   We used 3 separate car ferry journies with Jadrolinija over a few days travelling from Italy and up the Dalmatian coast. We had very low expectations and to be honest everything went very smoothly and overall each was a fine experience. The port in Bari is slightly confusing, and we were 2 hours late departing (we had expected to be late, but it was somewhat annoying as we still had a drive to do after arriving in Bar quite late in the evening). The boats were all clean, reasonably comfortable, very basic services, but smooth journeys and apart from the Bari - Bar they wasted no time. See more..

   We (I+wife+2 kids - 4 and 2 y.o.) visited the Aquarium in Crikvenica two weeks ago. It is really small but nice aquarium. We saw local and tropical sea fish. Kids liked the most: shark (about 1 meter long), small crocodile (see picture) and the favorite - Nemo (clown fish). If you need to take children from the beach to small trip, take them here, they will really like it. You have to park your car next to supermarket about 200 meters from there, because there are no parking places closer. See more..

   Slatina beach is old and it should be modernized. It is ok if you don't care...but there are so many other beaches which you should explore. For example the beach Lido is now part of the beach resort Bevanda and it looks great, than amazing Kantrida in Rijeka with modern pools complex, Medveja, Moscenicka Draga, Icici,...if you walk "lungo mare" you can find a small beach just for yourself.    We'd passed the place walking the Lungomare, noticed it looked fairly chilled with a beach bar vibe, so came back a following day after a long walk along the Carmen Sylva and up to Veprinac. The staff were great, drinks came swiftly and they didn't pressure us to order food quickly. The food though - that burger was honest to god the best I've ever had with a thick base and just the right meat to onion ratio. See more..

   The launching ramp from 1930s is an item belonging to the closed torpedo production factory. It is proof of the technical inventive of Rijeka during this period and at the same time is an important world landmark of industrial heritage. The torpedo factory was founded on the outline of ideas by Rijeka inhabitant, Giovanni Luppis with regard to a defence weapon known as the “saviour of the shore”. Luppis was engaged with his idea at the beginning of 1860s, without success. Fortunately, the idea interested Robert Whitehead, the director of the Rijeka Technical Institute. Based on Luppis’ idea, Whitehead developed a solution that resembled a metal fish and called it torpedo. The prototype was tested in 1866 and in 1875 the Institute became the R. Whitehead & Co. Torpedo Factory. It was the first torpedo factory in the world. The ramp, which dates back to 1930, simulated the launching of projectiles from ships and planes. See more..

    Great beach for children. Parking is about 70 Kuna, get there early to get a shady spot. Steep hill from the parking but worth the trek. Pebbly beach with a cafe/bar and ice cream shop. Outside showers, loungers/ beds, umbrellas, plus watersports- wibit, SUP, paddle boat with slide. Gets very crowded in peak season so arrive early to get good parking and good shade on the beach. If you can core with arriving before 8, you won’t have to pay for parking! Best beach locally for older children. See more..

    We visited Lounge Bar Tantra every day during our week long trip to Opatija and once at night. It has sand which is a plus in Opatija(no concrete!) and you access the beautiful sea from a ladder or the high dive board. We hired sun loungers and you can get lounger-service from the waiting staff- coffee, sandwiches and beers are all very reasonably priced. The staff are a bit grumpy but never overly unpleasant. Some of them smiled occasionally! I guess they would rather be lounging by the sea instead of serving drinks so I'll let them off. See more..

    A delightful little church set in the small village of Mandaljena. The interior of the church had lovely sculptures set up high in the walls and a beautiful small altar. It is a very small church with only a few pews set out inside it.The nun lived across the road and was busy at work doing some gardening. Also across the opposite side of the road was a monument of Mary Magdeline where you could pray and light a small candle if you wished.     The massive Zrinski fortress, houses the museum of forestry, hunting and fishing. The old building built by the border is interesting by itself, having residential and wartime attributes. The museum presentation is very well done and modern. It offers a good balance of interactive content, cultural history and entertaining details. It is an educative place where you can relive a part of Gorski kotar history and tradition. Generally it is very nice museum and definitely must see attraction for those who are visiting the area of Gorski kotar.
