    As lighthouse enthusiasts, we simply had to make the trip to Michigan City, Indiana, to see what is billed by some sources as Indiana's last working lighthouse. One does not readily associate Indiana with lighthouses, and this one was a stellar construct well worth the side-trip. The now-rare iron walkway design, above the pier, would alone merit special appreciation. We came at dusk, and were rewarded with a multicolored tableau of sky, cloud, light beacon, tower, iron walkway, pier, sea, and sand. The arctic wind off the lake meant business, but was not enough to deter us. As an added bonus, Michigan City had an annual Christmas light display at a nearby park, impressive for a municipality of this size. See more..
