Lovely town

We loved the delightful town of Opatija which is situated on the coast of Croatia on the Adriatic Sea. In the 19th century it was a fashionable resort town, and is dotted with Habsburg-era villas. The very attractive Lungomare promenade runs along the coastline, and gives lovely views of the town and neighbouring islands. Small stalls were lined up along the promenade selling souvenirs, ice creams, tours and the like. We saw the beautiful 1800s Villa Angiolina, which is set in a garden of exotic plants, and today houses the Croatian Museum of Tourism. And we made a short stop at the 14th century St. Jacob’s Church which is located near Villa Angiolina. There’s lots to see in this pretty town so if you’re on the Istrian Peninsula, make sure you visit Opatija. Walking in paradise
A gentle breeze, the view of the sea. What more do you need? On the way you can enter different parks and museums, as well as stop at a beach, cafe or a restaurant. Franz Josef the 1st was spot on with this idea!

    Lovley spot
We have visited Opatija 4 times now and please allow for the "no geek" review I am a simple intelligent person with no great factual knowledge, I "feel" a place. We have only walked from about Angiolina gardens for about a mile past the centre of Opatija due to slight mobility issues and the coastal walk (next to the sea) is lovely and relaxing/low key. There are many cafes/restaurants along the way as the centre is just yards away to your right. Clear water/people watching over a tea/coffee,boring to some, is a must to us.
