  1. 4.5 Cathedral De Santiago de Compostela (10.7k reviews)
    - Museum and rooftop tour
Spent More than 3 hours Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings • Religious Sites
Cathedral De Santiago de Compostela image
The cathedral is nice, it reminds of other big cathedrals for example in Leon, Burgos, Toledo. I am used to Spanish cathedrals. The entrance is free but I think it is worth it to pay for the museum and the tour of the rooftop (requires a bit good conditions because the rooftop has some steep stairs). I paid 10 euro per person and enjoyed. The museum is really big and there is a lot to see, whereas the rooftop tour lasts about one hour and it is guided so you get nice information about the construction of the cathedral and can also ask questions. Overall a nice experience! See more..

    - Dont compate it. Enjoy it.
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Praza de María Pita image
Very nice little square with town hall. If you compare it to Madrid, Barcelona, Paris or London is a modest place. But don't compare it enjoy it. But enjoy it after 10 because in Spain life starts after nightfall. When the square gets illuminated it looks like people get attracted to it. Drink a few glasses of Spanish wine in some of the dozen restaurants on the square. See more..
  7. 4.5 Santiago de Compostela. Casco Historico (2.690 reviews)
    - So Many Things To See
Spent More than 3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
Santiago de Compostela. Casco Historico image
The old town and historic centre of Santiago is one of the world's most beautiful urban areas. It's an amazingly compact medieval district with Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque buildings. The oldest buildings and monuments are clustered around the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela with its tomb of St James. Thanks to royal patronage and the importance of the cathedral as a pilgrimage site, many of the churches and buildings are richly adorned with enough artefacts to fill a couple of days. See more..
  8. 4.5 Botafumeiro (2.671 reviews)
    - Cathedral Censor
Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Botafumeiro image
The original Botafumeiro, dating to 1851, is the largest censor in the world. When full, it weighs in at a mere 150 pounds, is over 5 feet in height, and has a golden sheen. Another large silver-colored censor or thurible (called “La Alcachofa”) dates to 1971. The censor is attached to a rope hung from a pulley mechanism in the dome on the roof of the church. Eight red-robed tiraboleiros pull the ropes and bring it into a swinging motion almost to the roof of the side naves reaching speeds of 45 mph and dispensing thick clouds of incense. The Botafumeiro is normally only swung on Holy Days such as Christmas and Easter and Pilgrim’s Masses during Jubilee years. I’d already attended two Masses and while it hung over the altar, it wasn’t used. Much to my delight and amazement, the Botafumeiro was swung at the conclusion of the final Sunday Mass I attended. While Mass is a solemn event, the audience became downright gleeful watching this performance! Pictures don’t do it justice. See more..
  9. 4.5 Muralla Romana de Lugo (2.204 reviews)
    - Lugo's claim to fame (well deserved)
Historic Sites • Ancient Ruins • Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Muralla Romana de Lugo image
These Roman walls still stand after more than 1,700 years. Originally, there were 10 gates and 85 towers (of which 71 remain intact). Getting up on top of the walls for a walk is not difficult and the reward is the opportunity to experience Lugo's glory days. This is a National Monument and a World Heritage Site. On the Iberian Peninsula, it is the best preserved and relatively intact Roman wall. When walking, be certain to look for the Medieval sculptural elements of Knights on horseback and all other exceptional pieces while exploring the walls. See more..

  15. 4.5 Casco antiguo de Pontevedra (1.196 reviews)
    - Wonderful space to be walking for days
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Casco antiguo de Pontevedra image
The old town of Pontevedra has so many monuments, squares, restaurants and shops that it takes several days to cover it It is one of the best preserved historical centers in all of Galicia. It is also declared a Historic-Artistic Site, and is undoubtedly the stone witness of the medieval splendor that the city lived through. Here, the cliché is made that the best way to discover a place is by walking through its streets, squares and most emblematic places and immersing yourself fully in its culture, and also in its history. I recommend staying in a central hotel and going out every day for breakfast or dinner in one of its many places, especially when the weather is good. Do not forget to visit the central market where you can see, taste and buy any product from Galicia See more..

It is a sand beach with white sand, so it is a very nice place, which you see when arrive to the island (the little port is close to this beach). We see it, when we began a hike around all main island, and when we finished, we went to this beach to relax, drink a glass of wine and bath. It was very good! 19. 4.5 Los Horreos de Combarro (999 reviews)
    - Horreos are private
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Los Horreos de Combarro image
Very nice town, worth a visit. We went by bus from Pontevedra. The bus does not run so often but it is fast and not complicated, but it is often not punctual. The horreos are very interesting but they are often in the backyard of restaurants or private houses making it hard to photograph them. The best photo is the one from the beach with the city on the background. The historical center is small and you can see it all quite fast. Then, you can walk further and there will be a more modern part of the town by the water too. See more..

    - A lovely place to walk and enjoy the views
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Avenida da Mariña image
Avenida de la Marina is one of the most traditional streets in La Coruna. The galleries that line this street are one of the most famous sights of the city and one of the largest glass complexes in the world. The complex was built in two phases when the old walls were demolished. The first in 1870 and 1876 and the second in 1879 and 1884. This glazed scenography of the galleries has given La Coruna the name of the Crystal City. It is very relaxing place with good ambiance and scenic view. And also one of the liveliest areas of the city with many restaurants, bars and street cafes. See more..

I really recommend the walk from Ribadeo center to Illa Pancha through the Estrada do Faro. It is really nice, all paved with beautiful views along the coast. It took me around 40 minutes one way and I really enjoyed it. The island itself is very small and there is only this hotel with a bar/restaurant and the lighthouse but the best are the views from the other side to it. See more..

This large, lovely park borders the old town and was only a short stroll from my hotel. Another highlight – the delightfully contemporary sculpture of As Duas Marias. See more..
  28. 4.5 Hostal de los Reyes Catolicos (718 reviews)

Hostal de los Reyes Catolicos image
Originally a hostel and hospital for pilgrims at the very end of the Way of St James, this building is now a hotel. Thats to the royal patronage of Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand, the building is richly adorned. Masons, engineers, and sculptors from all over Europe helped to create this work of Plateresque architecture. The most impressive aspect of the exterior is the facade to the entrance with the Plateresque arch and Gothic border, decorated with the apostles, the evangelists, the figures of Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand on either side of the door. An amazing landmark in Plaza del Obradoiro. See more..
  29. 4.5 Santuario da Virxe da Barca (716 reviews)
    - The Virgin of the Boat
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
Santuario da Virxe da Barca image
This Roman Catholic Church was founded in the 17th century but has a long religious history before that. The church was rebuilt in 2015 after a devastating 2013 fire. It is dedicated to the Virgin of the Boat and reflects a nautical décor that is delightfully refreshing. The location is spectacular, directly on the coast facing the sea and near the lighthouse. Legend says this is the place where the Virgin Mary arrived in a stone boat to encourage Saint James in his evangelization efforts. Nearby are ‘magical’ stones with healing properties, said to be the remnants of the Virgin’s boat. Muxía is also one of the final destinations for pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago, the Way of Saint James. Marker zero is located near the A Ferida monument. I visited with Tour Galicia. See more..

  31. 4.5 Catedral de Ourense (654 reviews)
    - Undiscovered gem
    Wednesday: 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Churches & Cathedrals
    Catedral de Ourense image
We came here during our recent short trip to Ourense. We've seen a great many cathedrals in Spain and elsewhere and to be honest, it takes a lot to impress us. But this is a nice little cathedral with a marvellous portico that lets you see what the one in Santiago would have looked like many centuries ago. The portico is still coloured and while it may be a copy, it's still great in its own right. You can look at it for hours and still find new things to see. The reredos is also magnificent and there are interesting side chapels too. I suspect that many people who think that the cathedral in Santiago is better and in some ways, maybe it is, but this one has a particular quiet charm that makes it more appealing. See more..
  32. 4.5 Fervenza de Ézaro (625 reviews)
    - Scenic Waterfall
    Spent 1-2 hours Waterfalls
    Fervenza de Ézaro image
A full day tour of Finisterre and the Costa da Morte with Tour Galicia included a visit at this scenic waterfall located on the Xallas River. It’s visible from the small marina, but you can follow a wooden walkway to the foot of the falls for a close-up view (less scenic is the nearby power plant). Multiple streams of water cascade over sculpted rock formations and hillside. I’m guessing the waterflow is controlled at the upstream reservoir, so perhaps the water flow fluctuates. What I saw is picturesque and a nice addition to the day’s itinerary for a short stop. See more..
  33. 4.5 Monasterio de San Martin Pinario (619 reviews)
    - Jaw droppingly amazing
    Architectural Buildings
Monasterio de San Martin Pinario image
The front doors are closed. Facing the front of the church turn left and then walk towards the church and turn left to go around down the alley. You’ll get to the museum entrance. Enter the museum and pay 5 euros or 4 for pilgrims. Enter the museum to get to this stunning church. I am amazed it wasn’t packed with tourists. This church is jaw droppingly beautiful. Then to find the museum - find the WC toilets and on the opposite side you’ll see a sign that says Continue. Walk up those stairs to see the museum. You can walk to the top of the church and look down on the altar as well. This church is well worth the visit, and again, I am stunned it wasn’t packed with tourists. All I can guess is that folks haven’t figured out they can get to the church through the museum entrance. See more..
  34. 4.5 Museo do Pobo Galego (591 reviews)
    - Very rich and diverse collection
Wednesday: 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums
    Museo do Pobo Galego image
The Museum of Galician People was created in 1976 with the objectives of research and the preservation, dissemination, defence and promotion of Galician culture in all areas, and, specifically, to create and develop a museum at the service of these goals. The first rooms were opened in 1977. The Museum has permanent galleries dedicated to the sea, the trades, the land, el costume, the music, al habitat and architecture, the society and the press and printing. The criterion used in its creation aims to provide an overall view of all the different facets that define the culture of Galicia. Far from enclosing this complex cultural phenomenon within the physical realm of the museum, the aim is to provide a compendium of the diversity of Galicia which can serve as a reference for evaluating the variety of forms within the group and to encourage interest in first-hand knowledge and the search for future alternatives. Praia do Vao image
As natives to Vigo as we are, we enjoy coming to this marvellous beach, which is only 4 miles from the city centre and also reachable by bus (1.32€ / one way ticket; all day until 23.00h). You can lie under the sun or get your place under the near shady pine trees. There are some summer season bars where you can get some treats and beverages (coke, hot coffee, sodas, ...) amd relax while the (very) late sun sets on the magnificent Cíes Islands, which we hope to be chosen as World Heritage soon. At the end of the day, maybe you can enjoy a performance of what the rich Roman family that dwelt on the area lived like. Even if you miss that, don't forget to visit the Villa deToralla museum. 37. 4.5 Tui Cathedral (564 reviews)
    - Castle Cathedral
    Churches & Cathedrals
    Tui Cathedral image
The sheer size of the Roman Catholic Tui Cathedral is best appreciated from a distance. We got our best overall view as we followed the Camino Português across the bridge that connects Portugal and Spain. Perched on a hill, the town below sits in the cathedral’s shadow. The walk to the cathedral is all uphill but more than worth the effort. The building itself is castle-like, adorned with battlements, towers, and fortifications. Construction started in 1120, the cathedral was consecrated in 1225, the main chapel located in the choir completed in 1699, with of course other changes throughout the centuries. Incredible history! You need at least an hour here. Do not miss the panoramic view from the terrace mirador; also climb the steps to the roof where you can walk the walls. See more..

Entrance is €2 per person so it would be worth it even if it were empty walls. But it's not just empty walls, it's an archeology museum with quite a few things to see and the views are really nice. If you're here, don't think about it, just go in. Recommendation to management: all the writings are in Galician and Spanish only. It would be great to have them in English as well so that us international visitors can learn about your history too. Well worth the drive up from Viveiro; follow the signs right to the top until you pass a couple of bars and then keep going till you reach the very top & the road starts to go back down. Be sure to see the view from the front of the little chapel - it is spectacular, a full 180degrees panorama of the mountains, the sea and the town below. Canon del Sil is the zone, where there is the canyon of Sil River, in Ourense Province, in Galicia Region, in the North of Spain. It is a place, where you can see some wonderful lookouts to see the river, nature, forests l, pathwalks, some monasteries converted in hotels, some churches in ruins or other religious buildings. Really, a zone to go by car and enjoy one or some days. We came here with friends and see the Monastery of San Esteve de Ribas de Sil (a monastery reconverted in a hotel), Monastery of San Pedro de Rocas and Monastery of Santa Cristina (both in ruins, really romantic ruins), a town called Castro Caldelas near the canyon, or some lookouts like Das Escadas, Vilouxe, Columna (wonderful views!), Cabezas or Los Balcones de Madrid. Really a lovely place to go with the family or friends! A top in the region! Lookouts
    Mirador Ezaro image
The Mirador Ezaro is a platform on a mountain from which you have a superb view over the ocean, being relatively close to cape Finisterre, the Corcubion Bay and the Carnota beach. We used it as a starting point for a 16 km long hiking route that includes the nearby waterfall “Cascada do Rio Xallas/ Ezaro”, then follows the beach for a while before hiking up to the mountain Monte Pinto, and coming back to the Mirador Ezaro after passig the hydropower station dam. If you have time you should at least have a look at the waterfall too; if you do not want to walk from the mirador, you can park a little further down in the village Ezaro. The waterfall’s river is called Xallas. Mind that the weather on this coast can be very chilly and windy. It is best to visit on a day with little/no wind and without rain. We went there in February and the wind was amazing! See more..

    Plaza de Fefinans image
Plaza de Fefiñans is a big square, where is Pazo de Fefiñans (a big palace/castle) located in Cambados, a town in Galicia Region, in the North of Spain. It was built in the 16th Century in the entrance of the house, nowadays a wine cellar, and here there is the church of San Benito and some other important stone buildings like the tower of the palace. A very nice full complex. Really interesting architecture and very curious square. Very nice a visit of the square, the church and a guided visit of the palace. - Very beautiful main square of Ourense

    Plaza Mayor image
Plaza Mayor is the Main Square of Ourense, the main city in the province, in Galicia Region, in the North of Spain. The main square is the heart of the old town, where all people go. Also, it is a very nice square, where you can see the town hall (Casa do Concello) or some other buildings. Close to the square, there is the Cathedral. A very nice place to walk, see people, eat or drink something in any bar or only enjoy the place. Curiosity: it is an uneven irregular square.
