The museum in front of the castle has an important collection of (Dutch) 17th century art. A large 18th century picture of rhinoceros Clara, who toured in Europe and was owned by a wealthy merchant of Groningen by French painter Oudry is fascinating (this info is not given). More of his animal paintings are at Ludwigslust. The museum also houses temporary exhibitions, during our visit, a good one with art of light, inclusing some interactive exhibits, well done. The museum is really nice and shows local artists or artists who painted in this region. The staff was extremely helpful. I could have spend hours there talking to one of the guides. The location is beautiful and there is a small but very relaxing garden where you can get a coffee behind the museum. See more..

This is a really cool art museum in Schwaan. The house is beautiful, and the paintings and the sculpture park behind it are well worth a visit. I'd definitely recommend going here from Rostock. It's not far and it's a museum like you won't find in a bigger city. See more..

  10. Schloss Kummerow (0 review)

    Schloss Kummerow image
