4.5Miss Laura's Visitor Center(183 reviews) - Great piece of Fort Smith history! Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Visitor Centers
Our Visitor Center, "Miss Laura's Social Club," is located inside of Fort Smith's historic downtown area and sits alongside the Arkansas River. Out of seven "row houses" that lined Fort Smith's Old West red light district, Miss Laura's is the only house of ill-repute that stood the test of time. Now, it is the only former bordello on the National Register of Historic Places, and it has been fully restored to its original grandeur. Make Miss Laura's your first stop and we’ll give you a tour of this Victorian mansion that has become a prominent symbol of this once boisterous border town's very colorful past!See more..

I stopped in because I couldn't figure out where to park for Clinton's Childhood Home (on West Division St opposite a brick home used as the entry point for guided tour). The sweetest lady greeted me and explained where to park. She invited me to look around the Visitor Center which I did. Many visitor centers are in a refurbished building as is this one, a converted train station, but this was not your typical Visitor Center with maps and pamphlets. This one had a lot of Clinton exhibits as well as a short film. I would recommend everyone to check out this place before touring his home. TIP: The restaurant across the street, Tailgaters Burger Company, is ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC if you're looking for a place to eat. Try the Boom Sauce, if hesitant, get it on the side.See more..
While traveling across the country, my wife and I had the good fortune to stop at this location. We were very impressed with how clean it was, including the restrooms, and how much information/brochures they had on hand for travelers. The staff were all friendly and very knowledgeable. We even managed to pick up a few nice souvenirs as remembrances of our trip. Even if you just want to get out of your vehicle to stretch your legs and walk around, this is a perfect place to do so.See more..
5.0Calico Rock Museum & Visitor Center(29 reviews) - Clean, well organized museum and gift shop Spent 1-2 hours Visitor Centers • History Museums
Nice, clean museum with wonderful exhibits and a beautiful gift shop. Self guided tour through the museum takes about an hour for those that read some, but not all of the information. We enjoyed learning about the history of the area from the displays , building set ups, and plaques. The buildings in this town are historic and you can find out more information about them in the Visitor's Center section of the building. Also pick up information about East Calico/Peppersauce Ghost Town and Calico Rock Bluff.See more..
We stopped here when we got to town and told the woman we only had 1 day there. She was so pleasant and informative. Got a town map out and told us where free parking was, what each building on bathhouse row was and what else would be good to see. She was so pleasant and helpful, just what you need at a visitor center. See more..

while visiting the area we stopped to take a look, the young lady working for the downtown tourist association welcomed us in and gave us a private tour. They took an old run down building and are making it new again. Over $600,000 has been spent so far to renovate the 1920 bus station. They said they hosted an antique bus show last year and plan on doing another one in 2014 or 2015. This bus station has the setup like it was in the 20's before segregation to show how things were in the south before. the stop is still a work in process but very worth the stop, and also take a look at what they are doing down town. 9/23/13See more..

4.5Arkansas Welcome Center(11 reviews) - Honestly the best welcome center I have ever been to Spent < 1 hour Visitor Centers
We just stopped to use the rest rooms. However, we quickly noticed how nice this place was. It was very nicely decorated for Christmas, and I mean NICELY!. They also had free coffee and hot chocolate. The brochures and information were very nicely displayed, and there a bunch. They even had a very nice fireplace with rocking chairs around it. This was a very pleasant surprise.See more..

We wanted to see the largest tree in the State of Arkansas and we started our journey at the visitor's center - the fellow working that day was very helpful and if we hadn't have had his directions, we would have not found the big bald cypress. It's worth the hike of about a mile to see the tree and even though we walked in during mosquito season, we had no problems.See more..
