I stopped by today after working on the base at Nordholz this week. The museum is easy to find, located right next to the base entrance. Inside is dedicated mostly to zeppelins, including the Hindenburg. Very interesting, and not the kind of displays that we see much in the US. Outside is an eclectic collection of aircraft, including helicopters. Most will be familiar to us aviation buffs, but include some that we don't see often such as the SU-22, Pembroke, etc. Some have steps available so you can check out the cockpit. One of the MI-8 helos is open too so you can go inside to see the cockpit. Well worth the visit if you're in the area. Donate a little cash to them too! There's a gift shop inside that has books, shirts, kid stuff, and military patches and pins.See more..

Pretty big museum and a lot to see especially with regards to aircrafts. Would definitely recommend to check it out. Keep in mind that there is a lot to see so you should take atleast an hour for this museum.See more..

We had time to stop by on our way out of town and so glad we did. The place was filled with treasures of maps, propaganda posters, signs, etc. Has the feel of your grandfather's attic barn. Not visibly organized but facinating.See more..

A beautiful place to visit. We were touring would recommend staying more than one day. So much to see. Like stepping back in time. The square is lovely. The pied piper comes out if the doors at the top of the building on the hour.its wonderful to see. Lots of little shops to go into . The walks by the little streams magical. The people are so friendly. Would recommend it to anyone . Also drive through te Hartz mountains and forests.See more..

For two days every year the museum, with its castle and moat,hosts an authentic middle ages spectacle. This year it was on 23rd and 24th September. There is jousting,there are hundreds of people strolling around in the clothes of medieval times and lots of little shops sell handcrafts and other somewhst unusual but attractive items. There are performers going round with a hat after their act. Not to mention the food. The bad news? Today's prices! Free entry but you are encouraged to make a donation. The museum building itself is worth a visit,too,and is open at specific times during the year. Hier wird auf engstem Raum die Geschichte des Bombenkrieges und dem daraus resultierendem Leid der Zivilbevölkerung auf beklemmende Art und Weise dargestellt. Hier wird aber kein Unterschied zwischen den Nationen gemacht, das Leid war überall vorhanden. Hier ist kein Platz für übertriebenen Patriotismus und eingefärbten Nationalstolz (Farbe möchte ich hier nicht näher beschreiben). In den Ausstellungsräumen sind die militärhistorischen Epochen anhand von Uniformen und Ausstellungsexponaten detailliert dargestellt. Viele ausgestellte Szenen sind beklemmend realistisch. In dieser Sammlung wird das ganze grausame Geschehen eines Krieges dargestellt und man kommt zum Schluss, jeder verliert, es gibt keine Gewinner. Es ist unbedingt empfehlenswert dieses Museum zu besuchen. See more..
