4.5Alter Strom(647 reviews) - A'dam; Copenhagen; Willemstad,Curacao; & Alter Storm Points of Interest & Landmarks
Alter Storm fits right in with those in the title (Amsterdam, Nyhavn, Willemstad) Stroll along the waterway and encounter outside cafes on a sunny day to eat, drink, and relax in this lovely unobtrusive setting. Fishing skiffs, tourist boats, and personal craft line each side where you will also find lodging and merchants too. A very peaceful setting where people are enjoying themselves and their surroundings. Easy access from the Train Station or the Cruise Port. And the splendid beach is just steps away.See more..
4.5Warnemunde Lighthouse(498 reviews) - Great views, 175 steps to the top Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Lighthouses
The great views that you get after climbing 175 steps to the top is the reward. The walk from the cruise terminal was a leisurely 15 min, 2 Euro entry fee is reasonable. There were lots of people on the beach watching a beach football match. It was good to spend the day in Rostock & Warnemunde on a hot day instead of taking the long non a/c train trip to Berlin. In any case, we've been to Berlin previously.See more..
4.0Seebruecke(468 reviews) - Disappointingly average looking wooden pier. Points of Interest & Landmarks
Busy - on the sunny day we came to town and the beach this pier was packed with holiday makers. To be honest I would have expected a bit more from what normally appears to be quite a classy town. They call it a "Sea bridge" but it's not bridging anything. More a standard wooden platform jutting out into the sea and from where we understand tour boats dock to take people to view the nearby coast and the chalk cliffs. Thoroughly unimpressive... We moved on further north to enjoy the splendid, long beach which stretches out for miles (or should I say kilometers?).See more..
4.0Seebrücke Heringsdorf(412 reviews) - Worth a walk along Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings • Observation Decks & Towers
Reminiscent of an English pier but much cleaner and newer. Just walk to the end, catch a boat there or stop in the excellent cafe . You can take nice photos of the beachfront from here and also observe lots of sea birds. There are several benches to sit on to breathe in the sea air and look at the waves below you.See more..

4.0Kirche St. Georgen(161 reviews) - Great views all round from the top of the tower Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
It is well worth paying the 3 euros per head to go up in the glass lift to the observation platform at the top of this church. The views really are astounding. We could even see the funnel of the cruise liner that we had arrived in. The internal aspects of the building itself iare also worth viewing also it is currently a bit of a building site in some areas.See more..

4.0Rostock City Wall(83 reviews) - A wall to be proud of Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Historic Walking Areas
Rostock is a pretty little walled town very easy to walk around. The wall has obviously been built up from what is left of the original fortifications, but it has be done in a respectful way so that you can see and appreciate what it would have looked like. We walked along the Main Street to the tower at the end and then turned left and back on ourselves into a park running along the edge of the old city walls. It was beautifully landscaped and was a great place to stroll and admire the old fortifications. We got a train to Rostock and it’s only a short walk from the station to the town, very easy to do.See more..

4.0Port of Rostock(77 reviews) - Public Transit to Port of Rostock Points of Interest & Landmarks
There are two ports in the Warnemunde area, one of which is the Rostock port or Seehafen Fahre. We took a cruise with Pullmantur which was docked at the Rostock port. This port is the commercial port and the cruise terminal is in temporary buildings. It took me some time to figure out how to get there using public transit so I thought it would be useful to document this. We stayed a few days in Berlin before coming to Rostock by the Regional Train. The journey from the Berlin Hauptbahnhof to the Rostock Hauptbahnhof, takes about 2.5 hours. There is an arrow in the Rostock Hbf, indicating where to catch Bus #49 that goes to Seehafen Fahre where the ship was docked. It cost about 2.10 euros and took about 40 minutes to get to the Port. After that It was about a 300 meter walk to get to where the ship was actually docked.See more..

2.5Tauchgondel Zinnowitz(72 reviews) - Amazing Wednesday: 10:00 AM - 9:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
We loved the whole experience. Yes the water is green, but you still saw fish and jelly fish. No I didn’t understand a word of the presentation, it’s in German, which we were warned about. The 3D movie was loved by the children there. I was surprised to still feel the movement when it stopped going down, some of the waves were a bit jerky. Highly recommended. See more..
4.0University of Rostock(71 reviews) - University Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Universities & Schools • Architectural Buildings

4.0Seebrüecke(68 reviews) - Bleak but beautiful! Points of Interest & Landmarks
It's the pre-Summer season, so there was no one on the beaches bit us. But, once it gets hot and the industrial vacations begin, things will change. But they do some clever things like covering the sand trails from the street to beach with hay, so that one can walk more easily to the beach. Quaint. Interestingly, one can still feel that it has been a mere 30 years since the DDR collapsed, and West Germany filled the deep dark hole of E. German infrastructure. But, here is where the Nazi's and then the Communist elite held their vacations. Oddly, one can still feel it. Generally, they speak only German. And yet, there is a bleak beauty which is hard to deny. And the constant wind blowing from in from the Straits between Denmark and Germany provide windsurfers and para-surfers with fantastic conditions for speed surfing. Some really cozy local pubs and restaurants provide a window to North German culture. There are some very nice shops in Warneműnde, and an old tower that allows you to see Denmark. If you like beaches, wind, cycling, speak German and enjoy a taste and sense of German political history, I would say this is well worth a visit. There are some very quaint towns and places of interest.See more..
4.5Hospitalkirche zum Heiligen Geist(67 reviews) - This Church of the Holy Spirit Wismar is a real naveless gem. Points of Interest & Landmarks
Adjoining a hospital built in 1250, this church was added in 1323, and took its present form in the 15th C. After dropping the 2 Euro each donation in the entry box, we raised our eyes to the beautiful wooden baroque ceiling painted in biblical scenes in 1687. More gems include; a 1585 Winged Altar from St George's Church, a 1585 Renaissance pulpit in remarkable condition, a 14th C Meditation Fresco, a 1400 Gothic Stained Glass Window from demolished St Mary, and many 16th C pew markers. This small church makes up for the lack of detailed ornamentation in this city's huge churches.See more..

4.0Lowendenkmal(48 reviews) - Kiss my a**, indeed! Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
I glanced at this statue, in the beautiful market square, without really seeing it the first time we passed it on the way to the cathedral nearby. Luckily I looked more closely when passing a second time. What a hoot! One facet of the base shows two long rows of citizens of Schwerin--male and female--mooning a "person of note" [rebelled against Duke Henry] as he rides horseback out of town, his horse's rear just one more element in the mocking display. Search it out!See more..

Just off of the main street this is a 'must see' in Rostock. Everywhere you look there is something different to see from the massive organ, stained glass windows, unusual astronomical clock, beautifully carved pulpit and altar and even a model of a ship hanging down. If you can get there for noon then do so to see the clock in action (as you go into the church turn right). As you come out of the church, turn right and go into the quaint tea shop (they also have a small garden area). We had 2 coffees and 2 large pieces of home made cake for 5 Euros!See more..

4.0Seebrueke Koserow an der Ostsee(30 reviews) - A little bit disappointing Spent More than 3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Piers & Boardwalks
Do not expect something spectacular, when you are visiting this location. The wooden construct is currently in a bad shape, the view is nice. You cannot walk the whole bridge because your way will be blocked after 50 meters. It is kind of relaxing to sit down and watch the seagulls. But that is all! I had honestly expected more.See more..

4.0Fürstenhof(28 reviews) - An appealing former palace! Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings
While our cruise ship was berthed in the port of Rostock, we participated in a guided tour to the UNESCO listed town of Wismar. While being taken on a walking tour of the town, our tour guide led us past the Furstenhof as we were on our way to visit the St. Georgen Church. While the former small palace was not part of our tour as such, our tour guide did point out the building to us and briefly commented upon it. The most striking parts of the building were the beautifully detailed artwork and carvings on the building’s façade and the arched passageway visible from the front courtyard. Certainly worth a quick look by any tourist who happens to find themselves in this part of Wismar.See more..
