5.0Allen County Public Library(409 reviews) - The perfect place for family research. Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM Libraries
I wish I could visit the genealogy department every month. Even in a new era where so much research can be done online, there is no substitute for a dedicated time for family research. The library’s collections is vast and covers the entire country, not just Indiana. It’s the second largest genealogy department in the country and well worth the trip!See more..

4.5Bartholomew County Library(32 reviews) - I M Pei's Gem of Architecture and Urban Design. Don't miss the sweeping interior spaces. Wednesday: 8:30 AM - 9:00 PM Libraries
By setting the library back from 5th Street, Pei created a beautiful urban plaza that showcases the Inn at Irwin Gardens to the east, the Tourist Information Office to the West, and Eliel Sarineen's iconic church to the south. PEI's elegant brick facade skillfully harmonizes the library with its brick-clad neighbors. The plaza is a fitting home for the Large Arch sculpture by Henry Moore. Be sure to walk inside to admire the interiors, including the beautiful staircase, and take advantage of the library's helpful Reference Staff (who gave us a useful map and guide of the city's notable buildings after we discovered the Tourist Center was closed).See more..
5.0Vigo County Public Library(27 reviews) - Wonderful place, so much offered for all ages! Spent 1-2 hours Libraries

One of Helmut Jahn’s early designs from 1977, the interior carpets, furniture and paints have been changed since its opening, but it retains the light filled, airy and welcoming atmosphere. Unlike most libraries, there are no windows to the outside so you aren’t distracted by passing vehicles. The interior courtyard lets you see outside to a peaceful garden, and you can even walk out there to read your book. It still has its flaws, the meeting rooms, private librarian offices and rest rooms break up the openness of the design. And the four large HVAC units located at each corner outside the library are ugly necessities. But if you are in Michigan City looking for a peaceful place to take a break, this library is paradise. The original design still shines.See more..

5.0William H. Willennar Genealogy Center(1 review) - Nice genealogy center Spent 2-3 hours Libraries The genealogy center is just across the street and one block over from the main branch of the Eckhart Library. It's a very nice looking building with parking along each side. There's a very nice sculpture as you walk in the front door. There’s a nice conference room on the right, and straight ahead and to the right are the restrooms. To the left is the genealogy center. The center is very nice room with long tables with electrical outlets, that lots of research can be spread out on or laptops plugged in to. There are also chairs for reading. There are lots of shelves filled with reference books. There are cabinets with maps and others that contain microfilm. There’s a smaller room in the back for viewing the microfilm and an area with computers for online research. The center is conveniently located close to the downtown area and the courthouse if original documents are needed. The center is open from 10-5 Tuesday, Thursday-Saturday and from 11-8 on Wednesday.See more..
