This was the most interesting, best laid out, interactive museum we’ve visited on our trip. A long journey of discovery about the Mississippi, the vessels that have sailed upon it, controlling the flood challenges, disasters along the way, and all those organisations involved in keeping it alive and well. There’s a small aquarium and an original steamboat, the M/V Mississippi IV, that you can visit, kitted out just how it would have been back in the day. That’s worth the best part of an hour by itself. An amazing place, highly recommended.See more..

This is a great stop to stretch your legs and learn about native son Jim Henson - the genius behind Kermit The Frog and The Muppets. Ignore the snarky comments from some of the haters - I really enjoyed my quick visit. Let the curator share some stories about Henson and how Kermit came to be. There's a lot of Kermit memorabilia and an original Kermit The Frog "Muppet" donated from The Henson family. Be sure to venture down the street and see the Rainbow Connection Bridge, with the historic roadside marker. 4.5McComb Railroad Museum(32 reviews) - Great Museum to visit for Adults and Children Speciality Museums
My Father worked with Illinois Central Railroad in McComb, MS and retired there. The museum has a picture that was made in 1936 on a locomotive with the men who worked there and my Father was in the picture. Has a train there that you can go into to see what it looked like back in the 1950's and 60'. As a little girl I rode the train to New Orleans. Brings back a lot of memories. This is a steam driven train. The seats were wooden and when you were going South you turned the back of the seat where you were facing South and when you were going North you would turn it were you were facing North. .I traveled on train starting in 1944. This train is no longer running.See more..

4.01927 Flood Museum(23 reviews) - Small, but well worth visiting Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums
Exhibited in the oldest structure in Downtown Greenville, this museum presents the history of one of the greatest natural disasters this country has ever known. On Thursday, April 21, 1927, at 7:45 a.m., at 7:45 A.M., the levee at Stops Landing, 8 miles north of Greenville, broke due to the pressure from the swollen Mississippi River and created the greatest single crevasse ever to occur anywhere on the river. View actual flood artifacts and photographs illustrating the flood’s impact on life and death during the four months Greenville and the Mississippi Delta were inundated. The 12-minute documentary film superbly illustrates the Great Flood of ’27 and the struggle of man against nature.See more..
My husband and I enjoyed visiting this museum. The Museum Director greeted us warmly and was very welcoming. The young lady working at the front desk was friendly. The museum does not charge admission so that it is accessible to all. They used to charge admission for the special exhibits but no longer do that. We enjoyed seeing the very detailed ink drawings from an Italian artist in the 18th century. The scientific instruments were very interesting. There was a good collection of ancient Roman artifacts also. This small museum is well worth a visit!See more..

I had never heard of a pocket museum before visiting this artistic alley in downtown Hattiesburg. Very creative of what this small city did. The displays in the pocket museum change every month. 5.0The Apron Museum(9 reviews) - Americana, American History, and Beautiful, Funny Things all in One Place Speciality Museums
The Apron Museum has historic aprons on display from the Civil War and kitschy ones from the 50s. There's a culture about aprons - the ones you wore for work and the ones you changed into to look pretty but represent the work that as done. I had no idea. There are hundreds on display, more crushed together for a scavenger hunt on racks, and new ones for sale made in the design of the vintage. The best part was hearing the stories from the owner. She has a passion for aprons and it made me passionate about this everyday item, too.See more..

4.0Mount Locust(6 reviews) - Good place to stop and stretch your legs, learn some history Speciality Museums
We drove part of the Natchez Trace one rainy, miserable weekend. Mount Locust was probably the highlight of the trip. Mount Locust is a preserved roadside inn from the late 1700s. There are a few displays along the path to the house that provide information about life during that time. The guy in the gift shop couldn't sell me anything because of covid restrictions, but he was very knowledgeable and enthusiastically gave me information about the house and the area. I am looking forward to visiting again during better weather.See more..

Loved this! I read in the reviews to call the number and they would schedule someone. I called earlier in the week and spoke with Ms Ann and she told me that Ms Wilson was great with the tours. She works on Fri and Mon, so I scheduled for myself and my 5 year old grandson to go today. I was awesome. She made it interesting for him. He enjoyed it. He even got dippin dots for being so good after the tour!!! He was excited because he had never had any. He loved the cotton candy flavor. They also suggested for us to visit several other places to see in town. We went and looked at those places. He had a lot of fun. They suggested the Petrified Forest, so we are going there tomorrow!!! Thanks Ms Ann and Ms Wilson for a very enjoyable and learning afternoon!See more..
