Unforgettable, amazingly broad beach with white sand, which will remain in your memory for a long... Walking along this place gives you a feeling that you are somewhere on another planet.... - 4.5 Lübeck Altstadt (Lubeck Oldtown) (2.118 reviews)
-Beautiful old city
Neighborhoods
There are so many historical sightseeing places in the old town area, but the best city view is from the St. Petri tower. You will see the whole beautiful city from there. Try nice river restaurants very close to the tower too. See more..
- 4.5 Holstentor (1.428 reviews)
-Impressive gateway
Wednesday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Speciality Museums
I didn't go in to the building - not sure it was even open to be honest as both times I walked through there were no obvious signs. The building is one of the old city gates and the emblem of modern Lubeck. It is a very impressive, brick built fifteenth century fortification but now stands in isolation, the city walls having been removed in the nineteenth century. There is an interesting contrast between the inside and outside walls of the building. The walls facing the city have lots of windows and are very ornate, the exterior walls have far fewer openings other than those for guns. There are also doubts over the accuracy of the early twentieth century restorations. See more..
- 4.5 Marienkirche (758 reviews)
-Gewölbeführung: Zwischen Himmel und Erde (Vaulting tour: Between heaven and earth):
Wednesday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Religious Sites
So geht Geschichte live. The architecture of the church, the history of its origin, the reconstruction, the ascent over the south tower up to the carillon (with trying out), the walk over the main vault (incredible architecture) up to the ridge turret with a breathtaking view over the city to the horizon. Deeply moving. A must for anyone in Lübeck. Many thanks to the guides. This is how history goes live. See more..
- 4.5 Travemunde (757 reviews)
-Beaches are lovely in winters too!
Beaches
Who says a beach is a bad idea in winters? The water is so calm, there are very few people, so you can just laze around the beach, and maybe go for a walk, check out the some cool places near the beach. There are even a couple of restaurants around if that interests you. Plus it's cheaper this time of the year than in the summer - but of course there is no sun, and you can't go swimming. But I loved to explore the place since it wasn't crowded at all! See more..
- 4.5 Sankt Peter Ording Beach (680 reviews)

- 4.5 German Submarine U-995 (647 reviews)
-Looking a Little Rusty yet Worth the Visit
Wednesday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Military Museums • Historic Sites • Educational sites
I don't like cramped and spaces in water, however, if visiting Usedom I would recommend going on this tour of the submarine. I have never been on anything like it, it is extremely fascinating for those interested in the WW's and definitely something I won't forget. It is quite an experience to take the same footsteps as those in the past. Once you have worked out how to get on board (a strange timed turnstyle) you are effectively left to yourself to explore the submarine. Putting yourself in the shoes of those that operated it is quite traumatic, it is cramped and smells strongly of fuel. The submarine was cool when we were there, however, I can imagine it became very hot with all the machinery on. The main downside of the tour is that all the signs are in German - so take a translation device along if you need one. See more..
- 4.5 Laboe Naval Memorial (551 reviews)
-A Memorial to the Lives Lost in Battle at Sea
Wednesday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Monuments & Statues
Construction on this memorial began in 1927, as a remembrance of the sailors killed in the first world war. It was completed in 1936 during the Nazi era. Today, it recognizes all sailors who died in both world wars on each side of these conflicts. The views from the observation deck are quite spectacular and highly recommended. I made the dubious decision to take the stairs to the top, because I can get a little leery of heights and got a little winded by the end. But it was very safe. I did decide to take the elevator on the way down. You can visit the memorial for 8€ or the memorial and U-995 for the combined price of 13€ for adults. I recommend taking the ferry to Laboe from Kiel. I picked up the ferry just across from the Hauptbahnhof and it was only ~5€. It was a beautiful journey across the fjord. It is a short walk north from the ferry stop to the memorial along the strand. On the way back, I took a bus back from Laboe Village to Kiel, which was quicker. See more..

- 4.5 Glucksburger Schloss (233 reviews)
-A childhood dream came true
Castles • History Museums
Well, what can you say about this beautiful castle? It is situated in a lake, looks amazing from every angle and has a long history. I was NOT inside the castle itself because the weather was so nice and I wanted to enjoy the fresh air outside. There is a route leading around the lake with breathtaking views towards the castle and the surrounding landscape. When the weather is fine you can rest on several benches (my fav one was next to a little fishing hut or so). Would I go there again? Yes, yes and yes. Coming there by car? There is a car park in front of the castle. But you need to pay. If you drive some 50 or 100m further you can park there for free (2 hrs max). Near the train station is another free parking). The castle is in walking distance (less than 10min depending on where you park). See more..

- 4.5 Multimar Wattforum (205 reviews)
-We love it
Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Aquariums
One of the best experiences I have had - according to nature, science and learning. Very good information and practical things to explain the mechanics of tide, waves and many more. Recommended for Kids. The Restaurant is good and the prices reasonable. There is a big outdoor playground for kids near the Restaurant. See more..
- 4.5 Schloss Gottorf (204 reviews)
-Not to be missed - Globushaus and Fürstengarten
Castles
We skipped the museum and went straight to the Globushaus to see the Gottorfer Globus. It's about a 10 minute walk north of the castle and separate entry fee (7€ adult including audio tour). Even though the globe is a replica of the original, it is one of the most spectacular pieces of art I've seen - lots of intricate details to admire both the outside and inside the globe. Yeah, you could go inside it! See more..

- 4.5 Lübecker Weihnachtsmarkt (188 reviews)
-A must!
Flea & Street Markets
This is the reason we visit Lübeck before Christmas. Especially around the market square, but also along the streets and in the backyards. A lot of food, drink, crafts, entertainment and more. This is a fun way of spending a couple of days shopping Christmas gifts. One of the evenings we go to a regular restaurant, but the other night we just go around the market square trying the different food stands. The ham sandwich … wow! See more..
- 4.5 Seehundstation Friedrichskoog (186 reviews)
-What a lovely place
Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM Aquariums
This station is located in the North of Germany, and great day trip from Hamburg. Only 7 EUR entry to support the great work they do, rehabilitating seals, you can spend about an hour in the site, but can walk around the fields all over. A must is to go have some food at any little fish shop in the vicinity, good German food. Make a day of it, and research restaurants in neighboring towns. See more..
- 4.5 Seebrücke (181 reviews)
-Super
Spent < 1 hour Bridges
A nice place to enjoy when the watter comes and goes ! You can also ride your bike fast all the way ! See more..
- 4.5 Karl May Spiele Bad Segeberg (173 reviews)
-Cowboys and Indians
Spent 2-3 hours Theatre & Performances
Perfect thing for a family with kids or someone who likes to remember their youth. It's a openair theater which plays the "Karl May"-Stories of Winnetou and Old Shatterhand. I really enjoyed it and it was a beautiful summer day. It was on a sunday and there were plenty of seats left to choose from, so no booking in advance necessary. Just prepare on hot days with enough sun protection and liquids because there is no shade. If you arrive by public transport then take your time, because the theater has no connections with the timetable of the train; you have to count that your arrival in Bad Segeberg will be one hour before it begins and the departure is one hour after it ends. The walk from the railway station is about 15 minutes, but there is a great catering at the place to choose from. Also the theater is not that well if you are disabled. See more..
- 4.5 Willy Brandt House, Lubeck (170 reviews)
-History of the 20th century
Wednesday: 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM History Museums
