Feeling part of the life of the forest and getting views from treetop height was lovely. The information points were helpful, especially if you want to develop your German. The autumnal colours are very beautiful, along withe the sound of the streams and river. We went up the burgberg by cable car, had a drink at the cafe at the top and then went along to see the lynx being fed - which happens on Thursday and Friday. Then descended the hill and walked along the baumwipfelpfad. Look out for the signs, it's not that well indicated. See more..

Rabbenklippe is just one of the great stops on the 875 circuit bus route (no cars are allowed in the national park). Catch the bus at the bahnhof or near the Seilbahn entry. €4 for a day pass jump on jump off, that lets you use not just this bus but others around Bad Hazburg too! Ask the driver. Its a UNESCO world heritage site. We start out journey from Oldenburg by train and reach Norden. from Norden we took a taxi to Norddich. There we ride a small ship and reach the island Norderney situated in the other side. We pay 11 Euro's each to a guide and she lead us to the way back through the mud. It was really a good experience. When we ride the boat there was full water in the sea but this is the same sea bed through we walked back. It took us nearly an hour to reach the main land. You can see a lot of seal in the beach. The island on the other side is also beautiful. There are some small water bodies and canal alike things in the sea bed when we walked back. Its better to take a guide and make sure you are wearing a socks when hiking in the mud. See more..

We visited this bird of prey centre just before the 11:00 display was due to start. the location is very attractive, set on a hillside amongst the trees. On the day of our visit the weather was bright and sunny. There were only a few couples looking around until a coach trip of children arrived shortly afterward. Their participation in the flying show , which was very informative, made the visit even more enjoyable. this is only a small, one man, show, so as with our show there can be breaks if deliveries arrive mid show! We were the only visitors for almost all our visit today,partly because it was Monday and partly because the day had started with heavy rain. It turned out to be a lovely sunny afternoon and we had lots of close face to face contact with llamas,donkeys,horses,some tropical birds,an elephant and others. Just wonderful! The entrance charge of 14 Euros is reasonable,in my view,when you take into account the staff,upkeep,etc.etc. This was our third visit and we'll be back! See more..

eating is simple outside. Grill is open on Wednesday after 5 pm. Meat is Heidschnucken which is a kind of sheep. You can visit these sheep and see how the dogs keep them in line. Donation of one Euro is asked. Food is great, different days, different foods. They have even a Bratkartoffel day.Interesting. Nature in this area is hurt by a coal mining in recent past and despite ongoing restoration activities many places are still not accessible or dangerous to walk there. From this point of view is the Elm Lappwald nature park kind of miracle and welcome opportunity to spend time in the forest. At the other hand sometimes I have a feeling that calling this forest is an exaggeration. These are just little island of trees and bushes devided by wide roads damaged by heavy vehicles. This little charming valley is popular among hikers, cyclists, motorcyclists and horse riders and it seems to be enough place for everybody there. There are several parking places for hikers and plenty of marked hiking trails. Most of them are wide and solid, comfortable even for family trip with kids. Although they offer beautiful views and walking there is an amazing experience I trully recommend to take one of many unmarked trails. Went to the North Bargerveen part of this German-Dutch park. My initial interest was to take my bike and that would have been possible but there are one 2.4, one 3 and one 6 km route that can only be done on foot. It shows some authentic parts with all of the original soil still in place, parts that are recovering since the rescue plan was put in place in 1983 and some left overs of previous people that really lived here: a small piece of rail, some old pieces of equipment and one house that was build in 1947 and occupied by a family until 1970 or so. Right now it is being converted into a hotel for insects. I was happy that I brought my hiking boots, it is a bit muddy. But yes, I loved it. See more..

I visited this little heath in the middle of August when it was in full bloom and it was just breath taking. The area is small but density of the plants and the colour intensity when blooming is exceptional. There is a big parking place about 200 m far from the entrance but it is possible to park on the road closer. You will find there a few marked hiking trails in different length with information panels and examples of prehistorical dwellings. It is definitely worth a visit. See more..

Äußerst empfehlenswert ist ein Besuch der sehr liebevoll moderierten Flugvorführung der Falknerei (jeweils um 11:30 Uhr und um 15:00 Uhr).

Heerter lake is a natural reservation where you can observe plenty of various kinds of birds. Just be sure that weather is suitable for such an activity. There is about 6 km long trail around the lake but it gets really boring when the weather sucks and even birds keep hiding. Most of the time there is a few meters wide strip of trees between trail and lake so it is not much to see. At several places you can get closer to the water and there also two observation towers. Entry to Nabu Gut Sunder is free, there are also plenty of free parking places on site. The path follows a trail trough the woods and around various lakes where you can see the wildlife and enjoy the scenery. There are I believe various activities that can be organised for visiting groups of children. At the end of the trail you'll find the Herrenhaus, a wonderful old building with the date 1649 above the door, it also has some wonderful carvings on the exterior wooden beams. Set in lovely surroundings it is a great place to stop for coffee and cakes. The staff are friendly and the service is excellent. Toilets are also available. An ideal place for a family day out, although I would recommend visiting on a fine day. See more..
