When people mention Yandangshan (Yandang mountains), they usually refers to North Yandangshan, where the popular and AAAAA scenic areas are located. You'll need to stay 3 nights, having 2 whole days to explore the scenery. The most popular scenic areas are 2 Ling's (Lingfeng, Lingyan) and 1 Dragon (Big Dragon Pond Waterfall), so check those 3 places out first, then explore the others. There are plenty of photos already here to give you an idea what to see. Be prepared that Yangdangshan is very much authentic Chinese - if your diet is western food, you're in the wrong place. I missed my coffee and ham & egg breakfast so bad when I was there, the hotel breakfast is nothing compared to McDonald's. I went here with my girlfriend at night and it was a relaxing spot that made for a good date night. The island wasn't very busy which was a bonus. Basically, there are 3 sections to the island....a park/pond area, an amusement park (each ride charges individually, around 20/25 rmb each), and a water park (150 rmb entrance fee). There are also some restaurants and a hotel at the end. An easy way to access the island is to take the ferry located on JiangBin Road, which is included in the 25 rmb entrance fee. A wonderful day. Try to do the walk up the steps rather than the longer but flatter path. Tiring but wonderful scenery once you get to the top, which should take 45 minutes including a breather half way up. For me this was easily the best attraction in Shaoxing.See more..

One of the best natural places I could reach from Shanghai. The area is quite large with more gates to enter and there are various trails for hiking. As any other such place in china, the trails ground is manmade. But these are somehow more naturale, not just with thousands of concrete stairs. THese stairs are directly cut in the rock so it looks good and you can reach places that would be normally achieved only with ropes. The views are stunning, so big rocks. The streams are clean and refreshing, with fish in it. Tianmushan is nice, most famous but other places like Huxiao or Water Curtain cave are also worth for hiking. We visited the place when many tourists were gone due to Covid19, so that made the area even better! See more..

The Taihu Lake is the third largest freshwater lake in China with a surface area of about 2,338 square km. The lake is just like a bright pearl set in the Yangtze River delta and looks more like an ocean than a lake. More than 48 islets make up a beautiful scenic spot The most notable among these islets is the Turtle head peninsula. You feel that you are looking at a giant turtle in water. The area is full of flowers and trees. Different architectural additions to the natural landscape makes it captivating. The entrance ticket costs 105 RMB. You can use an electric car to convey you to the wharf at a charge of 15 RMB or walk down some distance and catch a bus which is free. Once at the wharf you can find restaurants and shopping areas. There are several double decker ferries capable of seating 200 passengers to transport you to the Turtle Head Islet. The cost of the ferry is included in the entry ticket. It takes about 20 minutes for the journey. The water is green but does not seem to be very clean and surprisingly there are no birds. However the place is very serene and you can spend about 4 hours going through the place. There is a match maker temple in the island. A giant lock is erected depicting love and affection between a couple. Thousands of locks can be seen hanging on the chains as people locks them on the chains wishing a happy match. However check out the timings of the last ferry from the island, else you could be left stranded on the island. There are several scenic spots in the vicinity. There is also a 377 ft tall Ferris wheel in the nearby town that takes 18 minutes to complete one revolution. You can have a great view of the lake and the adjoining scenery.See more..
I have been living locally in this area for 3 years and after my recent visit I cannot believe I did not go here before. It truly provides some of the most beautiful mountain scenery that can be seen anywhere in the world. If this area was found in Europe it would be world famous. The entrance fee, steep at 125rmb is worth every penny once you get up into the mountain peaks and look down on the clouds from the tops and it is possible to spend a whole day here. I have stayed here many times over the last 10 years. It was built for tourists, mostly Chinese nationals, who come to the area to enjoy the mountains, lakes, streams and quiet. Over the years a major highway has been built across the little river from the resort so it is not nearly as quiet as in 2004. It still has a beautiful garden area and the rooms have always been clean but the beds are typical of China and are extremely hard by western standards. Yaoxi is a very nice area with fresh air, nice trails, and clean water. There is an excellent waterfall (20 minute hike from start) with a pagoda nearby good for camping under. The waterfall's pool is good for swimming and has parts that are quite deep for diving. There are also many trails to get some exercise and enjoy the views. It's part of the DaLouShan trail network, so you can continue your hike if you want to the top of DaLou Mountain. Take the No. 6 bus to the end, followed by a 5rmb/pp minibus ride to the trailhead if you want to get there for cheap. Otherwise, taxi shouldn't cost more than 80 rmb from the city. There are also many restaurants at the beginning of the trail if you want to grab a bite to eat before heading up. Will definitely be going here again!See more..

We went on a fine spring Sunday in 2006. The ride up was scenic, and it was Grave Sweeping Day so families were out visiting the roadside graves, setting off fireworks to drive away evil spirits and protect the ancestors. The air was remarkably fresh and pure. Within the forest areas it was peaceful and green. There is a great deal of hiking, so wear good shoes for this. You can take a seat near a small lake and enjoy the view. The entrance to Double Dragon Cave feels quite daring, though it is safe (just claustrophobic); you lie down in a shallow boat and get pulled through a water passage under a rock ledge. Inside the cave there are colored lights to illuminate the rock formations. Overall I would very much recommend this visit.See more..

I made a day trip from Hangzhou by taking the earliest train out from Hangzhou to Lishu. From Lishui, there is an express bus that takes you directly right at the Xiandu Scenic Area Tourist Information Center where you can purchase the entrance ticket for RMB 110. The ticket is valid for 2 days in the Xiandu Scenic Area with complimentary bus services around the scenic areas. There are 5 scenic spots: Dinghu Peak, Mount Zhutan, Mini Red Cliff, Niweng Cave & Xiandu Taoist Temple. If you are short of time, then the first 3 are the most beautiful & must go. I managed to go all 5 areas as the free shuttle bus are comes by every 10min. Dinghu Peak is very pretty with the solitary stalagmite standing majestically on its own. From there you can walk to a nice looking Yellow Emperor Temple. Then take the cable car up to the top of Mount Buxv where there is a panoramic view of Dinghu Peak and the meandering Lianxi river. Mount Zhutan is another must go as it’s so pretty. It is a place where you can take picturesque photos of the Immortal Causeway with reflection of Dinghu Peak on the river. I ended my tour by walking around Mini Red Cliff where the timing was just nice to capture gorgeous sunset over the river. I definitely recommend this place for a visit.See more..

This area makes a good outing especially during the cooler months. It seems to be off the list of the usual tourist spots, for some reason. A few friends and I biked here from Wenzhou (return trip is 120km) and really enjoyed it. The views are great and it's not too crowded. We stayed at a guest house in a small village near the end of the scenic area in the mountains. There are many of these types of places, where you can get a home cooked meal and a room for cheap. Next time I visit Zeya, I plan to bike the other side of the looped road and do the white water rafting.See more..

A refreshing place to be and see nature at its best. The place is 8hrs drive from Shanghai in Dapanshan mountains. Not much public transport was around so be careful to have your own drive. The best is to go in a group. Let me assure you its a beautiful place and worth visiting. The place is a canyon with well designed walk way making the place safe and fun to go. You can see waterfalls, 18 potholes of water with each having a story written on the placards placed around the park. The water is clear and greenish and have ropeways to go across the canyon. My travel in China has been usually marred by hoard of crowd bumping into each other but this place was quiet and real fun to go.See more..

We ended visiting the Forest Oxygen Bar as the ferries to the islands were on an extremely limited schedule on Chinese New Year's eve. Ignore the gussied up name. it’s basically just a pleasant circle route hike up a small mountain – the ‘oxygen bar’ just being the forest around you. Depending on your perspective, it’s either a novel or eye-rolling attempt at marketing. It's a pretty pleasant hike though taking us about two hours at a leisurely pace. The hike itself is largely not difficult though those with accessibility issues will have some problems as there are a lot of stairs (some quite steep) and there’s an extended ladder section. The pathways are good and the guardrails on the cliffy sections are secure though, you’ll just want to mind your step along the way. And DO NOT do the train in reverse, it'll be a PITA. The only thing that was a problem was trying to get back to Qiandaohu Town. We took a Didi out there but basically got stranded coming back as there doesn’t seem to be any public transportation and there were no Didi taxis around as its at least a half hour away from town. We had to bum a ride from a local worker to the nearest bus station. Besides that though, we had a refreshing time at the ‘bar’. Cost is 60RMB but half price if you have the train ticket (or proof) that brought you to Qiandaohu.See more..
