Impressive gateway

I didn't go in to the building - not sure it was even open to be honest as both times I walked through there were no obvious signs. The building is one of the old city gates and the emblem of modern Lubeck. It is a very impressive, brick built fifteenth century fortification but now stands in isolation, the city walls having been removed in the nineteenth century. There is an interesting contrast between the inside and outside walls of the building. The walls facing the city have lots of windows and are very ornate, the exterior walls have far fewer openings other than those for guns. There are also doubts over the accuracy of the early twentieth century restorations.

    The gate to Germany
Built in 1477, Holstentor was once the most important gate to the ports of Germany. Since then it has been renovated at least twice while always maintaining its charme. It is still considered the center of the town. The museum inside the gate offers deep historical insights about Lübeck and its region. Definitely worth a visit!

    Nice Architecture
Nice place to visit (we were not in but just outside). Beautiful garden and close to several other Lübeck nice places to visit. Some pigeons around could make your visit not pleasant and also is making the monument a bit dirty. You can make some nice pictures, appreciate the architecture and history and that is it.. It is worthy the visit (30-60min)
