Would recommend to anyone who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of Chinese cities for a short while. The TianFeng Tower lies at the back entrance to the ChengHuang Temple. Cross a small alley and you will see the ticket office (5元 for entrance). The tower is surrounded by a small garden scattered with a few trees and benches. There are several narrow staircases to the top, they seem to be narrower the higher you get. The top floor is pretty small and the balcony has been sealed off. The view is nothing spectacular but if your new in the area take a look around and get your bearings. The roofs of the nearby buildings are all very traditional and look nice from above. Getting to the tower is easy, its in the centre of Ningbo. Get a bus to KaiMing Jie (开明街) or XianXue Jie (县学街) then head towards the Chenghuan Temple (across the road from MacDonalds). The tower is next to the temple. See more..

Ningbo Qita Si, or Seven Pagodas Temple is one of the most peaceful places I've been to. It is a real Buddhist temple with nothing commercial (just a nominal charge for entrance ticket), not like in main cities in China. Tranquil atmosphere and real Buddhist monks here and there. If you want to take a rest from the crowded city, the Seven Pagodas Temple is one of the best places to visit in Ningbo. Next to the temple you can find shops selling Buddhist's attributes. If you want to find a quiet place to rest, Moganshan is one of your choice. It is famous place to avoid hot summer, there are many villas around the whole mountain, which are connected with many famous persons in Chinese history of last century. One can take train or bus from Hangzhou to Deqing county, then transfer taxi to Mountain. Although the mountain is not very high, where you can hiking within one day, & most of tourist will return Deqing county on the same day, I suggest that one stay there at least one night to breath the fresh air in the next morning. Summer & fall, as well as public holidays, are rush reasons (hotels pricie will rush too), beside these days, you can find hotel with reaonable price. If you are tired with crowded West Lake of Hangzhou, you can arrange a trip to Moganshan. See more..

I wouldn't say that Dayu's tomb itself is of much interest to most Westerners. The reason my family went (and the only real reason to go, in my opinion) was to spend the day outside with friends strolling the immense grounds of the park in which the tomb resides. It's a pretty nice and very quiet park with typical Chinese architectural, botanical, and statuary features (and some typically cheesy things like a bow & arrow shooting range). Admission is pretty steep, so it's nowhere we've ever considered returning, although we live here in the city. But if a friend invites you out, it's worth the trip. See more..

We stumbled across Qing’an and thought ‘what the heck let’s have a look’ as it was only 10RMB per person. Best 10RBM spent ever as this is a really interesting historical site and museum focused on the maritime history of this part of China. The Hall is an old association building of lovely Chinese architecture. The focus is on boats and there is lots of clever boat models depicting traditional boating styles. But if this is not your gig, the building is beautiful and has a number of interesting courtyards and assembly rooms. It will take no more than and hour and I would highly recommend. See more..

The whole village has been transformed into a scenic area, with the southern wall protecting the area from wind. North of Guihu, the Chengshui Langqiao, 8 km north of Guihu village, is a well preserved bridge hidden away in a picturesque valley, the access to this bridge has recently been developed, with a boating lake, and fish pond. A long disappeared bridge will be in 2015 built to straddle the waterfall at the exit of this lake. 14 km North of the village, at the entrance to Longyang, is the ancient Longyang Langqiao, a beautiful bridge with a triple corridor roof, having spectacular views at sunset.. this huge house and garden started in late ming dynasty, after chen yuanlong became the prime mister in later qing dynasty, the compound was expanded and uplifted to match the official's status. the remaining parts of the compound still occupied 4700+sqm with 1100sqm in buildings. a very example of ancient Chinese garden homes with extensive woodworks, rocks and plants of the rich and the powerful. local folklore was created to make believe that this chen gelao was indeed the birth father of emperor Qianlong who was switched at birth with a royal daughter. the whole thing was based on the fact that Qianlong indeed was very fond of this area and showed special favor to the chen family. So it's possible I had this experience because of the nearby construction or because it's winter, but there wasn't really much going on here. The buildings themselves are pretty, but they're also mostly empty as well. Each one has a sign in both English and Chinese outside, but inside there's not much hint to what you're looking at.
