4.5Music Man Square(173 reviews) - Visit Mason City, for sure! Speciality Museums • Historic Walking Areas • Theaters
If you're in the area, you should stop here. Meredith Willson wrote the Music Man and this place is a tribute to him, you can even see his Emmy. They have replicated the Main Street from the movie. If you forget your trombone you can borrow one of the 76. It's located in historic downtown so plan to spend a day or two here. So much to see! Check to see if it's open as they operated with limited hours due to the pandemic.See more..
5.0Paramount theater(114 reviews) - A gem Friday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Theaters
I am a regular at Orchestra Iowa concerts here, and it serves beautifully for that task. It also does very well for other types of music and entertainment. The hall was completely refurbished after the 2008 floods, with loving attention to detail *and* to modern amenities. A very beautiful and comfortable hall.See more..
4.5The Englert Theater(71 reviews) - Wonderful old theater with great performances. Friday: 12:30 PM - 5:30 PM Spent 2-3 hours Theaters
100 years old in 2012, the Englert Theatre is one of the Midwest's premier performing arts centers, located in the heart of Iowa City. The Englert is home for musicians, comedians, and artists from around the world and just down the street.See more..
We watched the movie 1917 and sat in theater seven. The sound system is amazing and the seats would shake by the thunderous sounds of war. Seats are extremely comfortable and recline. The lobby area is beautiful.See more..

This one has reclining seats, a huge area with alcoholic and many nonalcoholic beverages, as well as MANY food selections! Very family friendly. Friendly staff. Clean. Lot parking. Prices are typical. Marcy’sDinerTantrumScale 5/5- NoScreamingKids. Food would be CyHawkApproved, if any made it home! I did notice quite a few people bringing blankets. I didn’t feel it was too cold, but maybe it’s just for the “home comfort” feel. See pics. I may start bringing a blanket as well!See more..
First time visiting, attended a sold out concert - no bad seats, seemed to us. Seats are a bit tight - old school auditorium style - but comfy padding. Staff were courteous and helpful.See more..
4.0Adler Theatre(49 reviews) - Great place to see a show Friday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Theaters
When I was a child, this was the RKO Orpheum. It was a beautiful movie palace. You would walk in and immediately smell the fresh popped popcorn! Popcorn was ten cents. A Coke was also ten cents. Fast forward 10 years and the RKO is now used as a concert venue. HUGE name rock bands coming through. Virtually every concert is sold out. The RKO is jam packed and the rock bands are blowing the roof off the joint! Every big name rock band is playing here! Fast forward to 2014 and the theater is now named the Adler. Mostly Broadway shows playing one show, one night here. Occasionally the Quad City Symphony Orchestra plays here. Yes, the Adler has mellowed out... QUESTION FOR THE DAVENPORT CITY FATHERS (AND MOTHERS): Why not give the Adler the marquee it deserves out front. In the RKO days, this venue had a spectacular marquee. Now the marquee would not even be suitable for a second run $1 movie theater. Please give this venue the respect it deserves. It needs a real marquee!See more..
5.0Okoboji Summer Theatre(41 reviews) - Love Supporting Stephens College Friday: 10:00 AM - 9:00 PM Theaters
We had a very nice evening at the Okoboji Summer Theater. Me, my husband and two daughters all enjoyed the performance of Clue. The theater is small and comfortable and the cast was wonderful. I wanted to support Stephens College and we are so glad we did! Add this to your list of things things to do when you are at the lake.See more..
I loved that theater. What a beautiful place to visit. The seating is excellent and you have a wonderful view of the stage from every seat in the house.See more..
This is a nice movie theater, its always clean and maintained well and the staff is friendly. There is one xd theater, and although they don't yet have any of the newer features like reclining seats I would still highly recommend it.See more..
We saw "the wedding singer" it was the absolute best musical I've ever seen. Enjoyed every minute of it. The seating however is alright but there isn't an incline. So therefore if you are sitting behind a taller person you can't see the stage very well. Our seats were front row and the stage is literally inches from you. Loved it. One other thing I wish was available was concessions, such as popcorn and drinks. I just think that'd complete the whole experience.See more..
3.5Crossroads Theatre(21 reviews) - UltraScreen is the way to go... Movie Theaters
Yes, it's a bit pricey, but for the most comfortable movie seats, ever- it's worth it for that special night. You get to select your reclining seat location. I suggest the middle of theater, but if you have to pick from very front or last row, pick last row- so you don't have to crane your neck. The sound system is over the top, bone shaking bass. Will definitely go back here for the release of big action movies. See more..
4.5Valle Drive-In(20 reviews) - Drive In Theater Brings Back Fond Memories Friday: 6:30 PM - 10:30 PM Spent < 1 hour Movie Theaters
I have now visited 2 of the 3 only Drive In theaters in the state of Iowa. New technology allows one to have perfect sound as you tune to your own FM station to hear the movie. New projector allows for new release movies to be viewed. Open Daily at 6:30 p.m. with double features and a fully stocked concession stand (free popcorn on Tues) coupled with an intermission between features a great way to enjoy an evening at the theater. In your car top down the way I attended while other families shared truck beds and lawn chairs.See more..
I went back and forth between a 3 or 4 star rating but decided to give Superior 71 the benefit of the doubt. Cons: It opened about 20 minutes later than their website stated, so we wasted 20 minutes sitting at the gate. We were then greeted by multiple postings of rules stated rather harshly and sarcastically. As an owner of multiple businesses myself, I'm not a big fan of that. Also, the screens are definitely the smallest we've ever seen at a drive-in. Lastly, the grounds were not in the best condition. Pros: It's a drive-in, and drive-ins are disappearing quickly. The concessions were good and reasonably priced. The bathrooms were very nice and well-maintained. We're big fans of drive-ins and have visited many of them across the country. This one certainly isn't the nicest or most welcoming drive-in, but it's hard for us to rate any drive-ins very low. Regardless of the cons, the Superior 71 is still definitely worth a visit. -The Power TrippersSee more..
CSPS is a music/concerts/arts venue run by the nonprofit Legion Arts. They bring in world class musicians from around the world to perform. I see a show there at least once a month and am always blown away by the level of talent they are able to bring in to Cedar Rapids. They've brought in PHOX, Pokey LaFarge, Parker Millsap and amazing top-notch musicians from other countries such as Ireland's Fullset and Zimbabwe's Mokoomba. Tickets are usually less than $20 and the acoustics in the building are incredible. Go to legionarts.org to find a list of their upcoming events. 4.0Movies 12(13 reviews) - Newly remodeled Movie Theaters
Recently remodeled and with reclining/heated seats, and plenty of room between the rows of seats that folks can actually walk between aisles(even those in the "weight challenged department") without moving or putting the seats down. Staff that actually cares....nice touches like mints at the end of the movie. This beats the chain cineplex at the other end of town hands down! Prices can't be beat either.See more..

The drive in at Blue grass used to be my favorite place when they first opened and wanted customers. That is the only reason I did give it a three. Lately thou the customer service has serverly dropped they don't care if you can't see the movie today I paid for a radio and it stopped working the last 15 minutes of the movie the most climatic part I asked for my money back for the radio since they didn't provide the service I paid for, they refused and laughed like it wasn't they're responsibility. The bathrooms are also discusting toilet paper all over and over flowing.. they have also seemed to have cut back on there serving sizes..See more..
4.561 Drive In Theatre(10 reviews) - Awesome family place to hang out Movie Theaters
Excited to see this place open again for the season. It's always a relaxed atmosphere and good time for the family. Imagine tailgating for a game, but instead for a movie. There is always something going on and people enjoying themselves. If you don't have a good time here, your probably either pretentious, or a fun hater. Order some Casey's Pizza, take a radio and some lawn chairs, and go watch a movie with the family.See more..

2.5Westfair Amphitheater(7 reviews) - The show was great, but venue management is a joke. Theaters
The music was tremendous. The Old 97’s, Steve Earle, and the Turnpike Troubadours were great. The weather was great. After that, things went downhill. This place has NO COMMUNICATION. Their FB page says “you can always send a message” which is a technically not a lie because you can “send” all the messages you want, but they’re all blocked or something because all messages get bounced back. They have an email address listed on their website, but once again, it doesn’t work. They NEVER answer the phone. I was able to get a response one time when I originally bought the tickets and their answer was snarky. Here are some pointers: 1) use an Uber. Parking is awful. 2) they don’t have enough beer vendors…think 20-30 minutes in line. 3) there are no seats and they don’t allow lawn chairs. 4) if you can catch a show somewhere else, I’d recommend that.See more..
