Having seen the average reviews on here I wasn't that inclined to visit this museum. But having just visited the Rathaus it was raining so we popped in. The museum is great! There is no English interpretation so if you don't speak German you should get the audio guide from the shop. The audio guide made the experience! We only managed to do the natural history, archaeology and the vivarium (aquarium with lizards and frogs thrown in, not literally - they have dry cages!). I would really recommend this musuem if you have a spare couple of hours. The cafe also did a really nice lunch.See more..

4.0Bomann Museum(78 reviews) - Nice education Sunday: 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM History Museums
Larger than expected with many floors and rooms to turn into. The presentations of the local community are diverse and interesting, because of many photographs, reconstructions and education tools. Especially the Biedermeier section is good. There is a cafe outside and of course a small shop. The covid regulations are strict. Entrance is free on Saturday after 13 hrs. There is also access to the modern art collection and light art of the museum nextdoor.See more..
4.5Bergwerksmuseum Grube Samson(52 reviews) - historic silver mine in Sankt Andreasberg Sunday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums • History Museums
We had a very interesting self-guided tour due to pandemic limitations. Very fascinating place indeed. It played the significant part in the history of mining in the Harz region. Especially fascinating is the man engine the system of reciprocating ladders. It is one of the oldest man engines in the world and still working!See more..
4.0Watt Welten(48 reviews) - Unmissable experience for a rainy non - beach day. Sunday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Natural History Museums
It is so well worth visiting this place. We did it when it rained. Cycled there, arrived about 2 in the afternoon and they almost threw us out at 5. We could have stayed longer. The children are 9, 7 and 5 and all really enjoyed it at their own level and learned so much. Everything about this unique Wattenmeer habitat is covered, bird calls, animals, sea world, did you know that a lobster has two different claws ? You are allowed to put your hand into one basin and stroke the crabs. Loads of interaction on all topic tables. Upstairs also worth taking in, perhaps more for the dads and older children. We tried to climb the Kornweihe = Hen Harrier, endangered in Germany, to get into her belly, but that is not for the faint hearted. Don't miss out on this place, it is so recommended. I clicked " young children " but would have also clicked " teens " if it gave more options. Also the length of visit, as you can see, we stayed 3 hours and were not bored.See more..

4.5Bunting Teamuseum(31 reviews) - Wohin mit dem von weit her angereisten Besuch Sunday: Speciality Museums • History Museums
The Bünting Tea Museum was founded in 2001 with the aim of bringing the historical and social significance of East Frisian tea culture to life. For the Bünting Group of Companies, the Tea Museum expresses its solidarity with the values and traditions of the region as well as its own history. For the museum, a location with special significance was logically chosen: in the middle of the beautiful historic old town of Leers. Just two houses down - at Brunnenstraße 37 - Johann Bünting founded his small grocery store in 1806. The fine offer of tea, coffee, tobacco and spices formed the foundation for later development into a major trading company.See more..
4.0Sandsteinmuseum(22 reviews) - Small, friendly and interesting local museum Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums • Natural History Museums • History Museums
The museum is not very large but I didn't pay anything to get in (it was at a local festival time- perhaps normally a ticket price might apply- I don't know...). The staff were very friendly and it was nice to see exhibits of sandstone which is an important aspect of local life. It would have been nice to have some information in the English languageSee more..

4.0Braunschweigisches Landesmuseum(22 reviews) - A little boring Sunday: 10:00 AM - 5:30 PM Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums • Children's Museums • History Museums
The Landesmuseum is set in the heart of Braunschweig and is located in a pedestrian only zone. The building is beautiful and the architecture is clean and simple. The museum mainly archives the local history of Braunschweig so it is not very big. There are a lot of articles from the world war 2 period. Some of them include German propaganda posters and items from the industrial effort during the war period. Some of the other exhibits showcase the life and times during that period, like portraits, dresses, furniture arrangements and weaponry. Most of the exhibits are in very good condition and maintained well. Description of most exhibits is in German and there are no English translations. One of the main difficulties is that everything is in German and there is no information in English. This makes understanding the place a little difficult. Also most of the staff is not fluent in English so you may have some problems if you don't speak German. It is also rather small and won't take much of your time. The tour may last for at most an hour, but since I couldn't speak German I might have missed some things. It is a decent experience overall but not something that will blow your mind. You might visit it if you have covered everything else as tickets do cost around 4 euros. Also if you are very interested in knowing the history of Braunschweig, which I didn't find that interesting, you may want to visit it. See more..

Easy to walk around and accessible for all mobilities, kid and family friendly. Adult prices are only 8€ but I recommend the guided tour, which is only 9€, only 1€ difference. The guided tour gets you in the Schlosstheatre and the chapel, where as self guided, you cannot go into the theatre or chapel.See more..

4.0Museum Burg Bederkesa(13 reviews) - Interesting archeological and local history museum in renovated castle Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums • History Museums
If you are staying in the town, this museum is worth a visit. There is an interesting statue of Roland (famous in Bremen) in the courtyard and there is a 20-minute video on the castle itself and the history of the area. There are some fascinating archeological finds on display which are of general interest to all. A lot of things were preserved in the mud and were then excavated and well- preserved. There is a cafe there too but there was a private party going on. We were staying at the Bosehof Hotel who gave us free tickets - a nice touch!See more..

5.0Bergbaumuseum Knesebeckschacht(12 reviews) - Sehr informative, lebendig vorgetragene Führung Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums • Natural History Museums • History Museums
See more..
5.0Hildesheim Cathedral Museum(12 reviews) - World Class Treasures in a Great New Home. Spent < 1 hour Speciality Museums • Art Museums • History Museums
I visited Hildesheim particularly to see the Bernward treasures in their new setting of the museum. It is a wonderful space, well meeting the modern criteria that museum objects must have a space that enhances the experience of seeing them. The items themselves are very well situated at a comfortable height, and the viewer is able to get up close to most of them. The lighting is good, as are the details of the items. I had with me the catalogue from the Met in New York - where the treasures paid a visit while the museum and cathedral were being renovated, apparently the first such guide to the treasures written in English, so I was fully able to enjoy my experience. The museum is on several floors, including a lower level where you can view archaeological detailsSee more..

We came for the 70th Anniversary of the Liberation of Starlag XB Sandbostel on 29. April.2015 from the UK to remember Freda Laycock (Blackburne) who was a British nurse with the 10th Casualty Clearing Station who arrived with the liberating forces. The conditions were horrendous and it took months to help the prisoners recover. Many were starving and many died. The medical staff had to choose who to treat & who to leave to die. Resources were very restricted & the situation overwhelming. Emotional & poignant visit. At the commemoration there were four survivors and many relations who had various stories to tell. See more..

4.0Domschatzkammer und Diözesanmuseum(10 reviews) - Interesting history Spent < 1 hour Speciality Museums • Art Museums • History Museums
Interesting exhibition and worth to see - a most see if you are interested in church artifacts. Nevertheless English descriptions are missing and would be appreciated. One thing which was very annoying, when we bought the tickets, the lady did not inform us that all belonging had be stored at the downstairs locker room. So we walked in with a small bag and it was really small. The guard came by a few times and suggested that we would store it downstairs, but said it was not forbidden. Nevertheless be brought it down as we were intruded and noticed at least 10 times. Why don't they say, please leave all belongings downstairs instead of sending such negative vibe.See more..

A first class museum with many trams from various cities in Germany and throughout Europe. Reachable by tram and bus from central Hannover but certainly well worth the trouble. Reasonable entrance fee with a small shop. The exhibits are located in several buildings with a good number in running order. Included in the entrance fee is 1 round trip on a tram which is certainly worth exploring. On this tour many more trams awaiting restoration can be seen passing by in sidings and in other buildings unfortunately out of bounds. Excellent photographic opportunities too. There was also a large café area on site with a musician playing live. An excellent afternoon out for anyone interested in trams from the early age of development right up to trams just withdrawn from the Hannover system. Thoroughly recommended.See more..

For two days every year the museum, with its castle and moat, hosts an authentic middle ages spectacle. This year it was on 23rd and 24th September. There is jousting, there are hundreds of people strolling around in the clothes of medieval times and lots of little shops sell handcrafts and other somewhst unusual but attractive items. There are performers going round with a hat after their act. Not to mention the food. The bad news? Today's prices! Free entry but you are encouraged to make a donation.
