  1. 4.5 Roseman Bridge (236 reviews)
    - Very pretty location

We were going to visit all 6 bridges in the area but after visiting two realised they all look pretty much the same. This one is in a really beautiful location and featured in the film Bridges of Madison County. The scenery is truly stunning. There’s a gift shop (we bought two bottles of the local wine at $15 each but it was very sweet and syrupy, more like cooking wine). Also sells the usual mugs, T-shirts etc. A portaloo which was very clean next to the gift shop. I’m actually a big fan of street art and graffiti but was upset to see people have written their names all over the inside of the bridge. There are two parts painted white but people have scrawled all over the inside on the natural wood and I couldn’t believe the gift shop was selling Sharpie marker pens for this purpose right at the till. Madness. See more..
  2. 5.0 High Trestle Trail Bridge (223 reviews)
    - Trestle Bridge at Sunset

    High Trestle Trail Bridge image
Built on an old railroad trestle, this paved bridge with steel sculpture and lighting is a sight to see. This shared path (walkers, cyclists, folks on rollerblades) accommodated everyone. We went across and back twice, took lots of pictures, and met friendly people. Sunset provides great lighting for photos. See more..
  3. 3.5 Davenport Skybridge (222 reviews)
    - Interesting But Limited Experience
    Bridges
    Davenport Skybridge image
Visiting the downtown Davenport area with a friend, so we decided to check out the Skybridge that was connected to the parking ramp where we parked our car. The entrances to the skybridge from the parking ramp were blocked off, but the ground floor entrances were open. The physical skybridge is about 50 feet above the ground and spans the highway below. Both sides of the skybridge are comprised of glass, so you get a nice view of the surrounding city. The southern end of the skybridge provides a view of the Mississippi river. Beyond the high vantage point for views, there wasn't anything else overly special to see or interesting to do. There are numerous light panels in the floor, which were off during the afternoon of our visit. Apparently, these lights can be different colors, so the skybridge can have different types of displays. See more..

    - BEAUTIFUL WELL MAINTAINED COVERED BRIDGE

    Hogback Covered Bridge image
I love covered bridges and there are several in the Winterset/Madison County area. Most of them were featured in the movie "The Bridges of Madison County." I was a little pressed for time and decided to visit the Hogback Covered Bridge because it was fairly close to my intended route and would not require me to go too far out of my way. It is a beautiful well maintained bridge that was built about 1884. It is about 100-feet long and is still at its original location. It was a quick photo stop for me and I spent probably less than 30-minutes on site. See more..

    - Bridge to the past

    Cutler-Donahoe Bridge image
First of all, it is the Cutler-DonahUe Bridge, according to the bridge. It is placed in a lovely location, in a beautiful park. There is a plaque nearby that tells its history. We enjoyed walking through it. It is sad to see a fire sprinkler system in it, but I suppose it is necessary to protect it. The bridge is in excellent shape. See more..
  7. 4.0 Cedar Bridge (52 reviews)
    - Great Replica
    Bridges
    Cedar Bridge image
Of all of the six bridges of Madison County, this is the only one you can actually drive through. That is because it is a replica of the original bridge. This modern day bridge is strong enough to support traffic and has a fire suppression system. This one is north of Winterset, Iowa. Most of the way there is paved, unlikely most of the bridges. It is beautiful. See more..

Keokuk, Iowa is a friendly town. We weren’t sure how to get to the bridge and had parked our motorcycles along the street in front of the water department, an employee helped us out and was so nice. The bridge is a great place to see the locks, the swing bridge, which is so cool and Keokuk Water Works, and Keokuk Power Pant. It’s close to the George Verity Paddle wheeler, a must see, and the old train depot is a site to see. See more..

It isn't worth going to far out of your way, but, if you are nearby, stop and see it. I used to have to cross it 2x every day for my paper route when I was a kid and I believe it is haunted. I delivered a morning paper from 10-13 yoa. I delivered from around 5am to 630am every day for those 3 years. The ghost wouldn't go on the bridge, just up to the bridge. Maybe because they fell and died? I don't know. I have traveled quite a bit and it is a unique well worth it stop. I still go to it at times and have taken my kids to it as we live out of state now. Just go during the day! :) See more..

took my mother on this for a day out so really wasn't expecting much. It gave us an afternoon out and was somewhat interesting on the trip away from the station, but the return trip was just another ride. The story was interesting and the food was average so I really wasn't disappointed but the hostess needed to chill out a little. Glad i did it once but i think that was enough See more..

The only thing I wish this bridge is missing is a safe walkway. But being that said, it was erected back around the 1930's. Which is what makes it so wonderful. My mothers family is from Lansing so I feel a connection to the town and river and the bridge. It is a great place to take pictures of the Mississippi River with the bridge in it. See more..

The road is closed so you can’t drive over the bridge, but you can park and walk down the little dirt road to go underneath. My daughter loved playing in the water and it was cool under the bridge even on a hot day. Great place to snap some family pictures as well. See more..
