  1. 4.0 The Peenemunde Historical Technical Museum (370 reviews)
    - impressive and oppressive at the same time
    Military Museums • History Museums
The Peenemunde Historical Technical Museum image
It's the cradle of space technology and rockets - and it's one of Germany's darkest places of history... It also shows how mendacious the allied acted to use the knowledge of German engineers for their interests after the Second World War.
In addition, there are impressive buildings and unique exhibits to look at. Don't miss to take the lift (1.00 €) to the roof of the power station for a very good all-round view.

You should plan at least 2 hours for your stay... if you also want to take a look at alternating special exhibitions and watch some of the shown movies you can double time.

    - Great old Tall Ship with a interesting past.
Sunday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Military Museums • Ships • Educational sites
    Gorch Fock I image
You can gain access to the tall ship for 5 euros and you have the opportunity to walk through it including lower decks. Ask for an english information sheet to learn about its history as there is mostly german descriptions. The exhibit shows the german russian and present eras of the ship. There is a small museum on the lower floor. Make sure you look at the newspapers there are interesting election advertisements (nothing to do with the ship but interesting none the less). We parked directly across from the ship in a paid parking lot for only 1 euro and spent about an hour on the ship. Not a bad thing to see if you have limited time. See more..

  4. 3.5 Museum Festung Doemitz (24 reviews)
    - Interesting Castle on the East-West German Border

    Museum Festung Doemitz image
Very interesting place to visit. Unfortunately, while all the warning signs are in 3 languages all the information is not. You need to read German to get the most out of your visit. Do not let that put you off from visiting. Your entrance fee goes to support valuable restoration work. Parking nearby is free and its a great place for a picnic or to go hiking. The town is very quaint and pretty. Well worth seeing. Nearby is a fragment of the border fence from the DDR and the castle has an exhibition of the day the people of East Germany became free to travel to the West. See more..

The Mahn und Gedenkstatten Wobbelin is a military museum that recognized the accomplishments of the 82nd Airborne and the liberation of the Nazi Concentration camp in Wobbelin during WWII. The museum is located a few miles down from Ludwigslust (site of a memorial burial ground for the prisoners of the camp). The museum gives an incredible overview of the camp, the liberation of the prisoners and honors those who lost their lives while in the camp. A must visit for WWII history buffs. See more..
