Shuangtong Mountain Scenic Area 双童山景区
Shuangtong Mountain is a beautiful place for hiking. The area's open from 8am to 5pm (ticket sales stop at 3:30pm). For 80rmb, one gets a ticket into the place along with admission to climb onto the glass bridge. The glass slide at the end of the route is extra - to do that, attendants will give you gloves and a loose body suit to slide down. I came here on a Women's Day trip with coworkers. It was fairly new (only about a year old). The hike is a bit steep at parts - by "hiking," I mean the Chinese-style of climbing up steep concrete steps. The scenery is gorgeous. There are waterfalls, neat caves, lots of green trees and tea fields, and beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Signs along the path (in both Chinese and broken English) explain the history of the place and famous figures in history who lived in the region. Watch your footing when climbing and descending as it can be a bit slippery when wet. Also, I feel like some of the areas could be much more secured. The lack of attendants along the route led to some people ducking over dangerous guardrails to take photos of their children on cliff ledges. It's not worth the risk. The glass bridge/observation deck is really neat! It was my first one in China, and I felt it was pretty sturdy and had a nice view. The couple of suspension rope bridges along the way are fun, too. It's definitely a must-see if you're in the area and like spending time outdoors. For 20 rmb near the end of the route, you can buy a laminated photo of yourself on the glass bridge. I'd recommend bringing your own bottled water and snacks, too, as snacks at the rest areas are meager and expensive.
