    Wuzhen Water Town image
Wuzhen, a 1300-year-old water town on the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, is a national 5A scenic area and one of China's top ten historical & cultural towns. Located on the Hangzhou-Jiaxing-Huzhou Plain in northern Zhejiang Province, it is at the center of the golden triangle consisting of Shanghai, Hangzhou and Suzhou. Wuzhen can be easily accessed through a number of expressways and national highways. In 2001, Wuzhen was named as a candidate for UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage List. At the end of 2006, it was included in the revised List of China's Candidates for UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. In 2009, Wuzhen was named as the first PATA eco-tourism destination in Mainland China. The ancient Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal flows through the town, which is divided by waterways into four areas, Dongzha, Xizha, Nanzha, and Beizha. Since its foundation in 872 A.D., Wuzhen has never changed its name, location, waterways, or way of life. Traditional buildings remain intact today even after hundreds years of weathering. See more..

  5. 5.0 Buddhist Shrine Ancient Town (2 reviews)
    - A must visit when in Yiwu City
Spent 2-3 hours Historic Walking Areas • Architectural Buildings • Scenic Walking Areas
Was recommended by local, to spend my last half-a-day in Yiwu city. Was a surprise as able to not only see old buildings but the small shops selling many different things are so interesting. Do try the many different local delicacies - many different types of pastries made on the spot and by people doing it for 2 to 3 generations, and do not miss the rice wine which taste great and believed to bring good health - if taken adequately. 6. 5.0 Damunshan Riding Tea Garden (1 review)
    - A Fun, Relaxing Scenic Getaway
Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Farms • Scenic Walking Areas
    Damunshan Riding Tea Garden image
Songyang is one of Lishui’s nine counties in Zhejiang and focuses most of its industry in producing high-quality teas. Over 7,500 hectares (about 29 square miles) of the county is devoted solely to the cultivation of tea fields, with more being created every day. This is one of the most famous tea fields in the area for tourists – its tea house was featured in the Architecture and Landscape section of the 2015 issue of Forbes Magazine! The sight that met me my first time at Damunshan felt like looking into a gorgeous, serene dreamscape. Ranks of neatly trimmed tea bushes stretched across rolling hills in a sea of green set amidst a backdrop of imposing mountains and clear blue skies. Breezes wafted, sending gentle ripples across the water of a lake. I recommend coming here, walking or cycling around the teafields, and then heading into the teahouse for a tea tasting! To get here: One may take a bus from Lishui center (Liandu County) or ask some generous friends to drive you here. It’s a half hour drive from Songyang’s Xinxing town to get to Damunshan. Damunshan (大木山骑行茶园) is actually considered a “Riding Tea Garden” as it’s labeled as China’s largest cycling tea garden. For 30 kuai, one may rent a mountain bike for two hours from the visitor’s center and cycle up and down winding, sometimes narrow, dirt or concrete paths through the fields and around the surrounding hillsides. 8.3 km of the track is designated for “leisure and fitness cycling” while another 7 km is for professionals. For those less cycling-inclined, there’s also a sightseeing electric car for 200 kuai that can be chartered for a group of seven people or less. Be forewarned that China has less safety standards than in the West: often, bikes are given without care to the bike’s conditions – the gears and/or brakes may be iffy, and there will probably be no helmets provided. 7. 4.0 Xia He Tower (1 review)
    - Xia He Tower
Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Scenic Walking Areas
A landmark of Liandu District in Lishui, Xia He Tower can be seen across Zijin bridge that overlooks Nanming Lake. I’ve been wanting to visit this skinny pagoda for a long time as I would often see it off in the distance while driving around Lishui on my scooter. The tower is on top of Buddha Head Rock, on Biyun Mountain. It was built during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty (1585-ish) and is now considered a “provincial cultural relic.” The legend behind the tower is that it was built to lock down a demon that caused flooding in the area. Getting there proved to be a bit tricky. I found myself driving around construction and unpaved roads. There are traffic signs in English pointing the way, and the tower is easily visible from all directions. The entrance up is actually a hidden road off the highway (be careful looking for it!) . The tower has eight sides and nine floors. Supposedly, it’s the only one built in a pavilion-style with blue bricks. I read online that you can climb the tower, but the door wouldn’t open for me. The tower was renovated in 2002 after decades of damage from the elements and its top cracking from being struck by lightning many times. The Xia He name comes from an old town it was built near. It also offers a pretty view of Lishui's Liandu district from the top of the climb. See more..
