    Hot Springs National Park image
The headquarters of the National Park is located inside the historic Fordyce Bathhouse, which is located on Central Avenue in downtown Hot Springs. It is a very beautiful building, which was opened to wealthy guests in 1915 and restored in 1989 to serve as a museum, commemorating its glorious past. The restoration seems very successful and a number of interesting and curious details are presented in the museum. Tours are available and we decided to take one. The guide did a great job, explaining many interesting aspects and at the end we also had the opportunity to taste the water, which contains several healthy minerals. Admission and tours are managed and conducted by the highly knowledgeably and friendly National Park Service team and both admittance and tours are absolutely free. Highly recommended. See more..

  11. 4.5 Devil's Den State Park (356 reviews)
    - great state park

    Devil's Den State Park image
We really enjoyed this park. It was the most crowded of all the AR state parks we visited but we were still able to keep our distance from others. We are on a mission to take my 85 year old father to all the national parks and in between we go to state parks. AR state parks are mostly all free unless you are camping or staying at one of their lodges/cabins. To spend a day hiking and having a picnic it is free. I love all the unique entry signs. This place has a pool that was closed I assumed other too early in season or COVID. The CCC has build some amazing things at this park like the dam that created such a great waterfall (the jewel of the park). This park had some amazing cabin that I would love to stay in one day. Overall a beautiful park. I wish it was a tad less busy. I assume when pool is running it is even more popular. Glad we made time to visit this park. See more..
  12. 5.0 Blanchard Springs Recreation Area (328 reviews)
    - Simply beautiful

    Blanchard Springs Recreation Area image
We went to several parts of the park. We saw the waterfall the water is so clear. The views going thru the spiral roads were very beautiful. They had a trading post along the way before you get into the park that had horseback riding, honey, jellies, syrup all made locally. They had several animals there almost like a little zoo I think they were rescues or something. The cavern in the park was still closed that was disappointing. Down by the tent camping area there is bathrooms and a shower area. Behind them is a beach type area of water you can put your feet in or sit beside it's a small rock type beach area. You will have to put a dollar to 3 dollars depending on how long you use the area just remember to pack one or two envelopes they were out when we went. They have a little slot to put it in up front of the bathroom area. See more..

  20. 4.5 Basin Spring Park (201 reviews)
    - A must-see when visiting NW Arkansas, but very crowded and busy
    Spent < 1 hour Parks
    Basin Spring Park image
Eureka Springs is a town that was built around mineral springs many years ago. It definitely retains its historic charm and downtown with lots of restaurants and shopping. It was worth the drive, but the town was super crowded, and it was beyond difficult to find parking on narrow streets built into the hillsides. We ended up in a paid parking lot by dumb luck. So just be aware of this when you go and be prepared to pay or walk a long way. We ate lunch on the balcony of the hotel, and the view of the town was wonderful. Afterwards we walked around the area of the springs, although the actual spring is now piped. See more..
  21. 5.0 Moro Bay State Park (199 reviews)
    - Excellent state park!
    State Parks
    Moro Bay State Park image
My daughter and I chose a cabin at this beautiful little state park based on reviews we had read, and were not at all disappointed! The staff was super friendly and helpful both before and during arrival, and the park and cabins were very well maintained. We felt secure walking the park and trail, and my daughter found an abundance of mussels that had washed ashore by our cabin. For any wondering, yes, with a very short walk you can fish at the shore of your cabin. Boat rentals are available right there at the marina for a very reasonable cost. The cabin was stocked with toilet paper, paper towels, coffee, sugar, creamer. Bring spices including salt and pepper if you plan to cook, but no need for dishes, towels, etc. We even saw deer right across from our cabin at night. This is the perfect spot if you are looking for seclusion, no crowds, and to spend a few days getting back to nature! See more..

I went on one of the new low impact hiking trails next to the visitors center. I like the trails around the area they are safe and well maintained. Since I am 71 and I walk alone it is important the area needs to be safe/ . After I left the trail I went to the visitors center and found the most beautiful hanging birds. I purchased 6 humming birds and 2 smaller birds as Christmas gifts. I only live about 10 miles from the park I plan on going again and getting a few more for friends and family. Great park to visit so glad I live close to it. See more..
  25. 4.5 Historic Washington State Park (137 reviews)
    - Washington State Park Court House and Blacksmith Shop

    Historic Washington State Park image
If you enjoy historical sites then this is the place to visit. The old Courthouse visitors center is full of historical information in each of the courthouse rooms, along with a great gift shop that features a local blacksmith’s wares. The beautiful double staircase that leads to the upstairs courtroom is just beautiful. They offer paid tours to some of the other historical buildings and houses of the town. They will also provide a map for a self guided walking tour. Due to time restraints, on our part, we chose not to take the paid tour, but instead we drove to the blacksmith shop where, at the time, the local blacksmith forged the legendary Bowie knife. The current blacksmith is there to answer questions and to show some of his blacksmithing skills. Very interesting and worthwhile to see. Also, close by, is the old 1914 Washington school house and the largest magnolia tree in the state. See more..

We stayed from July 19 thru July 23, 2021. Wonderful campground. Great views of Lake Gleeson. Mostly level sites. Well maintained. Patrolled after dark. Very reasonable prices. Close to Hot Springs. However, the amenity that can make or break a campground visit is the cleanliness of the bath facilities - this campground is amazing! The showers and toilets we kept spotless. No fly specs, or other creepy crawlers underfoot. No musty odors. Just clean! I spoke with Ashley and Roger, they cleaned our area. They take great pride in doing a good job. It really shows. Lake Dardanelle State Park image
My family and I (3 adults) visited Lake Dardanelle’s State Park! There were aquariums filled with fish found in the lake; catfish, shovel-head sturgeon, carp, big mouth bass, and many others! We picked up and took pictures with small turtles. There was an exhibit with bees and their hive. I saw bees with pollen on their legs...crawling into a honeycomb to deposit their precious cargo to become honey . The center showed 2 videos; one of the geological and ecological facts of the rivers and tributaries AND the second video showing tragic events dealing up to and during the “Trail of Tears”. OM Goodness, this Visitor Center is filled with facts and valuable history of this area! We are SO glad we stopped to see this place on our travels. We recommend it for you, too! See more..

Lovely park! Campsites in the main campground are well maintained, but not particularly shady. There are also a few campsites near the lake shore. I hiked the Huckleberry Trail, the Gold Creek Loop Trail, & the Cabin Trail. Gold Creek was just a dry creek bed, & the cabin itself is accessible from the same road as the Visitor Center, but both trails were quite lovely & most certainly worth the walk. Another gem in the Arkansas State Park system! See more..

Toltec Mounds Archaeological State Park image
A National Historic Landmark, the Toltec Mounds site comprises one of the largest and most impressive archeological sites in the Lower Mississippi River Valley. Preserved here are Arkansas's tallest American Indian mounds. Three mounds remain where 18 once stood surrounded by an earthen embankment eight to ten feet in height, a portion of which is still visible today. These ancient earthworks are the remains of the late-Woodland thru early-Mississippian Period ceremonial and governmental complex which was inhabited here from A.D. 650 to 1050. The park visitor center features exhibits including artifacts from the site, an A/V theater, and archeological research laboratory. A meeting room and enclosed pavilion (with restrooms) that overlooks the mounds are available for rent. Take a self-guided tour on the 3/4-mile barrier-free trail or 1.6-mile turf trail, or a guided tour by reservation. Park interpreters lead guided tours and programs throughout the week by group reservation and at scheduled times on Saturdays. The archeological site/research station is cooperatively managed by Arkansas State Parks and the Arkansas Archeological Survey. The Toltec Research Station of the Arkansas Archeological Survey, a unit of the University of Arkansas system, and its laboratory are housed in the park visitor center. Toltec Mounds Archeological State Park is one of Arkansas's two archeological sites cooperatively managed by Arkansas State Parks and the Arkansas Archeological Survey as both a state park and an archeological research station. War Eagle Trail is the most scenic of the 3 park trails but a potion of the trail was closed during our visit (storm damaged trees I think). Still the portion that was open with awesome views of King's River and interesting rock formations. There was a lot of steps and grade but lots of places to rest. The visitor center was a bit small but offered a nice gift shop, snacks, and restrooms. The campsite was level with water, electric and sewer connections and lots of shade. Cadron Settlement Park image
On one of the many branches of the Trail of Tears, this is one of the more sobering spots you'll ever visit. The sadness is only enhanced by the natural beauty. There is a mass grave of Cherokee who died here while being forced to move from South Carolina to Oklahoma, but who never made it. Their names (when known) are listed on a large brass plaque. Many were children. The spot exists because Indians being transported by the water route of the Trail, using the Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas Rivers, had to go ashore here to await further movement inland, as the Arkansas above this point was at that time too shallow to navigate. There is a reconstruction of an ancient fort at the site too, fun to explore for those too young or too hardened to appreciate the tragedy of the location. See more..

    Cossatot River State Park image
I visited Cossatot River State Park over Memorial Day weekend to do some hiking. I stopped by the visitor center to get oriented. I ended driving a few miles down a gravel road to the main falls area. The road was relatively easy to navigate with 2-wheel drive. I spoke to a ranger and he told me about a nice hike from a pond near the Sand Bar Bridge to Ed Banks Bridge. It was about 1.5 miles each way and was moderately strenuous. The scenery was stunning! I crossed several side creeks with beautiful waterfalls. All the waterfalls were flowing strongly due to recent rains. I also hiked a portion of the trail south near Cossatot Falls which was very steep with overlooks of the falls and rapids. I loved hiking through this area and highly recommend visiting Cossatot River! See more..

Camped here for 3 nights in the Walk-in tent area, which is on a beautiful peninsula surrounded by the lake. The tent sites are not totally secluded. You are able to see and hear your neighbors.....if you had them. We ended up being one of two tents there:) The bathroom/shower house is not far away and totally blew me away. Hot water showers. Super clean and well kept. This park is beautiful and convenient to the Coleman Quartz Mines to go dig up some crystals. Recommend! See more..

I’m a full-time RVer and was looking for a good place to walk my two pups. The South Arkansas Arboretum is a gem! So many paved paths to walk, lots of benches to sit and relax, and plenty of shade. Very well maintained. Plenty of parking. A beautiful place to wander! See more..
