Grobnik Castle, Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, Croatia
4.5 (3 reviews) Spent Ranking #1 in Grobnik Castles
Hill-top castle, Ethnographic museum and Gallery of Contemporary Art (both free to enter)
Another Frankopans castle (most castles in the northern coastal region of Croatia were owned by this family - the Counts of Krk). This is an almost perfectly preserved (walls - not interiors) triangular hill-top castle. Located inside the castle are: 1: The Ethnographic museum, which has some 4200 exhibits from Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and Istria. 2: The Gallery of Contemporary Art which houses visiting exhibitions of buyable 'art' - the exhibition from mid-June to mid-July had a limited edition print of the 'naive artist' Ivan Generalic! Parking at the summit, by the entrance, is limited (3 maybe 4 cars). There is however a carpark located some 100 metres down the hill. As with the fortified hilltops at Brinje and Kastav, the vistas make the effort of driving up here well worthwhile.
