The parking was almost full so I was afraid that the place will be crowded but it wasn't that bad. The ground is big and there is more interesting stuff than the reconstructed part of the castle so the visitors were distributed and the visit was enjoyble with no disturbance or waiting. There are plenty of information panels about the castle and its history, about country's history, about prehistory of this place, geology and nature. Plus amazing views not only from the tower. I really liked it there and it was hard to leave. Parking lot is about 500 meters far from the castle. The trail is very comfortable lined with the stones with info panels about the castle history so it makes already a lot of fun. There are also two chemical toilets available close to castle. Surprisingly they were very clean. Entrance is free. I can truly recommend a visit there. Plan a lot of time. See more..

We visited this place because of our curiousity as my parents in law are living in "Driebergen" in the Netherlands. Well, there was no 3 mountains ( Dreibergen) but 3 small hills next to each others. So we did take a walk up and down the hills. See more..

Die Ruine ist im Besitz des Landes Niedersachsen. See more..

    Dersaburg image
See more..

  10. 5.0 Walbecker Warte (1 review)
    - In the middle of forest
Saturday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent 1-2 hours Ancient Ruins • Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Walbecker Warte image
There are two watch towers in the forest called Walbecker Warte 1 & 2. They can be found on the hiking trail 5 and are easily reachable from any hiking parking lot between Helmstedt and Bad Helmstedt. In all cases it is easy comfortable stroll. I personally started from the little parking on the Brunnenweg. From there it was about 2 km to the first tower and another 1 km to the other one and it was enjoyable trip. I also tried the trail from parking Drillingskiefer. It was very nice too but a big portion of it leads along the road and it is much closer to the highway so it can be a bit noisy at times. Am not sure if the ruins are original or just reconstruction. They don't look so old but they are well worth a visit anyway. You will also find there information panels telling about history of Helmstedt fortification and both towers, in detail in German and a little info in English too. See more..
