    Petit Jean 2023
Cedar Falls!!! It has rained so much lately, that it made for a spectacular showing at the fall!!! The other trails were great, a little muddy, but still some great hiking. Weather was perfection! Cabin was perfection!!! Sunset at the lookout, also perfection! If its a day trip or a weekend of camping, Petite Jean is always worth the trip!!

    Go in Spring
We’ve been here twice once in April and once in October. I would go in spring as the gushing waterfall of Spring is a trickle in the Fall. That being said, the view from the wonderful lodge is spectacular any time of year. One thing I’ve noticed is variation from state to state in terms of hikes being defined as easy, moderate or strenuous. Arkansas is on the easy side. The waterfall hike is classed as “strenuous” but if it were in North Carolina or South Dakota it would be classed as easy. The biggest challenge we had was that it had just rained so the stone steps were slick, but if dry it would be no problem. The signs say “only fit people” should try it but we are plump 40 somethings and a much larger gentleman in his 60s handled it without any issue. There’s a really cool echo effect down by the waterfall. The campsite is very nice and the lodge is really top notch. I’d say stay two nights here and check out Magazine or Mount Nebo for a third night.
