  2. 4.5 National Tea Museum (212 reviews)
    - Fantastic Museum About Tea
Saturday: 8:30 AM - 4:15 PM Speciality Museums
    National Tea Museum image
Entrance to this museum is free and it is very informative. Explains the history and changes to tea in China over the centuries and why certain methods are favoured today. Has lots of cool and well preserved artifacts without overdoing it as many other museums tend to do. We had difficulties at first entering because we needed to prove our health codes and travel history but after that it was a very pleasant visit. The Longjing Tea Fields are also nearby and worth a quick trip for. We meant to try tea in this area but we weren't sure which shop to go into! See more..

    - Modern architecture built from ancient material
Saturday: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM Speciality Museums
    Ningbo Museum image
Most recent Chinese architectures are designed by Western architects using shinning and sleek material. This museum is build by discarded tiles, bricks, and enameled pieces designed by native Chinese Architect Wang Shu whom won Pritzker Architecture Prize 2012 for it. It reflect the Chinese spirit of frugality and sustainability and its aesthetic are enhanced by these virtue. The collection is heavy on the sea route of Chinese Silk Route, and the top floor of old Ningbo lifestyle are great for children. A important modern architecture accomplishment to see. Joyce Sin. 4. 4.5 China National Silk Museum (91 reviews)
    - Amazing
Saturday: 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Speciality Museums
    China National Silk Museum image
Last year I had the privilege of being able to spend a few hours at the National Silk Museum in Hangzhou. The museum was built especially to illustrate China's great heritage of silk textiles. The interactive exhibitions explain the life of the silk worm and the making of the cloth. However the most amazing articles which were on display were silk textiles around 2000 years old. These fabrics still retained the colour and clearly seen designs of the weaving demonstrating the advanced technology the early Chinese had obtained. Looms and spinning wheels showed the equipment these beautiful were made on. These are amazing in themselves. It is a beautiful museum which is well worth a visit. Allow some time to absorb the exhibits See more..

  21. 3.5 Longquan Museum (2 reviews)
    - Longquan Sword Museum
    Speciality Museums
This is the "old" museum, or more accurately, the first museum to be built in Longquan. In the past it was both Celedon and Swords, however after the completion of the "New" Celedon Museum this one has now been totally devoted to swords. To get there, you start to head up the road to get to the park on top of the hill and it's through a large metal gate on your right, when you get to the first sharp left on the main road. There is no fee to go in. It has the history of swords in Longquan, how to make swords (past and present), and a selection of ancient and recently made swords from local swordsmiths. It was enjoyable, but no dogs allowed. The Bao had to stay outside. See more..

  24. 3.5 Tongxiang Museum (2 reviews)
    - Interesting, free, typically nonchalant Chinese!
Saturday: 7:55 AM - 4:33 PM Speciality Museums
    Tongxiang Museum image
On the face of it a typically decrepit small-town museum. But it contains an amazing collection of Neolithic jade objects and some later pottery but little else. Some English explanation and labels. There's nothing else to do in Tongxiang, but this is well worth a half-hour if you find yourself there. I'm always surprised in China that so many objects of such age and such quality turn up in the most unlikely of places and they make no fuss about it. See more..

  26. 3.0 Haining Museum (2 reviews)
    - Exposition of old Haining culture
Saturday: 7:55 AM - 4:33 PM Speciality Museums
    Haining Museum image
Haining museum is located in modern building, from outside looks pretty big and so we were afraid we will not have enough time for visit because we arrived just 1.5 hours before closing. But actually inside is not so much to see. First floor is dedicated to Japanese aggression in China before and during World War 2. Unfortunately, everything is in Chinese only on this floor so we just viewed a pictures. On the 2nd floor is presentation of "Lantern culture": there are many beautiful lanterns in different size, colour and shapes. Underground floor was the best. There is exposition of pottery, jade and crystal jewellery and ceramics from neolithic age until the last dynasty of China which were found in or around Haining. Some religious objects were excavated from underground of Zhibiao Pagoda which stands on DongShan (Eastern hill) of Haining. See more..

  29. 4.0 Guohua Abacus Museum (1 review)
    - Something different.

    Guohua Abacus Museum image
My late father-in-law was an expert with the abacus so when my wife suggested we take him to see the Abacus Museum while we were living in Linhai I quickly agreed but had reservations. How interesting could an abacus museum be? And wasn't I wrong. It's a fascinating place. The owner used to work in an abacus factory and began collecting old and unusual versions of this ancient calculator. The museum has an abacus used by China's great statesman, Zhou En Lai, a very old porcelain one dug up while excavating foundations for a new sky-scraper in Shanghai, and others ranging from the very small to the biggest functioning abacus in the world. There are some awesome examples of old Chinese craftsmanship, interesting historical notes, and even a round abacus or two. Well worth a visit. See more..
  30. 5.0 China Button Museum (1 review)
    - Ancient Buttons
    Saturday: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Spent < 1 hour Speciality Museums
    China Button Museum image
We took a day tour from Shanghai to Xitang Water Town and the Button Museum was one of the museums included in our admission. The museum contains more than a thousand buttons from different eras. You could tell which ones were made for the wealthy, just by the material (some jade) they were made from. There were also belt hooks and buckles, as well as machinery that was used when buttons were made by hand, and not plastic like today. Signage for the machines is not in English, but you can figure out how the machines were used. See more..
