A delight to come across this lovely bronze sculpture by Wolfgang Friedrich in the street. Not one's normal spouting fountain, but a steady flow of water alongside the 'procession' of 19 bronze figures. Well worth looking out for. See more..

As our hotel in Schwerin faced Grunthalplatz where this fountain, called ‘Rescue at Sea’ (‘Rettung aus Seenot’ in German), is to be found, we walked past it many times and could even see it from our room. The slightly erotic Jugendstil fountain (1911) shows a naked woman being saved from a wrecked ship by a man. Both figures stand atop a triangular heap of stones representing the ship with its anchor and the water (or rocks?). We liked the theatrical but elegant pose of the bronzes by Hugo Berwald-Schwerin (1863 -1937). The large round basin, surrounded by water-spouting seals provides a touch of lightness. For many travellers the brink is a welcome place to rest their feet. See more..
