Trsat Castle represents a strategically embossed gazebo on a hill 138 meters above sea level that dominates Rijeka. As a parochial centre it was mentioned for the first time in 1288. Trsat Castle is one of the oldest fortifications on the Croatian Coast, where the characteristics of the early medieval town construction have been preserved. Today Trsat Castle, beside the Bazilisk souvenir shop and the Gradina coffee bar, is enriched with new facilities – gallery space where art exhibitions are held as well as open-air summer concerts and theatre performances as well as fashion shows and Literary evenings. Within Trsat Castle, at the Petra Zrinskog b.b. Address, is the Trsat Castle Info Point where any information about this building and the town of Rijeka can be found. See more..

Castle of the Frankopans Remains image
FRANKOPANSKI KASTEL, (castle of the Frankopans) belonged to the Frankopan family as early as 1288 and it preserved its original looks until 1761. Today we can see only the remains of the castle, which being devastated and having lost most of the value of the original building, close the main square of Novi from the west. On the newly-laid stone slabs of the square the the lay-out of the round tower or "rondel", as it was known among local people, was drawn in. See more..

  4. 4.5 Grobnik Castle (3 reviews)

    Castles
    Grobnik Castle image
Another Frankopans castle (most castles in the northern coastal region of Croatia were owned by this family - the Counts of Krk). This is an almost perfectly preserved (walls - not interiors) triangular hill-top castle. Located inside the castle are: 1: The Ethnographic museum, which has some 4200 exhibits from Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and Istria. 2: The Gallery of Contemporary Art which houses visiting exhibitions of buyable 'art' - the exhibition from mid-June to mid-July had a limited edition print of the 'naive artist' Ivan Generalic! Parking at the summit, by the entrance, is limited (3 maybe 4 cars). There is however a carpark located some 100 metres down the hill. As with the fortified hilltops at Brinje and Kastav, the vistas make the effort of driving up here well worthwhile. See more..
