4.5Iowa State University(336 reviews) - Fun, and don't have to be a student to visit. Educational sites
Had a lovely time touring the campus, even though I was not a student. There is so much to see, and where to start? Several buildings have either museums or objects on display. Of note were the Art Museum and the Aeronautics building with its airplanes on display. There is a bell tower where they play music and in some cases, a perky co-ed will kiss you. The day I visited there were hammocks out, and student Jousting on the green.See more..

4.5Kanesville Tabernacle(31 reviews) - Great place to learn great history Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues • Educational sites • Churches & Cathedrals
If you have questions about LDS history and ties to the Omaha area... you need to make a visit. Elder Hunsacker was great to explain and answer any question that we had. So very knowledgeable .... not only about the tabernacle, but LDS church questions. I highly recommend. See more..
We were there in the late fall, so it wasn't a good time to do any of the outdoor activities, but we enjoyed the museum. It was small but had a lot of good information. The most interesting to us was learning about the limestone kilns. It inspired us to go see them. This is a good place to visit if you're in the area. It's on the Grant Wood Scenic Byway.See more..
This is such a wonderful experience of fine dining at lunch with friends. A great addition to the many dining options in Ankeny, but something a little more special at noon. Unique and quality meals and desserts. The price can’t be beat. You won’t be disappointed !See more..
5.0Lost Island Nature Center(2 reviews) - A great learning center for children and adults Educational sites
The Lost Island Nature Center is located on the east shore of Lost Island Lake. The facility is surrounded by well preserved native foliage. The nature center itself is packed with fun nature-oriented learning activities for kids along with several live animals including turtles, fish, snakes, and bees. The wetland wildlife diorama is a hit with kids and adults. I was enthralled with all the environmental learning material from the region, state, and country. A great stop for family or the curious traveler. We did not stay overnight, but there was a campsite positioned near the Nature Center. A quick walk down their paved trail, you will find a boat launch, picnic areas, and a swimming beach. Would be a great place to visit for the weekend!See more..
