beautiful and well maintained grounds, clean restrooms and showers, even a small playground - it was a wonderful stay. we had our 2 small boys with us and we were right next to the creek, it was absolutely perfect. the water wasn't deep and we were able to walk through the creek and look at rocks as a family in the evening heat. I was worried about mosquitos but we didn't have a problem at all! I would absolutely recommend staying here. they also have cabins, this was one of the nicest campgrounds and facilities we have ever visited, it was just beautiful. 5 stars all the way. See more..

  6. 4.5 Bona Dea Trails & Sanctuary (10 reviews)
    - Beautiful trail system but don’t go just for the alligators
Biking Trails • Nature & Wildlife Areas
Bona Dea Trails & Sanctuary image
We were in town getting work done on our ATV and decided to check out the area while we waited. It was nice that everything around town is only about 15 minutes away. We saw reviews that this place had alligators so we thought we would check it out. Turns out that’s a bit deceiving. It’s not like they are just out walking around and you can easily go see them any time. Apparently people say they are back in the pond which is probably a mile walk there and back. The pond is mostly fenced off and grown up high with weeds so unless you want to hike through the weeds and possibly lose a leg to the alligator that’s supposedly back there then you probably won’t see anything. The trails are beautiful though and surrounded with huge trees and there were tons of people out riding bikes, running & walking. There are also CrossFit type stations where you can stop and do pushups/sit-ups/jumps/etc. It’s definitely a great place. See more..

  8. 5.0 Tohi Nature Trail (2 reviews)
    - Lovely nature walk
Spent < 1 hour Biking Trails • Hiking Trails • Jogging Paths & Tracks
The Tohi Nature Trail is a very short (less than a mile), paved loop in Cherokee Village. It's a really nice place to go for a walk to just be in nature, and see plants and wildlife. And someone even made some rock art, so if you look carefully you'll find some cure surprises. The address is approximate - I turned onto a random road to find a place to pull the car over and have a snack, and this trail was there; I didn't think to write down an address at the time and it's not listed online anywhere so I couldn't find a good address for it. 9. 5.0 Nix Creek Trail (2 reviews)
    - Excellent Trail
Spent < 1 hour Biking Trails • Hiking Trails
    Nix Creek Trail image
Nix Creek trail cuts a north-south path for a relatively flat and straight 2.4 miles alongside its namesake waterway in Texarkana, Arkansas. The trail is asphalt from beginning to end and is quite smooth. It weaves through neighborhoods and along school grounds. Popular with runners because of its well marked mileage points and long straight aways. Minimal lighting after dark. See more..

  11. 4.0 Big Fork Trail (1 review)
    - Not such a tough trail, bit difficult to find
    Biking Trails
On the parks website, you're advised to take Shady Lake Road to get to the trailhead - except that the road is blocked off by a barrier and there is a "Dead End" sign. If you're driving from Athens, you have to take the previous road - Goat Ranch Road, which is a track that is a bit tricky to navigate if you're in a regular car. Anyway, the trailhead is nicely marked when you get to it and, if you follow the white marks on the trees, the trail itself is fairly easy to spot. Some parts were overgrown and there were some monster spider's webs across the path but, otherwise, the trail was enjoyable. It's not as tough as the website claims, with very few steep parts but, equally, not many lookout vistas either. Good for an energetic hike, not so much if you're looking for an amazing view as a reward. See more..
  12. 5.0 City Lake Park (1 review)
    - Hidden gem off the beaten path
Biking Trails • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails
    City Lake Park image
I discovered this place last weeI and was surprised it wasn’t on TripAdvisor. I had to wonder if it is one of those places where locals don’t want lots of people to find out so they get to keep it to themselves. :-) We did a 2 mile hike around green, blue and black rated trails for mountain bikes. It was sunny but we hardly noticed because of how shaded most of it was. Once you park you have to go across a field on a paved trail to get to the best part. Before you get to the steeper let’s of the trail, you have to cross a street where some people park on the side of the road. I highly recommend it to the mountain bikers because of some ramps they have built. Very very cool. See more..
  13. 4.0 Greenbrier River Trail (1 review)
    - Winter hike
    Biking Trails
As part of weekend at the G, my wife and I went off the board and did a short hike at the southern end of the trail. A little icy in spots made it just a bit of a workout. A little boring as hiking trails go (though still beautiful), but we are definitely interested and coming back to do it on our cross bikes. Prettier than the c and o along the Potomac for sure See more..
