All in German, but still very interesting
This museum provides a glimpse at the peat (turf) industry which existed until quite recently. All the explanations are in German, but one can see an area of heath, an area where peat is being cut and in the museum building one can handle the different kinds o peat. There are also dwellings of peat cutters: form the most basic to that of an up-and-coming peat cutter (joke). From the photographs, peat cutter families tended to be very large and there is a section of the need for peat cutter women and children to go into tons and beg. There is a pleasant little cafe on the premises.

    Wonderful museum!
This museum has a wonderful collection of dwellings from the era of the peat harvesting. Make sure you see the film and visit the museum displays. It will help you better understand how poor the early settlers in this area were. Perfect for families and groups of any type. If you are in this area, don't miss it! Wonderful cafe with great Ostfriesen tea and torte's!
