Had so much fun exploring Indianapolis while walking the city walk through the canal. You are able to see so many parts of the city that can’t be seen from the streets. The Grotto is a location on campus that you shouldn’t pass up. It is a perfect place to pray and an ideal place for taking photos! I recommend going before or the day after the football games because they can become quite crowded. There were plenty of candles available for people to light up and there is a donation box. I highly recommend visiting!See more..

If you are a fan of the Jackson family, this is a great stop for a photo op. You can’t go inside and there isn’t a gift shop, and the huge monument that was one there is gone (the base remains), but it’s still cool to see where the family used to live. We made a stop about 9:30 on a Sunday morning and 7 other fans showed up while we were there to also take photos. The neighborhood isn’t as bad as other reviews are saying. The house is maybe a mile or so off the interstate so it can be a quick stop, you don’t have to go far out of your way. We were there ten minutes top.See more..
4.5Carmel Arts and Design District(163 reviews) - Perhaps the most interesting place to shop in Carmel Points of Interest & Landmarks
The work of real artists, not the typical array of candles and napkins found in many small gift stores . Some exceptional jewelry and wall hangings. A great place to go if you are looking for pieces to decorate your new apartment or home. Very pleasant staff.See more..
As lighthouse enthusiasts, we simply had to make the trip to Michigan City, Indiana, to see what is billed by some sources as Indiana's last working lighthouse. One does not readily associate Indiana with lighthouses, and this one was a stellar construct well worth the side-trip. The now-rare iron walkway design, above the pier, would alone merit special appreciation. We came at dusk, and were rewarded with a multicolored tableau of sky, cloud, light beacon, tower, iron walkway, pier, sea, and sand. The arctic wind off the lake meant business, but was not enough to deter us. As an added bonus, Michigan City had an annual Christmas light display at a nearby park, impressive for a municipality of this size.See more..

Courthouse Tree occupies a unique place among cities of the world by reason of trees that are growing from the roof of its courthouse tower. The presence of these trees on the courthouse tower is just as much a mystery to the citizens of Greensburg as to those who look upon it for the first time.See more..
Very much enjoyed this hedge labyrinth. Wanted to walk the entire thing, but it is quite narrow (like branches snagging your clothes narrow). Was grateful to be wearing a jean jacket to protect my arms from scrapes. It also appeared that there have been some new paths created over the years so it was sometimes difficult to determine where you were supposed to turn next. So we went as far as we could, and when we were dumped out near the center, just decided to exit that way, even though we walked nowhere near the entirety of the labyrinth. Hard to imagine it being very meditative with as difficult as it is to traverse and as many families who allow their children to run screaming through, damaging the hedges and creating new paths. But it was really beautiful and well worth a stop. See more..
I have been going here for my whole life. it is a wonderful park with nice hiking trails in the woods. There are some animals at the farm, an old cemetery in the woods and they host several fests every year. They even make maple syrup here. There is easy parking, restrooms and some old houses and barns to check out.See more..
4.5Muensterberg Plaza and Clock Tower(43 reviews) - What country is this? Wednesday: 12:00 PM - 9:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Observation Decks & Towers
Well, no question about Berne's roots being Swiss! This beautiful clock tower and plaza is a relatively new and welcome addition to the local community. At the corner of Main Street (SR 218) and US 27, it's a unique point of destination for tourists, plus a convenient gathering spot for locals. You can't miss it! There are a number of entertaining events and activities scheduled throughout the year, most prominent during the annual Swiss Days festival, in late July. The splash pad is summer fun for the kids, and needed restroom facilities were added a couple years ago. Worth a stop and visit, when you're in Berne, IN. 4.5Fort Ouiatenon(42 reviews) - Always a good time. Wednesday: 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
This was the 52nd annual Feast of the Hunters' Moon and we have been to a number of them......and hopefully we will get to go to many more. The feast takes place at Fort Quiatenon; this fort was established in the 1700s. Though the original building is long gone, the original site was rediscovered in the 1960s. The feast is a great way to learn about the history of this region. There are many re-in-actors in period clothing. A great variety of food to eat and items to buy. Also there are several stages and arenas for you to enjoy singers and various other acts. The next feast will be held October 3rd and 4th, 2020.See more..

4.0Gasthof Amish Village(40 reviews) - Great food and friendly staff. Points of Interest & Landmarks
We stopped in on a Sunday on our way back from French Lick. They had a huge buffet that had some breakfast items but was mainly great lunch fare. The bread and butter is simply amazing and we enjoyed everything we ate. We bought some bread, jam, and noodles to take home with us. The gift store was disappointing we thought we could by some real Amish crafts which there wasn't much. The flea market across the street was typical flea market stuff. They had another building with what we thought would have the real Amish stuff in it but it was closed.See more..

4.5Artists' Own(26 reviews) - Always something interesting Wednesday: 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Speciality & Gift Shops • Art Galleries • Points of Interest & Landmarks
Welcome to the Artists’ Own Gallery. Artists’ Own is an artist cooperative with members from the Lafayette, Indiana area. They work in a wide variety of mediums including painting, sculpture, jewelry, photography, furniture, pottery, fiber, glass, drawing and much more. Find the perfect artwork to compliment your home or office décor and shop for gifts throughout the year. About Artists’ Own In 1999, a group of local artists pursued a dream of creating a unique shop with the goal of bringing art together to share with Lafayette. It would be a venue where they could display their work and offer it for sale to the community. The work had to be of the highest quality and hand made by local artists. The result of this dream was the Artists’ Own Gallery. The gallery opened in 2000 on 3rd Street facing the Courthouse Square. The community embraced the opportunity to see and own great artwork. The success of the business led to relocating the gallery in 2002 to our present, larger locationSee more..

5.0World's Largest Ball of Paint(22 reviews) - Roadside Attraction Galore - So much fun! Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
I found this Roadside Attraction on a website and took a swing on our Roadtrip to Florida. And it was definitely worth it. The owner of this world record is Michael Camichael and he is a great guy and guide through the history of this Ball of Paint. Even if we were unannounced arriving he took us in and showed us everything and even let us paint the ball from red to green. That's what roadside attractions on USA roadtrips should be. Happy to did that. Pure and strong recommendation!See more..

The Mansfield Mill is an 1880's roller mill situated on Big Raccoon Creek. It is open for tours during the Mushroom Festival the last weekend in April, The Beans and Cornbread Day event the second weekend in Septepmber, and the 10 days of the Parke County Covered Bridge Festival that starts on the second Friday of October. The Mill sits on 2 acres of public land that offers fishing access to Big Raccoon Creek and a picnicking area above the dam. These outdoor activites are free and open to the public year-round. The mansfield Mill tells the story of the industrialization of grain milling in Indiana in the late 1800's and early 1900's. The Mansfield Mill operated as a commercial flour mill until the 1950's. It then continued operation as a feed grade mill until 1967 when it was sold at county auction. The Mill was gifted to the State of Indiana in the 1990's by the Hutchesin and Dalton families. Today Raccoon State Recreation Area manages the Mill. The Mill contains original 1880's milling equipment and operates off of a Rodney Hunt turbine that is over 120 years old! Other equipment includes an operating swing sifter, a working 1900's meadows mill, two functioning roll-stands and 8 operational bucket elevators. Payed group tours are offered in the winter and spring months only, through the Raccoon SRA Naturalist's office.See more..

3.5Fort Knox II(16 reviews) - Nice for a short visit, but not worth driving miles out of the way for Points of Interest & Landmarks
While visiting the historical attractions in Vincennes, this is a good place to add to your list. The fort, a state historic site, was originally built in 1803 and is about 3 miles north of Vincennes. The fort is no longer there, but wood markers show about where the fort stood. There are also information plaques about the fort and the history that occurred in this area. There are no facilities here, no visitor center or bathrooms. However, there are picnic tables and a small parking area. No fee was charged for the visit. Don't plan on staying here long, probably 15 minutes is enough. The entrance was well marked by a state historic sign. Be careful walking to the old fort area from the parking lot, there is lots of dog poop. A care taker lives onsite and has a dog.See more..
4.5Medora Covered Bridge(15 reviews) - A Must Stop Points of Interest & Landmarks • Bridges
Stop and see this bridge. We had a volunteer there tell us about the bridge. Very informative. Glad we stopped.See more..
Since the houses are now privately owned and a couple of them are undergoing renovations you can't get close to them. However, each has an information placard that provides the back story of each of these houses. Built for the Century of Progress World's Fair in Chicago in 1933, each of these houses were made of unique materials that were supposed to be cheap yet enduring. They were supposed to represent cutting edge design ideas and materials. Each of the placards describe how each was built, unique features, and the flaws in the design. This is definitely worth a stop.See more..
4.0Jug Rock(15 reviews) - Neat rock formation Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
It's barely noticeable from the road and there doesn't appear to be (any) parking, but it's worth the quick stop to pull over and take the short 45-second hike down to see the "highest free standing rock formation east of the Mississippi." Was worth the detour.See more..
4.0Historic Downtown Huntingburg(13 reviews) - Love the variety of shops! Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM, 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
We decided to visit a few days after Christmas. There were a lot of interesting shops to visit: clothing, antiques, cooking, flower/decorating, etc. We stopped at the bakery/restaurant for coffee, donuts, and a delicious breakfast meal. There was a bar and of course the restaurant Fat and Sassy was a must for lunch. I wish more old Main Streets were like this. See more..
I took my granddaughters to the courthouse just so they could take a look inside. I haven't been there in some time and was surprised to be greeted by a deputy when we went inside. He was very nice and stated I could not bring my phone onto the premises. So off we went to put it in the car and came back. My girls had some questions for the deputy and he was so nice and helpful. He even gave them both a Sheriffs badge. We walked the floors and one of the women in an office gave them a piece of candy. They had a great time looking at that old building and climbing the steps. We had a great time and they loved the visit.See more..

4.0Chief Menominee Monument(9 reviews) - Nice Stop on Our Way To Visit Our Parents Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
This is a place definitely off the beaten path. We had seen the monument on maps and the sign pointing to it off of US 31. WE thought why not investigate what this is about. To be honest it is a quiet green space in the middle of the country. It appears to be not well visited. WE spent about 15 minutes here and were satisfied with our visit. It actually took longer to get to then we stayed. Still worthy of a stop in our minds. The monument commemerate the Potawanami Trail of Death. They justified its positioning because they found an archelaogical site for this group 2.5 miles away on the Yellow River banks. It was interesting but does not delve into a lot of details. It has tweaked our interest however and have thoughts to do more research on this event. It is a thought provoking and nice quiet place to go for a free attraction.See more..
I personally love these kitschy attractions. This one did not disappoint. It is in Highland Park and the steer and the stump are in glassed in shelters. Which is good for them to stay free from damage, creates minor issues wiht viewing from glare and major dirty glass. The story of each is displayed and a really great touch. you can park right at them and there is a paved walkway to them. See more..

If you are a Catholic or are at the very least appreciative of Religious beauty, a serene and contemplative walk and a bit of Polish culture, this Carmelite Shrine is wonderful to visit. I have been here numerous times and have always enjoyed my visits. One suggestion: be sure to make one visit as an absolute when the grotto is open. It is not opened year round due to the cold weather. Otherwise, go for a mass, enjoy the Stations of the Cross and be happy!See more..
