    Ozeaneum Stralsund image
Great place to learn something about the ocean in general. A lot is about the attached Baltic Sea, so you can learn plenty about it. It's also good for little kids, we had a 4 year old with us. She had a lot to see and to experience. Worth the money, although it had some restrictions due to Corona Virus. See more..

Warnemunde beach is one of the most popular beaches on the Baltic Sea coast. Is huge (more than 10 kilometers long) and wide....dotted with beautiful blue striped "strandkorbe"- a kind of deckchairs. The water is chilly but safe for swimming. The beach is ideal for water sports like windsurfing and kite boarding due to the strong sea breezes. Great place to lay out relaxing or watch the sunset.... See more..

    - Cool sight on a chilly September evening
    Wednesday: 11:00 AM - 10:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Piers & Boardwalks
    Seebruecke Sellin image
We only came to Sellin late one Thursday evening for dinner - then drove as far as we could so that I could jump out of the car and take a nighttime photograph of the Sellin pier. Caught it just as the moon was rising in the background. Then we had to continue on our way... See more..
  7. 4.5 Alter Strom (647 reviews)
    - A'dam; Copenhagen; Willemstad,Curacao; & Alter Storm
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Alter Strom image
Alter Storm fits right in with those in the title (Amsterdam, Nyhavn, Willemstad) Stroll along the waterway and encounter outside cafes on a sunny day to eat, drink, and relax in this lovely unobtrusive setting. Fishing skiffs, tourist boats, and personal craft line each side where you will also find lodging and merchants too. A very peaceful setting where people are enjoying themselves and their surroundings. Easy access from the Train Station or the Cruise Port. And the splendid beach is just steps away. See more..
  8. 4.5 Kreidefelsen (557 reviews)
    - Direction Königsstuhl take the high shore path and back down to the sea
    Historic Walking Areas
    Kreidefelsen image
Well, if you like the chalk cliffs or not, everybody has to decide for himself. They are characteristic for Rügen, so take a look at them. There are different places where you can especially look at this natural spectacle. Of course the Victoria observation deck is a nice point (maybe the most beautiful one)? But along the Hochuferweg there are so many beautiful perspectives that you should not miss. If you go there by car, it's your own fault (parking, fees, still walking). You can not get lost... and public transportation goes there as well. We saved the entrance fee, because we were not interested in the Documentation Center, only movement in the open air, view, once from Sassnitz, once from Lomme. Important: Near Königsstuhl it will be full, just as near Sassnitz. In between there is a lot of peace and quiet. Recommended if you are good on foot, to walk back down to the sea (to Sassnitz). Here the rocky outcrops become really dramatic. See more..
  9. 4.5 Warnemunde Lighthouse (498 reviews)
    - Great views, 175 steps to the top
    Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Lighthouses
    Warnemunde Lighthouse image
The great views that you get after climbing 175 steps to the top is the reward. The walk from the cruise terminal was a leisurely 15 min, 2 Euro entry fee is reasonable. There were lots of people on the beach watching a beach football match. It was good to spend the day in Rostock & Warnemunde on a hot day instead of taking the long non a/c train trip to Berlin. In any case, we've been to Berlin previously. See more..
  10. 4.5 Kuhlungsborn Beach (409 reviews)
    - Beautiful white beach
    Beaches
    Kuhlungsborn Beach image
Visited in October. Fabulous atmosphere on a very windy day with big waves, with gorgeous sunshine later that same week. Spent one entire day sitting in a strandkorb for 12 euros (bargain!), our noses turned towards the sun, fetching fischbrötchen from the local fishmongers for lunch. Bliss. Would return and day. See more..
  11. 4.5 Sankt Marien Kirche (392 reviews)
    - Must see site in Rostock at St Mary's Church
    Spent < 1 hour Churches & Cathedrals
    Sankt Marien Kirche image
We travelled independently to Rostock from our cruise ship instead of taking the cruise line's excursion to Berlin. The Warnemunde train station is a 10 min walk from the cruise terminal and day tickets by S-Bahn cost 6 Euro each. The train takes 21 mins to Rostock Hauptbahnhof and you can either walk to the city centre or take the tram, which is covered by the day ticket, we opted to walk one way. Our primary reason to visit Rostock was to see the Astronomical Clock dating back to 1472, amazing piece of engineering with the original clockworks, precision workmanship that works today after more than 5 centuries. The clock is wound everyday! Being a Sunday, most of the city was closed. We however walked the lovely streets & had a light lunch as well. See more..
  12. 4.5 Rostock Zoo (348 reviews)
    - Huge zoo
Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours Zoos

The church in the heart of the attractive town has a rich history and some nice treasures, like stained glass windows and late medieval brass plates on the wall, parts of old frescoes etc. It is also used for contemporary exhibitions. 15. 4.5 Binzer Strand (283 reviews)
    - Really tidy sand beach
    Beaches
    Binzer Strand image
Tidy sandy beach, everything in good order: toilets, supervision, stalls. Many beach chairs, everything well structured: beaches with clothing, for nudists, with dogs, and very long. You are guaranteed to find your place. Recommendable. Important: you pay your tourist tax at the entrance (so you have to take a ticket). The access is easy and flat. See more..
  16. 4.5 Strand Warnemünde (280 reviews)
    - Great Beach! Just do it!
    Spent 2-3 hours Beaches
    Strand Warnemünde image
Warnemunde has a long 3 km beach which is also very wide and sandy. They rent beach chairs on the beach. The water is great, very calm and only slightly salty. Water temperature was cool but pleasant (17 C). The part of the beach further from the town center (about 1,5 km away) is designated as an FKK - textile free beach, i.e. it is a naturist beach and bathing suits are tolerated but not necessary. See more..
  17. 4.5 Nikolaikirche (273 reviews)
    - A Pleasant surprise ! ! !
Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Nikolaikirche image
Walking down the streets behind the church drew us in with it's enrmity. We circled the church and then entered a massive structure and consumed it's relics, archetecture and style. Make sure your eyes taken in all angles. Left to right , up and down, and of course the ceilings too. See more..
  18. 4.5 German Oceanographic Museum (Deutsches Meeresmuseum) (273 reviews)
    - Surprisingly large and interesting
    Speciality Museums • Aquariums
German Oceanographic Museum (Deutsches Meeresmuseum) image
Visited the museum with two kids (6 and 8 years old). Had thought it was relatively small now that they had build the new Oceaneum too, but it just went on and on. We used a lot of time in there. Lots of displays and information on fishing, boats, the sea and oceans, a large area with aquariums with exotic fish. See more..
  19. 4.5 The Mollie Steam Train (264 reviews)
    - Worth it as a daytrip to the seaside
    Hiking Trails
    The Mollie Steam Train image
Fun day tour to ride the train to the beachside then enjoy the town there. Riding one way for around an hour was the perfect amount of vintage train ride to enjoy, more than an hour or two and it gets a bit boring. The steam engine will move to the back of the train and start pulling the carriages in reverse, so if you are in the last car you might find yourself suddenly in the front with a great view of the engine at work. See more..
  20. 4.5 Doberaner Münster (248 reviews)
    - Worth a Stop
    Religious Sites
    Doberaner Münster image
A beautiful example of what a rich noble can build as his "local" church. Was a nice historical stop on a day tour to the Molli train / seaside. Impressive columns and vaulted ceiling. Worth a quick stop even in a land with many beautiful church buildings. See more..
  21. 4.5 St. Marienkirche (181 reviews)
    - The pipe organ is magnificent
    Churches & Cathedrals
    St. Marienkirche image
A very grand structure with an excellent pipe organ. If really enthusiastic and fit you can climb the multiple stairs up to the bell tower. Otherwise just spend 20 mins or so walking around at ground level and admire the works of art and very high roof. See more..
  22. 4.5 BARENWALD Muritz (168 reviews)
    - Worth the trip, and you can take you dog. Signs in German and English.
Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Amusement & Theme Parks
    BARENWALD Muritz image
Since 2006, the BEAR SANCTUARY Müritz has provided mistreated and neglected bears with a safe and natural home. At the time of writing, 14 brown bears live in the open air enclosure, which covers an area of some 16 hectares. Visitors to the sanctuary can take a walk through the park, experience the bears in their natural environment and learn more about these most fascinating of wild animals at the many and varied interactive information points. What the bears find here is a habitat which repects and caters for their natural requirements. A varied landscape with mixed woodland, grasslands, forest glades, hillsides and a natural water course. These are the best possible conditions for brown bears to rediscover their true and instinctive characteristics; to live as nature intended. See more..
  23. 4.5 Insel Hiddensee (153 reviews)
    - Such A Beautiful Getaway
    Islands
    Insel Hiddensee image
We visited Hiddensee in spring. Cars are not allowed on the island which means if you come to Hiddensee via Rügen Island you need to park your car in Schaprode (near the harbour there is a smaller car park for 3 EUR/day). The boat trip is about 18 EUR/person (you need to pay a daily tourist tax for the island too). There are mainly 3 townships you can reach by boat: Neuendorf, Klosters and Vitte. We got off the boat in Vitte (the "biggest" township) and rent a bicycle over there (I think it was 7 EUR/day per person). Just explore the island by bike. Take swimmers with you as the beaches are long, visit the lighthouses (we went to the one near Klosters), enjoy some fresh fish buns and simpley breathe the clear air. We really spent an awesome day on Hiddensee and would always come back. See more..
  24. 4.5 Mueritz-Nationalpark (137 reviews)
    - Great bicycling area
    National Parks
    Mueritz-Nationalpark image
We visit the Park with friends who live on The Müritz. Mostly, our bicycling has been at the level for children (they have a family of 4 children). The Park is very level with lots of lakes, openings and replanted trees. See more..
  25. 4.5 Störtebeker Braumanufaktur (126 reviews)
    - Awesome
Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Breweries
    Störtebeker Braumanufaktur image
More than just a brewery. An experience. Stortebeker Braumanufaktur was established in 1827. Since that time, beers of the highest quality have been brewed in our brewery located in the Hanseatic city of Stralsund. Today our brewery stands for German identity, excellent specialty brews and a unique brewing culture. As a small and independent company we have always felt that we have more in common with the craft of brewing than with the brewing industry. Thanks to short distances and great fl exibility we are able to do things that are impossible for other: experiment and test to our heart‘s content until we are satisfi ed with the recipe for a new specialty brew. Should you pass by our brewery, just drop in. You can take part in the Brewery Tour or Beer Tasting with our experts, or choose a beer to match your food in our pub. We look forward to your visit. See more..
  26. 4.0 KdF - Koloss von Ruegen (880 reviews)
    - Glad we stopped off to see all of this.
    Architectural Buildings
KdF - Koloss von Ruegen image
Well, this was an interesting place. The longest building complex in the world. It originally consisted of eight identical buildings and was 4.5 km (2.8 mi) in length parallel to the beach, with the surviving structures stretching 3.0 km (1.9 mi). And it was built by the Nazis between 1936 and 1939 as part of their "Strength through Joy" (Kraft durch Freude or KdF) project. Eerily weird. Some of the buildings have been turned into apartments and even a hotel. But others are still completely abandoned and in poor shape. One seems to have been taken over by bats and there is now concern about where the bats will live when these buildings are also turned into prime real estate. Fascinating history including the use of the buildings by both the Russian military and then the army of the former East Germany in later years. Oh, and the beach running parallel to all of this is superb. On our visit even the sun came out and the east wind dropped. Really glad that we came. See more..
  27. 4.0 Granitz Hunting Lodge (552 reviews)
    - Nice and interesting place.
    Wednesday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Castles
    Granitz Hunting Lodge image
Great service, and nice restaurant with fair prices. We visit the place with our family including 7 people. Please notice it's 2 km. walking uphill in the forest. See more..
  28. 4.0 Karls Erlebnis-Dorf Roevershagen (500 reviews)
    - Karl’s never disappoints
Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours Amusement & Theme Parks
    Karls Erlebnis-Dorf Roevershagen image
Karls is a colorful mix of exciting experiences, shopping and culinary delights in Rovershagen near Rostock. See more..
  29. 4.0 Nationalpark Jasmund Königsstuhl (484 reviews)
    - Breathtaking views and great food
    Spent 2-3 hours Geologic Formations
    Nationalpark Jasmund Königsstuhl image
The Jasmund National Park is home to the magnificent chalk coast of the island of Rügen and the Jasmund peninsula with its hilly plateau. Beech forests, chalk cliffs and the sea form fascinating scenery, which cast its spell over the artists of the Romantic period and even today has lost nothing of its stunning attraction. Within the 3,102-hectare protected area, the largest contiguous beech forest on the Baltic coast covers 2,100 hectares of land.As a UNESCO World Heritage Area "Ancient Beech Forests of Germany", a representative section of landscape, partially unaffected by humans, in the east of the Jasmund National Park was identified, which extends from the drift line of the Baltic, up the steep coast to the plateau. The size of the area is 493 hectares. See more..
  30. 4.0 Seebruecke (468 reviews)
    - Disappointingly average looking wooden pier.
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Seebruecke image
Busy - on the sunny day we came to town and the beach this pier was packed with holiday makers. To be honest I would have expected a bit more from what normally appears to be quite a classy town. They call it a "Sea bridge" but it's not bridging anything. More a standard wooden platform jutting out into the sea and from where we understand tour boats dock to take people to view the nearby coast and the chalk cliffs. Thoroughly unimpressive... We moved on further north to enjoy the splendid, long beach which stretches out for miles (or should I say kilometers?). See more..
