This is one of the nicest city parks I have ever visited. I learned later it is nearly twice the size of NYC Central Park. Visited Dankern for the first time and I have never seen a place with so much to do. The list is endless, and a huge amount is free to entrance holders. A remarkable difference between Ireland (where I live) and Dankern is the attitude to Health&Safety: there you are assumed to be able to be responsible for yourself and your children’s actions and decisions. The play areas are very lightly supervised, guests are expected to respect the equipment and other guests. There are special areas for tinies and older kids, but the guests seem to respect these boundaries without supervision. If you fall, you fall: next time you’ll be more careful, ie it’s not seen as the fault (an insurance claim) of the management. It really highlighted to me what a nanny state we live in. What freedom. A great place to visit, the gardens are really interesting with descriptions of what the herbs are good for, the spice shop is small but pretty amazing choice and for the cooks among us, but ohhh my, think we had a witch working on the front cashier. The Gradierwerk in Bad Rothenfelde are not one of a kind, you will also find them in other Spa towns, but we have the longest! How do you explain exactly what they are? Well, imagine the size of a football pitch and a building 3 stories high, made of a wooden ‘A’ frame and stuffed from each side with black hawthorn. Now picture a windmill right at the top far end, pumping the natural Spa water to the top of the ‘A’ frame, this water then trickles down the hawthorn and the salt from the water is collected on the sticks. It solidifies giving the impression of stalagmites or stalactites. Very impressive if you have not seen it before, but very healthy as the screen acts like a radiator and the air around it is just like breathing sea air. For a small charge you can also go inside into a small room, and breathe the air from there. Well worth a visit. :)See more..

Kurpark Lüneburg is a wonderful facility. Since 1907 the park is a place for relaxation and contemplation. It is designed in the tradition of English landscape parks. Because in Lüneburg there was extracted salt they built a brine concentrating house in the park. The salt water is dripping thru a large framework of blackthorn. So the brine is concentrated and thru wind you can breathe the salt drip air which is very good for the breathing apparatus. In the park you find a great variety of interesting trees, himalaya birches, catalpa, different species of maples, oaks, beeches, larches and many more. In a sheltered place you find an herb garden with an insects' hotel. You can lie or play on the lawns or sit on many benches, in the sun, in the shade, at a lake, or play boccia or chess on special places. There is a stage for concerts with a nice covered round to sit and an open auditorium. Even a café you find there. It is always worth to visit for health and relaxation.See more..

So living just opposite Prinzenpark has its advantage esp. when you love to run or inclined do anything physical but also when you just wanna chill and sun bath in summer. Park located in the east ring of the city is big and almost seamlessly connects to wildlife sanctuary of riddaghausen. My recommendation would be to park at the east most corner of the park and walk in west direction. You will walk little uphill to reach the monument for Prinz-Albrecht and also small fortification, from where you can have a nice view of the city. Then you continue westwards after the end of the park and reach the lakes where you can be in the middle of protected sanctuary for birds. On a nice summer day, once can easily plan a whole day here. Otherwise for just the park 1 hours is more than enough. (I am already getting nostalgic :p)See more..
We visited in August and the temperature was maybe 29 degrees. Because of the trees on our path it was a great walk. We've walked from Undeloh to Wilsede, it's about a 45 minutes walk. This is just enough if you are travelling with kids. In Wilsede we had a lunch and afterwards went back. Parking lot costs 3 euro a day so we were in no hurry. See more..

Within easy reach of the town centre, this area offers peace, tranquility, beauty and wildlife. On two sunny days this week, we took our picnic lunches, and enjoyed sitting on one of the numerous benches, eating and enjoying the surroundings. We loved the various interesting statues ((but could not understand the information panels, as we do not speak German), and the wide variety of bird life.
