Community Veterans Memorial is a 6.5 acre park featuring bronze and granite sculptures, and life-size monuments to depict the major military conflicts that shaped the 20th Century. The memorial imparts a reflective and provocative vision for peace. From the trenches of World War I through the Pacific beaches and European battles of World War II, the extreme weather and combat conditions of Korea, the rugged brutal fire fights of Vietnam, and the sandy sea of Desert Storm, the memorial pays the highest tribute to all veterans. A commemorative brick pathway leads visitors on their journey through history. Individuals and groups are invited to take self-guided tours in which several stations provide pre-recorded information about the defining wars of the 20th Century. 4.5Joe Palooka Statue(10 reviews) - The limestone Joe Palooka statue in beautiful downtown Oolitic, Indiana is a favorite selfie spot in the area. Monuments & Statues
The Joe Palooka statue is a beautiful example of Indiana Limestone carver’s work. It has been around for decades and has been relocated multiple times. Sadly the nearby Antique Mall / Museum has closed, but a new antique / curiosity store, AJ’s Storehouse has recently opened about a half block away. A lot of limestone from the Oolitic and Lawrence county area has been used in prominent buildings around the world, such as the Pentagon. If you are in the southern Indiana area, you should stop by, Oolitic is conveniently located about a city block off of state highway 37, about 20 miles south of Bloomington, IN, home of IU’s Hurryin’ Hoosiers.See more..
4.5Madonna Of The Trail(10 reviews) - Known Her My Entire Life Spent < 1 hour Monuments & Statues
She stands at the main entrance to Glen Miller Park and is easily seen as one drives by. There is a bench now where one can sit and watch her and contemplate the pioneer women she represents, or just watch the traffic go by on the main road through Richmond. I must say I miss the grayish shade she used to be. The bright white seems unnatural to me, but she is still a beauty. Built in 1928, she is one of twelve built along the Old National Trail.See more..
4.0Chief Menominee Monument(9 reviews) - Nice Stop on Our Way To Visit Our Parents Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
This is a place definitely off the beaten path. We had seen the monument on maps and the sign pointing to it off of US 31. WE thought why not investigate what this is about. To be honest it is a quiet green space in the middle of the country. It appears to be not well visited. WE spent about 15 minutes here and were satisfied with our visit. It actually took longer to get to then we stayed. Still worthy of a stop in our minds. The monument commemerate the Potawanami Trail of Death. They justified its positioning because they found an archelaogical site for this group 2.5 miles away on the Yellow River banks. It was interesting but does not delve into a lot of details. It has tweaked our interest however and have thoughts to do more research on this event. It is a thought provoking and nice quiet place to go for a free attraction.See more..

An incredible Catholic Church that's not only gorgeous, but with a great history with it! Talk to the docents - they have a wealth of info that you would pass by worth noting. The crucifix is Christ almost leaping off the cross, and the story of the design is one of these great historical tidbits you'll learn. Plenty to see and lean...you'll need about a half hour in the church.See more..

4.0Cairo Skywatch Tower(1 review) - Cold War History Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
There isn't much left of the Skywatch Tower, but it is very interesting if you research it. People would man towers like this and just look for Soviet planes before there was a national radar system. Besides the remains of the tower, there is a statue/monument and a historical marker. As a history buff, I found it fascinating.See more..
