  1. 4.5 Lungo Mare (1.359 reviews)
    - Lovely town
    Historic Walking Areas
    Lungo Mare image
We loved the delightful town of Opatija which is situated on the coast of Croatia on the Adriatic Sea. In the 19th century it was a fashionable resort town, and is dotted with Habsburg-era villas. The very attractive Lungomare promenade runs along the coastline, and gives lovely views of the town and neighbouring islands. Small stalls were lined up along the promenade selling souvenirs, ice creams, tours and the like. We saw the beautiful 1800s Villa Angiolina, which is set in a garden of exotic plants, and today houses the Croatian Museum of Tourism. And we made a short stop at the 14th century St. Jacob’s Church which is located near Villa Angiolina. There’s lots to see in this pretty town so if you’re on the Istrian Peninsula, make sure you visit Opatija. - A great viewpoint
    Castles
    Trsat Castle image
Trsat Castle represents a strategically embossed gazebo on a hill 138 meters above sea level that dominates Rijeka. As a parochial centre it was mentioned for the first time in 1288. Trsat Castle is one of the oldest fortifications on the Croatian Coast, where the characteristics of the early medieval town construction have been preserved. Today Trsat Castle, beside the Bazilisk souvenir shop and the Gradina coffee bar, is enriched with new facilities – gallery space where art exhibitions are held as well as open-air summer concerts and theatre performances as well as fashion shows and Literary evenings. Within Trsat Castle, at the Petra Zrinskog b.b. Address, is the Trsat Castle Info Point where any information about this building and the town of Rijeka can be found. See more..

    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Maiden With The Seagull image
The statue of Maiden with the seagull is a symbol, not only of Opatija but the entire Kvarner region. Elegantly standing on the reef beside Lungomare promenade in a prominent position, overlooking the splendid bay. Unmissable, it tells an interesting story that is worth reviewing and the identity of the girl was was actually unknown for decades. The location, on the shore overlooking the bay makes for some excellent photo opportunities. See more..

    - Very nice fishing town with stray cats

    Volosko image
Volosko is a pleasant small fishing town close to Opatija. We ate a two different restaurants in the harbor which has also cocktail bars as well as other traditional restaurants. From the port towards Opatija it’s possible to walk along a pathway where you’ll find several diving spots and areas for sunbathing. Parking is easier early in the morning and late at night. There is a dedicated app for paying for your parking spot - way better than paying with change. Volosko has also a considerable amount of stray cats that are very friendly and sweet so make sure to carry some cat food with you. See more..

  8. 4.0 Korzo (415 reviews)
    - Nice and atractive place
    Historic Walking Areas
    Korzo image
At the beginning of the 20th century, Korzo started to assume its modern-day outlines. The main promenade and meeting-point for Rijeka citizens as well as the construction area used in building the symbolic palaces demonstrate various styles including Classical, Historical, Secessional, and Modernist. Urban regulations appeared in the latter half of the 19th century, but these meant only an intensification of the rate of raising the seabed (with sand), and grand public constructions which appear to have very developed the seabed. Even then, at the turn of the century, the picture is of a littoral town straitened by its walls. Today, is hard to believe that until the sea-trench was filled-in and the town walls pulled down, this was only a gravel sea coast with a few wooden embankments and storehouses, a shipyard and a city log house which traded in cereals, fish and salt. 15. 4.5 Lubenice Beach (168 reviews)
    - Stunning beach and town
    Beaches
    Lubenice Beach image
Absolutely stunning beach! The beach is clean, made of pebble stones, the water is crystal clear, transparent, swimming in such an amazing place (you are looking at the town of Lubenice on the cliff is simpli breathtaking)! It takes approximately 15-20 minutes to reach the town of Lubenice after leaving the main road. The path is narrow, surrounded with stone wall. So pay attention. After entering the town a big parking is on the left and the beginning of the hiking trail (that is - path to the beach) is located near the coffee bar. The signs along the path are very well marked. It takes approximately 1 h downhill and 1.5 h uphill. The upper part of the bath is throughout the woods so if has a lot of shade but some parts are a bit slippery (stones) so hiking shoes or sneakers are obligatory!! A wonderful experience on Cres. I visited on a cloudy day, the water was freezing but the experience is unforgettable. ❤️ See more..

This is a great secluded beach. It’s about 10-15 min walk from the highway down to the beach. The beach is small so not a lot of space for a lot of people. When we got there at 10am it was only 30 people there. Of course, the downside is there are no facilities around you - so be prepared for that See more..
  20. 4.0 Gradski Toranj (City Tower) (126 reviews)
    - Monumental and beautiful architecture
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Gradski Toranj (City Tower) image
Gradski Toranj (City Tower), a symbol of Rijeka, is a good example of a typical round tower access-point, which lead into the fortified town. Today it dominates the central part of Korzo, although it was, during its time, overtopped by more recently constructed buildings. It was built in the Middle Ages, probably on the foundations of the Late Ancient, littoral town doors. Some baroque phases of its construction can be seen on the lower part of the front of the Tower, which are characterised by a richly decorated portal, an imperial coat of arms carved out of stone and a relief of the Austrian emperors Leopold and Charles VI. Rijeka paid them special respect due to the maritime orientation they introduced into the state policies of the Austrian court. See more..

That was a great experience. Old houses with nice streets. If you are a photographer you can find many great view and spot for photography. The only problem is the location address which is written in the trip adviser. Do not trust this address. I would like to ask someone to correct this. This address will take you to the narrow street behind the „narrowest street“ which there is no car parking slot. See more..
  23. 4.5 Mali Bok (117 reviews)
    - Hidden crystal blue beach
    Spent 1-2 hours Beaches
    Mali Bok image
The best thing of Cres Island is the hidden beaches. Mali Bok beach is one of them. Although it is quite challenging to reach the beach, but it is really worth the effort. The beach is located below the cliff near Orlec village and the car parking is above the cliff. It is free. From the village, we still head to the beach, the road was quite small. To go to the beach was easy but to go back to the car was super tiring. The walk-path was super steep and long, at least we walked for 20 minutes to the car. Make sure to wear shoes if you go there. Bring water and food. The beach itself was amazing. The water color was crystal blue. Although the water was cold when we were there (the end of August) but we still swam. There was no shade, so beware with the sunburnt. We spent on the beach in the afternoon so it was not that hot. We enjoyed our time there. See more..

  25. 4.0 St. Vitus Cathedral (102 reviews)
    - Go Inside
    Speciality Museums
    St. Vitus Cathedral image
Rijeka’s St. Vitus Cathedral is the only Baroque rotunda of monumental dimensions built on Croatian land. The construction of this church began in 1638 based on the design of the Jesuit architect G. Brian. The eminent Venetian church, Santa Maria della Salute, served as s model. An elevated spot was chosen for the construction of St. Vitus church at the heart of the then medieval urban tissue. Initially there was a small church of the same name located on the same site, dedicated to the city’s patron saint. The Jesuit order, as creator of the project, immediately decided to use the cult of the wooden Magic crucifix from the original church, which popular legend says began to bleed when a certain Petar Lončarić, threw a stone on it in fear after losing at gambling. Aquapark Cikat image
I've been there with some friends last week. We stayed at Cikat camping so after a long day at the beautiful beach near there we wanted to try the Aquapark (free for guest of the camping) and we had a lot of fun. It's mostly for families and children but even people our age (20-25yo) can enjoy it. The slides are amazing and +100 points for the pool bar. Drink list is pricey but ok. I wouldn't stay longer than 1-2 hours tho, I prefer the sea :) See more..

The beach can get overcrowded but it is worth it. The parking is 40kn/day but considering that there are tourists coming constantly I wouldn't pay and leave hoping to find a new parking place when returning - so once you get there it is best to plan staying the entire day. There is a beachbar there too so that takes care of the drinks. Until now the best beach on the island! See more..

This is a lovelt place for lunch or dinner on a hot day. We had the roast lamb chops with delicious roast potatoes. Also tried the cheese and cured meat platter which was all home produced. Lovely table amongst the herbs and animals in the garden and picked the green figs in the garden. It's a twenty minute walk up the road from the harbour but well worth it to escape the crowds. There is also a shop selling jams, honey, herbs and wine. Highly recommend. See more..

Park your car on the street and find a way down. There are many ways down to the beach; we took the one marked with blue spray paint (near the artificial retaining wall out of stone). Wear sneakers or boots - not flip flops! It will take you 5 - 15 minutes up/down depending on your fitness. Not suited for strollers! The water was pristine! The beach has small pebbles/gravel with patches of sand. Easy entry into the water without any steep drops. No urchins, no jellyfish at least in June. You can rent umbrella and chairs for 100 Kuna. There’s also a beach-bar which opens around 10:30, haven’t tried it though. No sanitary facilities. See more..
  36. 4.0 Old Gateway (Roman Arch) (59 reviews)
    - The Roman walk
    Ancient Ruins
    Old Gateway (Roman Arch) image
The Old Gateway or Roman Arch is not a Roman arch as was once presumed, but was in fact the main entrance to the central compound of the Roman Tarsatica in late antiquity, an ancient town on whose ruins medieval Rijeka was built. The instincts of Rijeka’s populace in calling this ancient monument simply the Gateway have been proved right, the epithet Roman Arch being gradually accepted since Classicism, when it started to be documented and researched. This Principia was the main centre, supply base and the starting point of the Alpine enclosure, composed of scores of kilometers of protective walls, turrets, guard-houses and larger fortifications usually on high ground which were able to signal to one another, all built with the aim of blocking barbarian incursions towards Italy, the centre of the Roman Empire. - Interesting discovery about Rijeka history
Monday: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours History Museums
Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral image
THE MARITIME AND HISTORY MUSEUM OF THE CROATIAN LITTORAL has been one of the most important meeting-places of culture in the city of Rijeka for the last four decades. With its permanent display and many valuable exhibitions from its own holdings or of other Croatian museums it takes part in tracing the important events connected with the history and culture of Rijeka, Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and Croatia, and so it reveals small parts of the insufficiently known past. With its research into the complex materials (of archaeological, ethnographical, artistic, cultural-historical and maritime-historical characteristics), in a time span from prehistory to the Modern Age, with expert and scientific methods it processes, systemises and presents the role and development of the whole of the social organism in the region of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, the Croatian Littoral and the city of Rijeka and points out its specific and interactive relationship with other European centres over a thousand year period, with the aim of becoming a dynamic, open and educative institution. With its headquarters in the building of the former Governor’s Palace, a protected cultural monument, as exhibit number 1, the museum with an interdisciplinary approach offers the consideration–identification, familiarisation and understanding of the character of the people and places, memories and myths, uncovering the identity, which represents an unbreakable link of the past and present. It is unfortunate that the place is devastated (be careful not to step on broken glass or wire or something similar ). It is shame that is not regulated as a memorial and educational center. In a movie theater is showing a short instructional movie with subtitles (11 minutes, and the ticket price is 10 kuna). You can take small train ride ( excursion train ) from side to side of the island and the ticket price is 30 kuna. I recommend that you take boat tour so you can also visit island Grgur where it was women's prison. See more..

The Croatian Museum of Tourism was established in 2007 and its headquarters were purposefully located in Opatija - the city where Croatian tourism was born and whose growth was completely intertwined with tourism. This unique museum collects, investigates and displays objects and stories that bear witness to the rich history of tourism in Croatia, but it also raises the question of how tourism today affects all of us - how our cities are changing, as well as how we change by traveling and welcoming travelers. The museum has three locations in the center of Opatija - villa Angiolina and Swiss House in the Angiolina Park and Juraj Sporer Art Pavilion in St. Jacob’s Park. See more..

The Harbour and the Town Prospect image
Also known as Eporij, the harbour was already an integral part of the Roman town. It was situated in a tamed natural bay. We assume it was equipped with typical facilities of ancient town harbours. Capuchin Church of Our Lady of Lourdes image
The Capuchin church of Our Lady of Lourdes was built from 1904 until 1929 in accordance with plans by engineers Giovanni Maria Curet and Cornelio Budinich. The modestly conceived neo-Gothic building ordered by the nuns of the Jesus Heart Institute was soon replaced by a monumentally conceived church in honour of the magical cure of the guardian of the capuchin monastery, father Bernardin Škrivanić in Lourdes. It was built as a double neo-Gothic basilica with rich polychrome art carried out in the Lombard fashion. In the beginning, in 1907, the church of the Our Lady of Sorrows was built followed by the 70 metre-long church of Our Lady of Lourdes from 1914 until 1929. The sanctuary was decorated with polychrome stained glasses, and the church’s front facades and altar plaster were decorated by the Venetian sculptor Urbano Bottasso and Rijeka carver, Antonio Marietti. Frescoes in the interior were painted by the famous Rijeka painter, Romolo Venucci. Although the 75 metre-high lighthouse was never built on the church, it became an unavoidable sign for all passengers. See more..
