The Cave Experience Centre is a visitor magnet in the Harz. Its three sections bring the geological history of the earth to life and display one of the fascinating highlights of European cave archaeology. The "Museum in the Mountain" shows that the Iberg was once a coral reef in the South Seas and covers its journey to the north. This connects directly with the Dripstone Cave - show cave since 1874. The "Museum on the Mountain" is dedicated to the sensational discoveries at the Lichtenstein Cave. This cavern was the grave of a Bronze Age family clan nearly 3000 years ago. An copy of the cave hangs under the museum roof and can be entered by visitors. On the basis of the diverse finds, the life and death of the clan is movingly displayed and even their living descendents are presented - making this the oldest and longest genetically verifiable family tree in the world! Guided tours in English, Danish and Spanish - please inquire. See more..
