Stayed overnight at Red land at Kunming Jindong Hotel in Hongtudi Village near Huashitou Village in the heart of the redlands. Hotel arranged a car and driver from mid afternoon till sunset and an hour before sunrise till mod morning for RMB 260. Visited 8 different locations with fantasic views - some good in morning some in afternoon. Beautiful landscape. We spent two days in the park. The park itself is a nice walk, up and down, along a river, next to water sprouts, and nice scenery. It's so nice that we walked the park twice, in opposite routes. We stayed in the park (very expensive but fantastic unit with private hot spring outdoor tub). The park admission is included in the lodging. It was my most relaxing vacation! See more..

I was told by the local people that Baisha Towm is the birthplace of Naxi culture and the center of Southern Silk Road with 1200 years history. It has been famous for the ancient mural about 600 years and Baisha Naxi Embroidery Institute. I just spent 3 hours there, but it made me just feel like in so called Shangerila. Especialy I was moved by the skill and spirit of Naxi embroidery masters in the institute. It is very worthy to be there. See more..

The main hot spring is about 98 degrees and you can cook eggs with its stream. It cost 5RMB to buy 4 eggs when you enter the scenic spots but 20RMB at the hot spring, so buy as many as you want before climbing to the main spot. The view on the way to the main spot was interesting as well. There were streams everywhere and you can smell sulfur. Many people say it is not a place to go during summer, probably so. It takes 25 minutes to get to the place from the town centre and about two hours to visit this place. And technically speaking, it is not a scenic resort but a scenic spot with a hot spring resort next to it, where you need to pay additional fees to enjoy it. We didn't choose to go to the hot spring resort because we get it in our hotel, but it should be relaxing. Overall, one should definitely go there if they visit Tengchong county, and, the eggs are yummy! (it tastes better than boiling with normal water at home.) See more..

Excellent walk around the whole park with some excellent views. Visited on the Sunday before National Day holiday and was very quiet. 60¥ for adults to enter and free for over 70s. You can do a long rigorous walk or a shorter trail depending on which paths you pick. 750¥ to hire a round trip private car from Kunming. Visited both Yuanmou forest soil and Lang Ba Pu forest soil in Mid June. Had fine weather. Lang Ba Pu forest soil is bigger in scale and rated AAAA attraction. Land formations are sandy. It is not so touristy like stone forest. Sun here does not set over the horizon like on sea or desert. Sun blocked by high mountain. I visited Mengpin at sunset and the scenery was every bit as dramatic as I imagined. As we were there in the winter the rice terraces were flooded and they shone silver as the sun set, giving some great almost monochrome photos. Unfortunately, the cloud was a little too heavy that day for the really spectacular colours you see on the postcards, but it was still well worth the trip. There is a good free viewpoint of this area if you don't want to pay 30 RMB to got to the official observation deck - you can save the money for Duoyishu in the morning. See more..

the lake is in a beautiful forest - but access is now denied - there is a metal gate and a guard who will turn you away. No reason is given. Its a depressing trend that areas of natural beauty are fenced in, equipped with minimal tourist infrastructure then closed so nobody can enjoy. Travelled from the Spring City Resort in a group of 4 to play golf at the Stone Forest B course. The course is in a spectacular setting with the stone outcrops all over the place, beautiful lush fairways and good greens. The course was busy so there was not really time to take all the photo's we wanted but still a very enjoyable experience. The clubhouse is outstanding and its facilities with a good restaurant and a driving range off the back. Would love to go back to play there again. See more..

なんと博物館が2014年12月31日付けで改装のため閉館になっていた！ショック、昨日ではないか。掃除のおじさんにもクローズだと言われ、しばらく佇んでいると、中から人が出てきた。国籍を聞かれ、日本だと答えると、街を聞かれ、横浜だと答えると「日本人は友達だから特別に入れてあげよう」と中に入れてくれた。掃除のおじさんが灯りを点けてくれ、三輪車の運ちゃんと一緒に歩いていた中国人二人と一緒に中に入る。中には澄江で見つかった貴重な化石が分かりやすく展示されていた。見応えもあったが、それより、日本人は友達だと言って館内にいれてくれたことの方に感激した。電気をつけてくれた掃除のおじさんにお礼を言うと「お礼は彼に言え」とのこと。中に入れてくれた「日本人は友達」と言ってくれたおじさんはこの博物館の責任者だったようだ。思わぬ人情に触れて澄江の街に戻る。 See more..

This park is 15 or 20 kilometers out of Luliang 陆良, but is easily reachable by bus. The bus leaves from the center of town, across from the market, and costs only 4 Yuan. The ride takes about 40 minutes and passes through several interesting small villages. The park features some bizarre sand sculptures that have been painted and are pretty tacky. But the paths winding around inside the park provide beautiful vistas of the colored cliffs, set back in a largely pine forest. The path is well maintained and takes you to some peaks as well as to some valleys. The natural beauty of the place is well worth the trouble of coming. Admission costs 50 Yuan. It's better to come in the early morning when it's not so hot. I was there earlier this week in the afternoon and the sun was very bright. Spent about 2 hours walking around and taking photographs. Quite a few steep stairs, which might be of concern to those of you with bad knees. See more..

In May 2014, I attempted to trek from the village of Bingzhonglou in the upper Nujiang Valley over the Northern Gaoligong mountains into the remote Dulong Valley. The route was tough. My Lisu guide and I followed hunting trails through the dense primordial forest before breaking above the tree line and discovering two stunning glacial valleys at the foot of the mountains. Unfortunately the path over the large peaks was too treacherous so we crossed over into a parallel valley and discovered a vast rhododendron sanctuary - the likes of which I have never seen before - at the foot of Mt Kenyichunpo. Intrigued by this beautiful and hidden region I will be heading back in May 2015 with an expert botanist and small group to further explore the area. The Sword Peak Pond is a very nice little pond west of the central viewing pavilion half way to the ring road within the Geo Park. The place is marked on the sketch map coming with the ticket for the Stone Forest. It’s not as crowded as the main area of mass tourism thanks to the location being a little aside of the standard track. The cool and quiet atmosphere there is very special at late afternoon when shadows are getting longer; the water is very calm with clear reflections of the surrounding 30-40 m high rocky towers. Caohai has wild Cormorants, Ruddy Shelducks, Purple Swamp Hens, Common Coots, Mandarin Ducks as well as other types of waterfowl. They are worth seeing. There is no admission fee to see these birds. Bring your binoculars. Caohai Marshes are close to Xin Hua Handicraft (Silver, Bras and Copper made items) and Heqing Town. Heqing train station opened in January of 2012. It is between Dali and Lijiang. You could ask for a driver at Heqing Train or Bus station to take you to Caohai or Xin Hua Village. The cost shouldn't be more than 30-35 RMB oneway. You could then proceed to Xin Hua village from Cao Hai for a visit prior to returning to Heqing. It woiuld take about 20-30 minutes to walk from Caohai to XinHua Village. Buses and Taxis run from Xinhua Village to Heqing regularly until the evening. Caveat: few people in the area speak anything but Chinese so you would be as well to bring your dictionary if you don't speak Chinese. See more..
