5.0St. Mary Basilica(475 reviews) - Gorgeous stain glass windows--beautiful like a European cathedral Saturday: 8:00 AM - 4:15 PM Spent < 1 hour Churches & Cathedrals
Recognized as an architectural masterpiece among Catholic churches in the south, it is the spiritual home of a vibrant St. Mary Catholic community today. The construction of this place of worship was begun in 1842 as the Cathedral of the newly established Diocese of Natchez. The St. Mary congregation takes pride in the basilica's colorful and prayerful setting, and welcomes visitors from near and distant places. The city of Natchez, on the Mississippi River and the birthplace of Mississippi, is a tourist destination because of its historic ante-bellum homes. St. Mary Basilica, also ante-bellum, is the city's central landmark.See more..

5.0Saint Rose de Lima Catholic Church(25 reviews) - Beautiful RC Church with wonderful gospel singers Spent < 1 hour Churches & Cathedrals
We attended mass there on Easter Sunday. There was an outside procession before mass led by the gospel singing choir. The walls at the front of the Church behind the altar are painted with a beautifully unique fresco. The mass was packed and every nook and cranny held someone. The mass and procession was almost an 11/2 hours long, but it just didn't seem it. When we visit Biloxi over a weekend, we drive to the Church for Sunday mass. We wouldn't miss it. (The Church is known primarily as being a Black Parish, the only one of it's kind I've ever come across. I'm sure it's one of the few, with a spirited old-time gospel choir)See more..
4.5The Church of the Holy Trinity(22 reviews) - Amazing Stained Glass Windows. Saturday: Spent < 1 hour Churches & Cathedrals
We loved our visit here. The church may not be the most beautiful from the outside, being built of red brick, but inside it is just stunning, with 34 stained glass windows, 6 of them Tiffany style, of only 12 such windows in the whole state of Mississippi. The ceiling is reminiscent of Noah’s Ark, with a roof of Belgian slate. A couple of guides were on hand to give us an introductory talk and to answer any questions. Definitely worth a visit.See more..
After the hurricane the Church needed a great deal of work. Finally the interior is finished. The paint job is wonderful and it really shines. We love all the services there particularly the Tuesday devotion to Our Lady of Perpetual Help and the Wednesday evening Traditional Latin Mass.See more..
We deviated off the Natchez Trace Parkway to visit the Windsor Ruins and on our way back came through historic Port Gibson. An amazing community, probably one of the most historic in the nation and the site of a Civil War battle. We wish we could have gone in, but like other reviews, it was all locked up.See more..
The cathedral is the "Bishops" cathedral, meaning it is where the Catholic Bishop for the Diocese presides during holy days of obligation and for some of the regular services. As such, they are a little more "formal" in their services.. with a wonderful organ and cantors during the weekend services. The members are diverse, with a separate hispanic service on Sundays as well. The Cathedral itself is amazing inside. While not as grand as you will see in major eastern cities, for Jackson, it it truly something to visit.See more..

Bethel Presbyterian Church opened in 1828, survived the Civil War, was rebuilt after virtually being destroyed by a tornado in 1943 and remains a Mississippi landmark. Located on Mississippi Route 552, one mile north of antebellum Canemount Plantation and three miles south of historic Windsor Ruins, at Bethel Cross Roads, not far from Alcorn State University in Lorman, Bethel was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. During the antebellum era, Bethel served plantations in the area, students of Oakland College (now Alcorn State University), the once thriving community of Rodney (now a ghost town) and featured a slave gallery to accommodate one and all. Today, Bethel is a historical showpiece, lovingly preserved by members of the First Presbyterian Church in nearby Port Gibson.See more..

4.0Shrine of Our Lady of Hope(1 review) - It is great. There are so few places like this and nothing but great people there. Churches & Cathedrals
There have been a few retreats here since the former facility (St Mary of the Pines) was sold to Our Lady of Hope in March 2021. The campus is over 150 years old. For much of that time the former St Mary of the Pines, now Our Lady of Hope, was a Catholic girls boarding school. Being both 90 miles from Jackson, MS and Baton Rouge, LA one of the few ways to get there was by train. Students would walk from the now closed train station in Chatawa to the school. However, being so far from many urban areas artists did stop at Chatawa to use the stage or organize entertainment. In fact just 3 weeks after the attack Pearl Harbor the actress Maureen O'Hara was married to man from McComb, MS who had been her dialog coach on the movie The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The cemetery across the street from Our Lady of Hope has graves dating to the mid to late 1800s. Many of the School Sisters of Notre Dame are buried in the cemetery. Due to the age of the cemetery the headstones for the sisters vary from simple wooden crosses, to welded metal crosses, to the more modern simple granite ones. Our Lady of Hope is now renovating the property. They presently have room for 170 people, but they are expanding that to 250. OLOH also has its own cafeteria. They are clearing some of the brush, repairing and expanding the trails, not to mention building a new chapel with the 12 Apostles lining the walk leading to the chapel. The only real noise are from the trains that pass by. It is so far from I-55 and the thick forests really deaden any noise from the Interstate miles away. The two nearby towns are small (Osyka about 4 miles south, Magnolia 9 miles north) and the nearest Walmart is in McComb, MS about 20 miles to the north. So if you really want to retreat the fact The Shrine of Our Lady of Hope is about 90 miles from the hustle and bustle. You should put them number 1 on your list.See more..
