In addition, there are impressive buildings and unique exhibits to look at. Don't miss to take the lift (1.00 €) to the roof of the power station for a very good all-round view.

You should plan at least 2 hours for your stay... if you also want to take a look at alternating special exhibitions and watch some of the shown movies you can double time. See more..

We didn't actually visit the museum. But headed to the far northern point of the Prora military complex. Here you can see the real remains of the size story huge complex. While there is a fence around the ruins, there are many places where you can access to get a closer view. You do need to be careful though when exploring. See more..

This small Museum off the beaten path is a great diversion from other Rugen attractions. It tells an historical story of chalk mining in Rugen. There are lots of fossils to view and a short movie on mining. You end up walking outside to see some aged mining equipment as well as a great view of chalk cliffs. I think you can also hike up to them (10 minute walk written on a sign). They also offer some great fossils for sale and a great souvenir of the island. I recall a family entrance was around 10 euros, very reasonable. They provided an English fact sheet to review as most items were written in German. See more..

This museum is right near the tourist information which recommended it to us. For 3 euros you get admission and an audio tour in English. The museum covers the development of the area from a sleepy fishing village 100 years ago to one of Germany's most popular resort towns. They have many fishing related artifacts and do a good job of taking you back 100 years. This is a smaller museum but is packed with history and the story is told in an organized sequence worthy of any big city museum. It was nice weather when we were there and the museum was not crowded. This is a must see attraction. See more..

We ended up at the Burgmuseum when some extended family members were showing us around Plau Am See. The weather had been a bit rainy, and looking for an indoor activity, we ended up at this museum. It is a lovely little local/area history museum with staff members who are take pride in what it offers. The most interesting feature of the museum is that is has things that are still operational and that the staff will demonstrate for you. These include a magnifying/illumination mechanism used in shoe making in days-gone-by, printing press/type setting machines, and a steam power demo machine. The docent showed us all of these things "in action." I found the printing machines to be the most interesting. The upper level featured displays of historical bicycles, antique fishing equipment, and about animal trapping. The entrance fee was so low, we felt compelled to put something in the donation box at then end. Kids were 50 euro cents and adults I think were 2.50 euros. Everything is in German and the docent spoke only German. Our family is fortunate to have one fluent German speaker among us to interpret. However, even if you don't understand the language, the entrance fee is beyond reasonable, the physical displays will still be interesting, and you'll feel great about supporting this museum which is clearly a labor of love and civic pride for those who founded it and work there. My son has a specialist engineering interest in one of the items in this museum so we made special arrangements with the museum staff to visit. Newly opened in April 2015, the museum is spread out through 4 main halls which is arranged in a 3 sided U shape of modern construction. Wheelchair access is easy as it is all on one level. There are more than 100 vehicles in excellent condition, many have model horses to finish the effect. There are areas showing carriage lamps, horse bridles and harnesses, coachman uniforms and other artefacts. Some examples can be seen on their website http://www.kutschenmuseum-mv.de The cafe serves coffee and cake and sausage and potato or Russian-style soup. All the staff and the owner are very friendly and enthusiastic about what has been created. They deserve tourist support for this unique venture and we are glad we made the effort to visit. Eine sehr schöne, selbst zusammen gestellte Sammlung von Bernstein, überwiegend Ostseebernstein, von Herrn Moldenhauer sen. selbst in und nach den Sturmmonaten mit dem Kescher gefischt. Kurzweilige Einführung, wieso - woher - weswegen. Sollte man auf jeden Fall neben dem Darß Museum besuchen. Auch ist von Herrn Moldenhauer ein Beispiel, wie und wann man wieviel Bernstein fischen (keschern) kann. Der Eintritt ist frei, Darß Museum kostet Eintritt zur Erhaltung des Museums.

Man findet authentische Nachbauten von Gebäuden aus dem 13. Jahrhundert: hauptsächlich Handwerker-Hütten und Versammlungshäuser. Handwerksprodukte kann man sehr günstig erwerben. Ein sehr netter Ritter/Schuhmacher, der in der Saison im Castrum lebt und auch schläft, hat uns sehr gut informiert. Eine Jugendherberge ist dem Castrum angeschlossen. Absolut sehenswert ist auch die (kleine) multimediale Ausstellung zum Leben des Markgrafen Otto IV. von Brandenburg aus derselben Zeit. Dioramen mit Toneinspielungen zeigen verschiedene Situationen im Leben eines Markgrafen dieser Zeit. See more..

Insgesamt eine kleine, aber feine Sammlung von Wildexponaten, Waffen und Forstwerkzeugen.
Highlight: Todeskampf 2er Rothirsche mit verkeilten Geweihen.
Dieses Museum hätte einen besseren Rahmen verdient.

Wir hatten das Kreisagrarmuseum von Freunden empfohlen bekommen. Es ist wirklich liebevoll gemacht. Es gibt von landwirtschaftlichen Geräten aus früheren Zeiten, als auch Traktoren, einem Landwirtschaftlichen Flugzeug, einige Motorräder zu sehen. Zudem gibt es viele Exponate aus dem ehemaligen DDR von Fibeln & Büchern hin bis alten Computer. Es ist kurzweilig und zudem gab es eine kleine Sonderausstellung mit Bildern.
Der Shop hat ebenfalls einiges zu bieten und ein Spielplatz für die Kinder gibt es am Ende auch noch. Es war einen Besuch wert! See more..
