Castle of San Anton, Galicia, Spain

4.5 (536 reviews) Monday: Spent 1-2 hours Ranking #7 in Province of A Coruna Speciality Museums

Nice

Entrance is €2 per person so it would be worth it even if it were empty walls. But it's not just empty walls, it's an archeology museum with quite a few things to see and the views are really nice. If you're here, don't think about it, just go in. Recommendation to management: all the writings are in Galician and Spanish only. It would be great to have them in English as well so that us international visitors can learn about your history too.

    Went for the views
The castle is very easy to visit and you can finish your visit in 30 minutes maximum as there is not much to see, but the entrance costs only 2 euro so it is quite cheap. For me, the main motivation for the visit were the views from above the castle so for this, it was worth it. Downstairs, you can see some old column ruins etc.

Merits the visit but no English
Neat visit, I looked at everything. Couldn't read much as there is no English. I understand there is an audio guide, but for whatever reason it was unavailable (Covid? Staff didn't speak English, so I don't know). I suspect even with the audio guide, since only a small fraction of exhibits were numbered, that most content would not be translated. Aside from the structure itself, the highlight for me was the exhibit dealing with the Tower of Hercules and artifacts from that area. Really wonderful, well-curated collection, just a shame there wasn't English to make it more easily accessible.
