Whilst the entry fee is a little expensive (60RMB), this is a lovely park with an opportunity to do some hiking up the mountain inside. It is walking distance from the north end of the Lijiang Old Town. We went on a weekday in January and it didn't feel too busy, though the car park was full. 1 hour is enough if you just want to see the park, but if you want to hike up the mountain then allow 3 hours. Great place to wander around. A good combination of bustling shops and quiet. Many different islets connected by bridges, lotus flowers, and you can even go boating if you wish. There are always many people but it adds to atmosphere of the place, and at night many gather to exercise together, whether in the small exercise sections of the park or running laps around the lake. Recommend going on a Sunday, as in the afternoon there will be a traditional dance performance! See more..

Not for you if you want to really hike and explore off the beaten path. We are also spoiled by US National Parks but Potatso is made for a nice change from the many temples and old town we saw on our Yunnan trip. You are taken to the inside of the part by bus, then we went on a walk by the lake, later took a boat across another lake and walked some more. But they give you more of a general overview. Great place. Took a taxi, and then they have you purchase tickets for the the cable car or bus. We took a bus to the first section, then where everyone else went on the cable car we preferred to walk up and then back down. It will take half a day if you take transport, slightly more if you decide to walk instead. There are many shops and rest spots if you decide to eat there. When we went there were many tour groups, but it's normal for a tourist spot. As a note, to go to Dragon Gate you have to go down narrow passages within the rock and on the edge of the mountain- it is perfectly safe and there is a fantastic view of Dianchi Lake, but if you are scared of/uncomfortable in small spaces, you can skip Dragon Gate and explore other scenic spots instead. Great place to explore and get lost in, akin to Venice in terms of narrow streets and car-free environment. Some things to definitely enjoy - 1. Canals - these run throughout the town, go through the back streets (follow the canal path along Qiyi Street) to see more and avoid the crowds. You may bump into locals there whom are very friendly. 2. Roofscape - very interesting and best viewed from Hizi Mount / Lion Hill (the hill to the west of the town with the temple at the top). 3. Courtyards - most houses / inns in the old town have internal courtyards which you can peek into and maybe enter (but ask first if you're not sure). The northern part of town around Yuhe Square can be mobbed in the evenings and is very touristy, complete with McD's, KFC, Pizza Hut et all, so best avoid if you're not into these things. Would be good if the Lijiang authorities clamp down on the bars and clubs pumping loud music. See more..

This is one of the most wonderful botanical gardens I've seen in China, much less the world, and I've seen a number of extraordinary gardens. You do need to be aware that it is about an hour outside of town and you may not be able to get a DiDi to it. Other ride sharing apps, tour buses, and a very inexpensive public bus can get you there. I suggest you pay for the electric carts if you can because there are 23.5 km of trails. Barring that, make sure you explore all the Chinese Academy of Science's gardens. Flowers, fruits, and vines are amazing. Then do as much of the rain forest as you can. It is a different world. See more..

The trail up to Lion Hill Park starts from a corner of Sifang Square in Lijiang Old Town. The tourist shops and cafes that lined the trail are good distractions from the actual climb. The effort is worth it as Lion Hill Park offers wonderful views of Lijiang. The entrance fee to Lion Hill Park is RMB50 which includes entrance to Wang Gu Pavilion located at the top of Lion Hill Park. Climb to the top of Wang Gu Pavilion for a 360deg view of the whole of Lijiang, both old and new. We visited in the early evening to watch the sunset over the rooftops of the old town. Alternatively, to catch the views without actually entering Lion Hill Park, look out for the cafes on the left and right of the trail just before the entrance to the park. The cafes charge RMB5 if you want to just enter to check out the views. Otherwise, do what we did, order a cup of tea and enjoy the views of the sun slowly setting and the lights coming on from the old town. See more..

The park is located in the far north of the city, a taxi is the best way to get to the main north entrance, Kunming taxis are fairly inexpensive. Entrance is just 10 RMB, any time after mid March it is a riot of colours and smells, beautifully laid out exhibits, a nice glasshouse, lovely areas of woodland. A very nice place to spend an afternoon. The only down sides are the lack of sears and the fact it closes at 5:00 p.m. Getting a taxi back at the gate is reasonably easy and a number of buses mack to the city centre stop there. See more..

This is a large mountainous park which has a Taoist feel to the place. There is the usual small entry fee paid at the gate, and during festivals you will be able to purchase seasonal fruits. There is a number a trails further up the mountain and you can get in amongst the blossoms in the orchards up there. There is also some kind of shooting/paint ball range at the very top which would keep some people very involved. The temple itself is under construction and sits in the centre of the park, but it is very peaceful and serine. A very cool stream runs throughout the park and you can follow it up through bonsai gardens, different plantations and different types of trees. The park can be busy on the weekends, but quiet during the week. To get here, take the subway to the second last stop on the blue line and walk 20 minutes , taxi or bike. You should combine this place with the botanical gardens across the street if you like nature. See more..

This place is beautiful as far as tourist sites go. It’s a very Chinese style forest which means there isn’t a real trail or dirt path to be found. We came at a peak season time which I would never do again. It was so stressful with all the pushing and shoving and lines and etc. If you go I recommend asking a Chinese friend to help you pay for tickets online that are a package deal. We spent way too much paying alacarte. There’s some decent food inside at decent prices so that was a plus. Overall I would go again with friends who hadn’t gone before. See more..

Went there in March and they have the Cherry Blossom festival, this place has a lot more Cherry trees compared to the Yuantong temple, so if you want to take nice pictures this is a better option See more..

Visited both Yuanmou forest soil and Lang Ba Pu forest soil in Mid June. Had fine weather. Lang Ba Pu forest soil is bigger in scale and rated AAAA attraction. Land formations are sandy. It is not so touristy like stone forest. Sun here does not set over the horizon like on sea or desert. Sun blocked by high mountain. なんと博物館が2014年12月31日付けで改装のため閉館になっていた！ショック、昨日ではないか。掃除のおじさんにもクローズだと言われ、しばらく佇んでいると、中から人が出てきた。国籍を聞かれ、日本だと答えると、街を聞かれ、横浜だと答えると「日本人は友達だから特別に入れてあげよう」と中に入れてくれた。掃除のおじさんが灯りを点けてくれ、三輪車の運ちゃんと一緒に歩いていた中国人二人と一緒に中に入る。中には澄江で見つかった貴重な化石が分かりやすく展示されていた。見応えもあったが、それより、日本人は友達だと言って館内にいれてくれたことの方に感激した。電気をつけてくれた掃除のおじさんにお礼を言うと「お礼は彼に言え」とのこと。中に入れてくれた「日本人は友達」と言ってくれたおじさんはこの博物館の責任者だったようだ。思わぬ人情に触れて澄江の街に戻る。 See more..

We were taken into this natural reserve from Ludian where we were staying, a 2hr drive. I think in time the tourist centre will be quite smart, but at the moment there is an unfinished air about it. This did not detract from the scenery at the viewpoints which were quite the most spectacular that I have seen anywhere in the world. We were taken to one of he viewing points on horseback for 20 Yuan each, an inexpensive way to add to the enjoyment of he area. On the day we visited, the viewing points were above the clouds and the distant scenery, far below us, drifted in and out of view lending the place a quite mystical feel. There were a few other tourists but the site was far from being crowded though I suspect as tourism and access is developed in the area it may become crowded. This amazing place is about a 90 minute drive southeast of Kunming. There are limestone columns that rise from the earth and it is like walking through a vast, roofless cavern. The limestone has been eroded into interesting shapes and figures. It is large and filled with visitors but our guide (Murphy) showed us some areas that were not crowded. Many of the local guides were Yi people wearing very colorful native dress.The spider is one of their special symbols. We climbed to the top of the Pagoda to get a panoramic view. See more..

The seven of us from the United States visited the Sun River National Park in Pu’er, China. The park used to be called Laiyang River National Forest Park. We stayed in the park for two nights. The experience is very pleasant and memorable. The highlights are the two as follows: The Little Panda Manor - we stayed at “hexagon glass villa” situated in the woods with panoramic view from every angle. The villa itself is spacious and properly furnished with nothing but local materials. You don’t need to close the curtains for privacy, as each villa is surrounded by trees. Waking up by the gentle sunlight hearing birds singing and trees shivering was the most refreshing experience. Soaking in the tub bathing while enjoying the scent of woods and fresh air relaxed all the travel fatigue. We thought the Manor alone was worth the trip! Park tour with the naturalist - we had a half day tour accompanied by a very knowledgeable naturalist named A-Fu, who knows the park and the animals made the park their home intimately. Not only did he showed us the animals, plants, incests, and birds, told us the history of the park, he even “called” gibbobe, lories, little panda, owls, etc. over for us. He took the animals as his family members, called many by their nicknames. With his gentle “talk” to a female rhino, some of us even had rare experience to “pat” the huge animal! At the end of the day, the park staff consisted of quite a few different minorities performed a lovely show for us (they do it on daily base). It was wonderful to see the young park employees showcase their talents. The singing and dancing were very nice. The park is a fabulous place to go, for nature, for culture, with the ingenious Little Panda Manor, for luxury too. See more..

The park is situated four hours by car from Dali. A scientific centre and a temple have been build in the past years. You can make short and long walks in the park, some of them need a good physical condition. There are thousands of old wild camellia's, some of them with a height of more than 25 meters.
