Whenever I am in the an area that has a National Cemetery I try and stop and pay my respects to the heroes who payed the price for our Freedom. The Fort Smith National Cemetery is located close to the Fort Smith National Historical Site and is the final resting place of more than 13,000 veterans, including more than a 1,000 unknown veterans from both sides of the Civil War. One of the more notable people resting here is Judge Isaac Parker who was known as The Hanging Judge. The Fort Smith National Cemetery is a somber and peaceful place that invites you to reflect on the price of Freedom.See more..

So many laid in reat. Row upon row of white marble headstones. So many Civil War unknowns. Well taken care of grounds. It was an honor to visit. See more..
A place of reflection for these valiant men of the lost "War for Southern Independence". The most of these graves are from a battle 150 years ago. The "Battle of Helena" occurred July 4th 1863 when Confederate forces attempted to gain control of the Union stronghold at Helena. The Union forces had 3 batteries of artillery on the high ground, as well as, a gunboat controlling all traffic moving along the Mississippi River. 120+ fallen Confederate soldiers of that battle are buried here. Other Confederate soldiers, including General Cleburne were buried here later. On a personal note: My Great, Grandfather is buried here in an Unknown Confederate grave, a casualty of that 1863 battle.See more..
I play the fiddle/violin and I go over to the site periodically and play Civil War tunes for the boys...even though they aren't up and running... I think they can hear my songs and probably enjoy hearing them. They make a wonderful audiance...none of them have complained yet. It's a good place for me to get some practice time.See more..
5.0Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery at North Little Rock(5 reviews) - Seriously impressed Tuesday: 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Cemeteries We were driving past, had no clue it was there. I'm Ex-British Army and my wife Ex-US Army so we pulled in. The time, care, construction and design of this peaceful place is exemplary. The place is actually stunning and the state should be proud of it. Death knows no nation, faith or race, as to the field of battle is an awful place and it is why old enemies often find the rare piece of middle ground of comradery in later years, because no one but them had such experiences they can truly share with anyone else. It was an honour to visit this place, it has feeling.See more..
