  7. 4.5 Devil's Den State Park (356 reviews)
    - great state park

    Devil's Den State Park image
We really enjoyed this park. It was the most crowded of all the AR state parks we visited but we were still able to keep our distance from others. We are on a mission to take my 85 year old father to all the national parks and in between we go to state parks. AR state parks are mostly all free unless you are camping or staying at one of their lodges/cabins. To spend a day hiking and having a picnic it is free. I love all the unique entry signs. This place has a pool that was closed I assumed other too early in season or COVID. The CCC has build some amazing things at this park like the dam that created such a great waterfall (the jewel of the park). This park had some amazing cabin that I would love to stay in one day. Overall a beautiful park. I wish it was a tad less busy. I assume when pool is running it is even more popular. Glad we made time to visit this park. See more..

    Moro Bay State Park image
My daughter and I chose a cabin at this beautiful little state park based on reviews we had read, and were not at all disappointed! The staff was super friendly and helpful both before and during arrival, and the park and cabins were very well maintained. We felt secure walking the park and trail, and my daughter found an abundance of mussels that had washed ashore by our cabin. For any wondering, yes, with a very short walk you can fish at the shore of your cabin. Boat rentals are available right there at the marina for a very reasonable cost. The cabin was stocked with toilet paper, paper towels, coffee, sugar, creamer. Bring spices including salt and pepper if you plan to cook, but no need for dishes, towels, etc. We even saw deer right across from our cabin at night. This is the perfect spot if you are looking for seclusion, no crowds, and to spend a few days getting back to nature! See more..

Hobbs State Park Conservation Area image
I went on one of the new low impact hiking trails next to the visitors center. I like the trails around the area they are safe and well maintained. Since I am 71 and I walk alone it is important the area needs to be safe/ . After I left the trail I went to the visitors center and found the most beautiful hanging birds. I purchased 6 humming birds and 2 smaller birds as Christmas gifts. I only live about 10 miles from the park I plan on going again and getting a few more for friends and family. Great park to visit so glad I live close to it. See more..
  14. 4.5 Historic Washington State Park (137 reviews)
    - Washington State Park Court House and Blacksmith Shop

    Historic Washington State Park image
If you enjoy historical sites then this is the place to visit. The old Courthouse visitors center is full of historical information in each of the courthouse rooms, along with a great gift shop that features a local blacksmith’s wares. The beautiful double staircase that leads to the upstairs courtroom is just beautiful. They offer paid tours to some of the other historical buildings and houses of the town. They will also provide a map for a self guided walking tour. Due to time restraints, on our part, we chose not to take the paid tour, but instead we drove to the blacksmith shop where, at the time, the local blacksmith forged the legendary Bowie knife. The current blacksmith is there to answer questions and to show some of his blacksmithing skills. Very interesting and worthwhile to see. Also, close by, is the old 1914 Washington school house and the largest magnolia tree in the state. See more..

Great park filled with lots of history! There is no fee to enter the park or go through the museum. I recommend starting in the museum first which tells a history of the battle of Prairie Grove, then going on the walking tour. It is a nice paved trail with some historical buildings and views. There are benches throughout the trail. There is also a driving tour which will take you by some of the battle sites. See more..

    Daisy State Park image
We stayed from July 19 thru July 23, 2021. Wonderful campground. Great views of Lake Gleeson. Mostly level sites. Well maintained. Patrolled after dark. Very reasonable prices. Close to Hot Springs. However, the amenity that can make or break a campground visit is the cleanliness of the bath facilities - this campground is amazing! The showers and toilets we kept spotless. No fly specs, or other creepy crawlers underfoot. No musty odors. Just clean! I spoke with Ashley and Roger, they cleaned our area. They take great pride in doing a good job. It really shows. What great employees! The lady in the office was very helpful and gracious - we appreciate her, too! See more..

    Lake Dardanelle State Park image
My family and I (3 adults) visited Lake Dardanelle’s State Park! There were aquariums filled with fish found in the lake; catfish, shovel-head sturgeon, carp, big mouth bass, and many others! We picked up and took pictures with small turtles. There was an exhibit with bees and their hive. I saw bees with pollen on their legs...crawling into a honeycomb to deposit their precious cargo to become honey . The center showed 2 videos; one of the geological and ecological facts of the rivers and tributaries AND the second video showing tragic events dealing up to and during the “Trail of Tears”. OM Goodness, this Visitor Center is filled with facts and valuable history of this area! We are SO glad we stopped to see this place on our travels. We recommend it for you, too! See more..

    Woolly Hollow State Park image
Lovely park! Campsites in the main campground are well maintained, but not particularly shady. There are also a few campsites near the lake shore. I hiked the Huckleberry Trail, the Gold Creek Loop Trail, & the Cabin Trail. Gold Creek was just a dry creek bed, & the cabin itself is accessible from the same road as the Visitor Center, but both trails were quite lovely & most certainly worth the walk. Another gem in the Arkansas State Park system! See more..

  21. 4.5 Toltec Mounds Archaeological State Park (72 reviews)
    - Part of a day
Tuesday: Spent 1-2 hours State Parks
Toltec Mounds Archaeological State Park image
A National Historic Landmark, the Toltec Mounds site comprises one of the largest and most impressive archeological sites in the Lower Mississippi River Valley. Preserved here are Arkansas's tallest American Indian mounds. Three mounds remain where 18 once stood surrounded by an earthen embankment eight to ten feet in height, a portion of which is still visible today. These ancient earthworks are the remains of the late-Woodland thru early-Mississippian Period ceremonial and governmental complex which was inhabited here from A.D. 650 to 1050. The park visitor center features exhibits including artifacts from the site, an A/V theater, and archeological research laboratory. A meeting room and enclosed pavilion (with restrooms) that overlooks the mounds are available for rent. Take a self-guided tour on the 3/4-mile barrier-free trail or 1.6-mile turf trail, or a guided tour by reservation. Park interpreters lead guided tours and programs throughout the week by group reservation and at scheduled times on Saturdays. The archeological site/research station is cooperatively managed by Arkansas State Parks and the Arkansas Archeological Survey. The Toltec Research Station of the Arkansas Archeological Survey, a unit of the University of Arkansas system, and its laboratory are housed in the park visitor center. Toltec Mounds Archeological State Park is one of Arkansas's two archeological sites cooperatively managed by Arkansas State Parks and the Arkansas Archeological Survey as both a state park and an archeological research station. The other is Parkin Archeological State Park at Parkin. See more..
  22. 4.5 Withrow Springs State Park (59 reviews)
    - Nice Memorable Get-A-Way Conveniently Located.
    State Parks
    Withrow Springs State Park image
This park is conveniently located with a short drive to many attractions like Eureka Springs, War Eagle Mill and Caverns and the Buffalo River for floating and hiking. War Eagle Trail is the most scenic of the 3 park trails but a potion of the trail was closed during our visit (storm damaged trees I think). Still the portion that was open with awesome views of King's River and interesting rock formations. There was a lot of steps and grade but lots of places to rest. The visitor center was a bit small but offered a nice gift shop, snacks, and restrooms. The campsite was level with water, electric and sewer connections and lots of shade. We felt safe and had some privacy. The staff was super friendly and the park is well maintained. The swimming pool looked nice but was closed on the day of our visit. See more..

Park staff at the visitor's center, marina, and throughout the park were all very friendly and helpful. See more..

    - Stunning Hiking Along the River
    State Parks
    Cossatot River State Park image
I visited Cossatot River State Park over Memorial Day weekend to do some hiking. I stopped by the visitor center to get oriented. I ended driving a few miles down a gravel road to the main falls area. The road was relatively easy to navigate with 2-wheel drive. I spoke to a ranger and he told me about a nice hike from a pond near the Sand Bar Bridge to Ed Banks Bridge. It was about 1.5 miles each way and was moderately strenuous. The scenery was stunning! I crossed several side creeks with beautiful waterfalls. All the waterfalls were flowing strongly due to recent rains. I also hiked a portion of the trail south near Cossatot Falls which was very steep with overlooks of the falls and rapids. I loved hiking through this area and highly recommend visiting Cossatot River! See more..

    Lake Ouachita State Park image
Camped here for 3 nights in the Walk-in tent area, which is on a beautiful peninsula surrounded by the lake. The tent sites are not totally secluded. You are able to see and hear your neighbors.....if you had them. We ended up being one of two tents there:) The bathroom/shower house is not far away and totally blew me away. Hot water showers. Super clean and well kept. This park is beautiful and convenient to the Coleman Quartz Mines to go dig up some crystals. Recommend! See more..

We had the best getaway at Cane Creek State Park in Star City Arkansas. We stayed in the stationary RV Rental they have at the park. The RV Rental was roomy & comfortable. Amenities included a great shower, full size fridge. All the pots, pans, appliances & utensils needed for food preparation, all you need is the food! As far as the food goes Star City has a really nice Dollar General that offers a large selection of food, produce and anything else you may need. There is also a Piggly Wiggly grocery store with a large meat selection. Nice stove, grill & fire pit with grill grate over it. Very nice large wooden deck & outdoor area with plenty of seating. I always wanted to see the Louisiana Purchase. I was admiring. There were lots of history here and the trees were amazing. We were walking on a boardwalk and there were lots of trees. Everything was calm. Wow! The Louisiana Purchase happened in 1803, a deal between the USA and France. The US acquired 827000 square miles for 15 million. I read all the historic items. I liked the trees. We could not hear anything. This was worthwhile. This is a must! See more..

    Millwood State Park image
This is a hidden gem in the southwestern part of Arkansas. Two hour drive from Little Rock. We camped in site 70, right on the water with a view of water lilies and cypress trees that are just starting to change color. We camped on Sept 26-28, 2014. The weather was warm, but very comfortable. There are two hiking trails, a 1.5 mile along the shoreline and a 4 mile that goes into the hardwood forest. The trails are well blazed and very wide. The four mile is also maintained for bicycle use. The site we were on was large, a grill, fire ring, picnic table and electricity. The restrooms were very clean. There is a great playground that looks like it just got some updating. The grounds are very well maintained, the grass was cut nicely. The people are very helpful. My daughter did bird watching and the skies are really dark. We played on the swings under the stars. I would highly recommend this park. See more..

Want a little piece of paradise right on the water with immaculate kept grounds, clean, modern bathrooms and showers and private beautiful campsites? Well, if you love that peaceful environment on the water, his is the place to be! We camped in a 5th wheel on site #9 which was beautiful but I think next time we come we will reserve site 1, 4 or 14 as they are on peninsula points. Although we did not have wi fi and scetchy cell service it was well worth the solitude and beauy. The groundskeepers were working hard all day weed whipping and taking such great care of the grounds which reflected their pride in what they do! See more..
  36. 4.5 Jacksonport State Park (22 reviews)
    - Worth a visit

    Jacksonport State Park image
In the 1800s steamboats made Jacksonport a thriving river port. During the Civil War, the town was occupied by both Confederate and Union forces because of its crucial locale. Jacksonport became county seat in 1854, and constuction of a stately, two-story brick courthouse began in 1869. The town began to decline in the 1880s when bypassed by the railroad. The county seat was moved in 1891 to nearby Newport, and Jacksonport's stores, wharves and saloons soon vanished.Today, exhibits in the park's 1872 courthouse and programs by park interpreters share the story of this historic river port. Admission to the courthouse is free. The park offers 20 Class A campsites with water and electric hookups including 50 amp service at all sites, a swimming beach on the White River, standard pavilion, picnic sites, playground, and the Tunstall Riverwalk Trail to stroll alongside the river. The park is on Ark. 69 in Jacksonport (just three miles north of Newport). See more..

    Powhatan Historic State Park image
We enjoyed checking out the old buildings in the park and then going up to the visitors center at the old courthouse to take in the displays there. It was interesting and was kept cool (on a very hot day). The people in the courthouse building were great with answering any questions we had. One of the neat things was being able to see the supports for the swinging bridge in the park. The only recommendation would be to have a guide posted in the park area down below to answer questions, but we realize that not having one there could have been due to covid, lack of volunteers, or extreme heat on the day we visited. Regardless, we enjoyed our visit. Plan on an hour to view the park area and the courthouse. See more..

If you have friends or family members who seem uninterested in Native Amerian history in the Mid-South, they need to visit this outstanding new Arkansas state park museum. Logoly State Park image
Logoly State Park in south west Arkansas has a new designation as an environmental education park; and a whole host of resources to go along with it. The new visitor center has great hands on learning opportunities for all ages. We have gone hiking on our own and also with a homeschool group, and had some great luck for seeing the unique flora and fauna of the area. The trails are easy to hike; one meanders around the pond and another will take you back to the location of the mineral springs. The history of the area is really fascinating and worth taking the time to read the signs as you walk. The park interpreters (Devin, specifically) are incredibly knowledgeable and happy to help or answer any questions. Logoly is a great place to spend a day immersing yourself in nature. The park has a section of old growth forest and there are plenty of animals to see along the way so be sure to bring your camera! See more..

This small county park is off the beaten path but not difficult to find. There are picnic tables, bathrooms (we didn't go inside so I can't review those) and a mile long walking trail which does a loop to the St. Francis river. The trail takes you past a covered overlook by the river. There was a small Civil War battle fought here in 1863 and there are several signs with good info about the skirmish. Part of the trail is wheelchair accessible but the other part has stairs and is uneven in places with some vertical gain. Good place to picnic and take a walk. See more..

Marks's Mills Battlefield State Park image
Nice picnic spot off Hwy 8. Several picnic tables with grills and a covered pavilion. Lots of shade trees. Room for kids to run around. Mine found a geocache here. This is a small commemorative park, not exactly where the battle took place, but there are signs with information about the skirmish. The actual battle took place just a couple miles away near Marks Cemetery. At that location there are Unknown Soldier headstones, a lovely Nature Trail through the battle site, and more information about the Marks Mills and conflict. We were glad we decided to go down the dirt road to see all that. It was a surprising find. See more..

Herman Davis Memorial State Park image
This is Arkansas' smallest state park. It is dedicated to the memory of Pvt. Herman Davis--number 4 on Gen. John J. Pershing's list of the 100 greatest soldiers of WWI. A life-sized statue of Davis carved from carrara marble is located in front of an obelisk of the same material. The monument was dedicated in 1925. Davis died in 1923 from complications from a gas attack while he was in France. See more..
