Hidden Gems Places To Visit in Mississippi, United States
- 5.0 Team Brodie Charters (96 reviews)
-REDFISH BONANZA
Saturday: 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM Fishing Charters & Tours
Conditions were horrible. Water was muddy. Tide was out and water vert shallow. Cold front moved in during the night. It was cloudy, cool and windy. Jonathan, my son, and I put on several layers of clothes, loaded up and went anyway. Total count on the redfish is an estimate, but it was easily, between 50 and 60. 16 were in the slot, so we were throwing back keepers by the end of the day, we also picked up a couple of flounder, a couple of sheepshead, a baby black drum. We ran out of shrimp at 1:00 and called it a day. Captain Brodie just knows how to find them. Even got me to smile for the picture. See more..

- 5.0 Tupelo Veteran's Museum (86 reviews)
-Me. Lute makes history come alive.
Military Museums • History Museums
The best part of the museum— aside from the amazing number of interesting artifacts— is Mr. Tony Lute. Friendly and courteous, Mr. Lute seems to know about everything in the museum, but he doesn’t overwhelm you with talk—- just makes himself available to answer any questions , tell an interesting story, or drop an amazing fact. We are senior citizens who took a 13 year old boy and 7 year old girl. Both of them enjoyed the museum so much, and, of course, we did. Everyone should visit! See more..

-This is an awesome bike trail!!!
Biking Trails • Hiking Trails
I just started riding in December. So I was concerned about 40 miles. So the first day we parked in Sumrall and rode to Prentiss wow i did 51 miles. It's not any big hills just a few slow inclines that you can feel when your tired. Beautiful farm land and the best was no traffic coming up behind you. You have to cross and few highways but its all posted so you can see them. Plenty of restrooms and rest stops and a few raindrops with shelters incase it rains. I didn't have a problem with the 51 miles the first day. Second day we rode from Hattiesburg to Sumrall and back around 30 miles. I do believe the easier route is from Prentiss to Hattiesburg. The path is well taken care of ...and if you need any parts etc for your bike go by and see the nice people at Hattiesburg bycycle center on 38th avenue. They were a big help to us. We are already looking at when we can go back. See more..

Your vehicle to your golf shoes. Hope to go back soon when the weather is a little more dry. They did have 8 holes on the front nine that were off the path. Sadly our GPS took 5 holes to reset so we had to stay on the path but it felt like the entire staff worked to fix it. One of my favorite bars as well. My 8 and 10 yr old sons loved this tour as much as we did! They expected to see a bunch of alligators, which didn’t happen, but they still said this was their favorite part of our 10-day trip to MS. They learned more in 2+ hrs than they would have reading half a dozen books. Our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, approachable, and patient. Several times she turned the boat back so we could get a closer look at something we missed. My husband and I appreciated the calm, relaxing environment and the gorgeous views, especially the amazing sunset! With COVID-19 going around, their tour times are more limited, so I definitely recommend calling a few days or a week before you intend to head out onto the water. See more..

- 5.0 Saint Rose de Lima Catholic Church (25 reviews)
-Beautiful RC Church with wonderful gospel singers
Spent < 1 hour Churches & Cathedrals
We attended mass there on Easter Sunday. There was an outside procession before mass led by the gospel singing choir. The walls at the front of the Church behind the altar are painted with a beautifully unique fresco. The mass was packed and every nook and cranny held someone. The mass and procession was almost an 11/2 hours long, but it just didn't seem it. When we visit Biloxi over a weekend, we drive to the Church for Sunday mass. We wouldn't miss it. (The Church is known primarily as being a Black Parish, the only one of it's kind I've ever come across. I'm sure it's one of the few, with a spirited old-time gospel choir) See more..

Captain Sonny is extremely attentive, well prepared, great at keeping the conversation going with the adults and kids…best of all he knows where the fish are! Great trip…definitely going back again. - 5.0 McCoy's River and Marsh Tours (23 reviews)
-Riding on the River
Boat Tours
What a thoroughly enjoyable 2+ hours on the river with Benny! My husband and I started our 48 hours off from work with this delightful journey into nature. The flat bottomed boat provided a shaded top, water proof cushions and the weather was perfect. Benny was a GREAT guide and resource of ALL things river. We saw all manner of birds and their nests, plant life along the banks, beautiful scenery and yes, an alligator - as well as a peep at an alligator's nest. He is a FOUNTAIN of knowledge - botanical, biological, local, historical, literature, art and then some - he does not want for knowledge. All delivered with self effacing humor and wonder. All in all, I would have turned around, handed Benny more money and gone right back out with him! GO! You will not be disappointed. Relax and enjoy the bayou. It was the highlight of our 48 hours in Mississippi. See more..

They brought us through Greenwood, Clarksdale and finally Memphis where we visited both blues history and civil rights sites and museums. They personalized the tour based on our interest in both civil rights and blue. - 4.5 Tennessee Williams Welcome Center (97 reviews)
-Crown Jewel of Downtown Columbus
Saturday: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM Visitor Centers
There is no better way to spend an hour or so of your visit to Columbus at this location. The Tennessee Williams House is also the Columbus City Visitor's Center. Stop by and see the house guide. Oh what a rare treat! On this visit, the Center's director played the old 1840's foot pump pipe organ for us. She will knock you out. No person knows more about the city of Columbus and especially the Williams house, than her. Most the furniture are period pieces, however many of the room light fixtures are original to the house and were converted from oil lamps. The various lamp shades are of particular interest. This stop is absolutely worth every moment of your time. See more..
- 4.5 Medgar Evers Home (96 reviews)
-Eye-opening NPS visit
Historic Sites
It is absolutely eye-opening to drive by this home. For now, it's definitely not a developed NPS site, though it should be. For someone like myself who did not grow up or ever live in a community like this, admittedly driving through is something of a shock. Honestly, I'm not sure it's the safest neighborhood to visit. But I think it's worth seeing this home just as much as it is seeing some of the historical houses in the northeast and elsewhere within the NPS system. America is an amazingly diverse place, so it would be a loss not to see (and later read/learn) about Medgar and Myrlie Evers. Provides some perspective at the least. See more..

- 4.5 Jim Henson Exhibit (84 reviews)
-Nice road trip stop!
Saturday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Speciality Museums • History Museums
This is a great stop to stretch your legs and learn about native son Jim Henson - the genius behind Kermit The Frog and The Muppets. Ignore the snarky comments from some of the haters - I really enjoyed my quick visit. Let the curator share some stories about Henson and how Kermit came to be. There's a lot of Kermit memorabilia and an original Kermit The Frog "Muppet" donated from The Henson family. Be sure to venture down the street and see the Rainbow Connection Bridge, with the historic roadside marker. Henson played in this creek as a kid, along with childhood friend, Kermit - who most believe is the namesake for "the frog." See more..

The State of Mississippi Visitors Center in Vicksburg is a safe and great place to visit. Traveling from Texas I got to the center right after they closed for the evening.
