Take time to read names and dates. Walk around and look at the different head stones, there is a gold star veteran which you will see the lettering in gold leaf, Civil War veterans with confederate head stones identified by pointed head stones because they didn’t want the Yankees sitting on their head stones. There are some mass graves with one head stone identifying the veterans like a whole Navy ship going down so the shipmates buried together. See more..

I live about an hour from this Cemetary. This place is huge, very old and very hilly. It is incredibly beautiful all year long. There are a lot of deer to be seen especially at dusk with their fawns. I am always happy I went for a walk here. There are many winding paths. You will truly feel that you are in the country. Very peaceful. Sadly no dogs allowed. Closes at five so don't get your car stuck in there when they close the gate. Park outside of it and walk in during off hours. This is the largest cemetary in Iowa. See more..

This is a good place for any age in the spring or summer. It usually isn't extremely crowded and if others are there everyone is very nice and friendly. I have taken some people here to check it out due to the fact no one seems to know it is there. See more..

The gravesite of Grant Wood can be found near the resting lion gravestone with “Wood” on it. Grant’s small gravestone is at the top of the three stone steps near his mother Hattie’s and his sister Nan Wood Graham’s graves. It is worth a stop if you are a Grant Wood fan. See more..
