    - Awesome!

Dutch Creek Farm Animal Park image
This place is a must especially if you have young children! I traveled 1 hour and 20 minutes to come here and had never heard of it until recently. Also to note, the drive past all the Amish home, horse and buggies and small shops was so cool! We arrived around 11 or 12 and it wasn't too crowded. The man at the cabin taking the money was extremely nice and informative! Actually all of the people working the attraction was super nice and friendly. The price seems maybe expensive but it's definitely worth it. The amount of animals you get to see up close and feed is more than what I expected. The wagon ride is the best! They give everyone 1 free tub of food to begin with then you must pay $1 for each additional tub. You could definitely get through the wagon tour with 1 tub if used sparingly. Toddler friendly. Definitely worth the time! See more..
  5. 4.0 Traders Point Creamery (241 reviews)
    - Back to Farm style goodness
    Wednesday: 11:00 AM - 9:00 PM Farms
    Traders Point Creamery image
Recently I had the opportunity to attend a presentation by Sally Fallon at Traders Point and was taken back in time to my days on the family farm in South Dakota. Sally reminded me about fresh farm butchered meats, milk, wonderful cheese, fresh preserves and all that fresh good living. Traders Point store and surroundings aroused by senses to those sights and sounds. Cows are grazing in the fields, cheese making is in full operation to view and the store is packed with farm fresh goodness. The store had liver to uncured bacon to fresh milk, kiefer and so much more. If you want to up your eating game and add more farm products, this is the place to visit. Lunch and dinner are available--my wild salmon salad was delicious. Bring your children, explore the view, relish the quiet and explore Traders Point Creamery. A place I plan to visit more often! 7. 4.5 Fair Oaks Dairy Adventure (121 reviews)
    - Great place to visit
    Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Farms
    Fair Oaks Dairy Adventure image
It is hard to see it all in one day if you want to interact with the displays and take both bus tours (pigs and cows). During the winter, they are open 9-3 instead of 9-5. I found that I spent most of two winter days here in order to see it all. It is something that all ages can enjoy and the displays are top notch. They also do a very good job with the logistics of your visit. I would recommend getting the 1 year membership if you go since that is no more than the cost of two days and gives you some flexibility to stop in later since it is right on I65. They have suggested times for each of the sections and I found those to be fairly accurate for me. There is a beautiful new Fairfield hotel here as well as a restaurant and a cafe. While I ended up staying 30 miles away in Merrillville, you could easily just stay on site and avoid the extra driving if you were visiting two days in a row. See more..
  8. 4.5 Goat Milk Stuff (108 reviews)
    - Lots of critters and friendly people
Wednesday: Spent < 1 hour Speciality & Gift Shops • Farms
    Goat Milk Stuff image
We are pleased to welcome visitors back to Goat Milk Stuff! While the pandemic took its toll on our offerings, it also afforded us time to renovate the Farm Store for a whole new experience! Not to worry, you can still snuggle baby goats, tour the farm, and enjoy our luscious caramel treats. Oh, and don't forget the fantastic soaps that started it all! We began Goat Milk Stuff in 2008 out of a very simple desire - to share our natural goat milk soap with others. We don't use chemicals on our skin and we don't think you should have to either. The soap was so popular, PJ hired the entire family, and then some! Stop in and be encouraged, entertained and enthralled by all the goodness of dairy goats! See more..

We picked our own raspberries last year and went on a weekend they had a little festival with vendors selling all kinds of baked goods, fresh veggies, and arts & crafts. 14. 4.5 Wea Creek Orchard (32 reviews)
    - Hidden Gem
    Wednesday: Spent 1-2 hours Farms
    Wea Creek Orchard image
This orchard is a little jog off the main roads but it is well worth the trip. The orchard is not a far walk from the parking lot and they even have a tractor that will take you there. When we were there, they had about 4 varieties of apples to pick from and there were plenty of apples left to pick. The workers are beyond friendly and made us feel like family. I believe the u-pick apples were $1.75 a pound, so not cheap, but well worth it. They were also selling apples that were already picked for cheaper along with peaches, jams/jellys, and very good apple cider. See more..

If you go to Thistleberry Farm make sure to watch your kids close. There are abominations of nature there. My family and I saw a chicken trying to mate with a duck. Farms
    Johnson's Farm Produce image
Strawberries are currently ripe in the field so you can either pick them at Johnson's or buy them already picked. The picked ones for sale didn't look great but they turned out to be juicy and sweet. The store actually had a lot more potted plants and flowers than produce but it is early in the season. Marilyn's bakery is on the grounds and offers delicious coffee, donuts and cupcakes. Not inexpensive but the quality is good. See more..

  20. 5.0 Salomon Farm Park (16 reviews)
    - Awesome farmers market
    Farms
After all these years we finally made it up to Salomon Farm. The City of Fort Wayne has a little hidden gem that many people around here really don't know what it is. This is a working farm that is run by the parks department. They offer day camps, a reception hall that you can rent, and a weekly farmers market. Anyway, we went for the farmers market. This market was awesome. They have choices from veggies to fruits to honey to nick nacks. We took part in the local honey and we were so pleased. I have heard that the day camp is great for kids, but I can not comment on that as I do not know anyone who ahs sent their kids there. We did check out the rental barn. Pretty cool. A great place for a wedding reception or a birthday party. Our thanks to Sydney for the mini tour. See more..

    Spent 1-2 hours Farms
    Broken Wagon Bison image
Took a last minute road trip with a group of friends. A long time teacher, school administrator and volunteer in our group. From the minute we arrived an hour early for our tour, to saying goodbye for now, we were welcomed and encouraged to visit. Ruth, Bud and Wally are the kind of folks you wished lived next door to you. SO knowledgeable and passionate about Bison. We learned so much during our visit. The tour starts out with a video presentation and talk, Bud was a very interesting speaker, and took plenty of time to answer questions. The hay rack ride was an experience! The herd ran to meet the tractor....being in the midst of all that energy....and the size of these animals, you really cannot appreciate how amazing they are until you are up close. There is a cute little shop, I bought a wooden bowl and Bison stew meat to take home. I learned that if you want to encourage Bison farming, you should be eating Bison! Seriously, what a terrific day, you should go! See more..

Lyles Station Historic School & Museum image
My wife and I, my brothers-in-law and their wives, my son and his wife, and our four grandchildren visited the Lyles Station School and Museum in a Sunday afternoon in late July. We were greeted by the caretaker and president, and we were treated to an hour tour of the school and its museum. We learned about life in Indiana in the 1800s for a group of free African-Americans who founded the town of Lyles Station and have lived in it and farmed the area for nearly 200 years. If you like history and are curious about the lives of African-Americans in America, this is a wonderful place to visit. Our grandchildren are ages 1 to 7, and there attention ran out before the tour ended. Not to be missed!! See more..

  39. 3.0 Henslers Nursery (2 reviews)
    - Good Place for Kids
    Farms
There was no option for our visit being in December 2020. We brought our young grandchildren to cut down our tree. They really enjoyed the wagon ride out to the trees, the reindeer, the shop, the kettle corn, and all the little buildings. The only other reviewer from Illinois mentioned that people weren’t wearing masks—Indiana has never required masks outdoors. People were wearing them when they entered buildings. There was hand sanitizer available so there was no need to be wiping down handles of everything. And as far as tripping over things amongst the trees like vines tree stumps and weeds, well it’s a farm so that should have been expected. We will be likely be bringing our grandchildren back this year to get another tree. See more..

  44. 5.0 RDM Shrimp (1 review)
    - A Shrimp Farm in Rural Indiana? YES!
Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Farms
Not far off Interstate 65 between Chicago and Indianapolis is an amazing business that welcomes tourists and provides excellent insights into how farmers can diversify. This place offers tours of their shrimp farm (indoors), together with a fascinating presentation detailing how shrimp can be raised commercially. A side benefit is that shrimp are available for sale. Unlike the "ordinary" shrimp imported from the Far East and generally available, these shrimp are raised entirely without hormones and are earnestly sought by exclusive restaurants for their unique flavor and wholesomeness. The owners, who developed the shrimp raising techniques, are much in demand to train other would-be shrimp farmers. Tour includes an up-close visit to the tanks where the shrimp are raised. This is a tour not to be missed, and probably not duplicated elsewhere. See more..

    - Don't waste your time.
    Farms
My sister and I stopped at a rest area and saw the brochure for the lavender farm. We decided to check it out. We drove for what seemed like forever. When we finally arrived there was one small sign and we almost missed it. We drove in and stood there looking around in shock...there was no one around and no lavender to be had. Don't waste your time trying to find this place. We were so disappointed. The brochure was beautiful and the write up was so inviting ...to bad this so called lavender farm didn't resemble it in the least. See more..

Benton County Wind Farm Tours image
We thought that we would go on a science adventure to learn about the wind farms, especially since my two youngest grandkids pass the farms often on their way to their other grandparents. We did not call to make an appointment, but when we did call on our way towards Fowler, we spoke with Paul and Jenny who gave us a bit of information. We were not able to do the movie, but we found the kiosk that is near the center of Fowler and then we were able to find the blade that is on display. The blades are definitely bigger than they look. The kiosk had a lot of information about the wind farms. Among other things, we learned that Benton County has about 550 wind turbines. My grandson thought that it was a really good adventure. 47. 4.0 The Good Life Farm (1 review)
    - Friendly, fun, family run farm
    Farms
This is a small farm where you can pick your own pumpkins and buy a reasonably priced wrist band for the wagon rides, corn maze, playground and scavenger hunt. There is nothing fancy about this place, but it was just what we were looking for. There was a wide selection of pumpkins to be picked - you pay by weight. There is a snack bar and nice area to sit under cover. We didn’t do the scavenger hunt and the play area was for little kids, but we really enjoyed the wagon ride and maze. The wagon ride was about 15 mins and went around the fields. The maze was HUGE! much bigger than I was expecting. We got through, but with little kids it might be a bit much. There are no fancier aspects to the maze like some places, but that was fine. This is the families first year operating the farm and they were friendly and helpful. I expect they might add more attractions as the time goes on. Still sometimes it is nice to visit somewhere simple and support a local business- I wish them the best of luck. See more..
