  4. 4.5 Spring Mill State Park (384 reviews)
    - Best State Park around!
    Historic Sites • State Parks
    Spring Mill State Park image
We have come here over the course of 50 years and the charm has not worn off. The 1820 village with its grist mill is lovely with the babbling brook that runs through the grassy lawn. Come after Memorial Day when there are docents in the buildings. The water wheel is under reconstruction on the mill so you won’t see it operate this summer. But the boat cave tour is still available for $3 a person. What a bargain. The guide said next year the price is going up to $10 which is a shame for families. The Nature Center is nice and you can rent kayaks on the lake. We kept busy for two days. Don’t miss the free memorial to astronaut Gus Grissom at the entrance to the park. Very interesting movie and an actual space capsule. See more..

    Round Barn Museum image
When we visited in 2020, this attraction was called the "Fulton County Historical Society Museum" and the Round Barn was just one of several attractions. In addition to the Round Barn, there are multiple other buildings including the Polke House (from the 1830's, but restored to early 20th century appearance), a 1930's doctor's office and dentist's office, an early 20th century general store, a late 19th century railroad station, an old town jail, and several others. You can go into the office and ask a staff member to let you into these structures. The museum has a lot of old preserved documents (diplomas from the 1910's, etc.) and does a good job of documenting the history of furniture found inside the buildings. There is also a vast indoor museum about Fulton County's history, but I did not go inside due to COVID-19 concerns. Overall, for a county of just 20,000 people this museum punches well above its weight and is worth a stop. See more..
