4.5Old Town of Lijiang - China(5.097 reviews) - The best old town I visited to date Spent 2-3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Historic Walking Areas
I visited a few old towns in China, but this one has to be my favorite one to date. During my time in Lijiang, I didn't even bother going to the city because the old town was so much fun not to mention that the food was incredible. While morning are very quiet as shops open rather late, the evenings were far from boring. The bar street sure made for some nice evenings while the afternoons allowed me and my friend to visit more of Old Town while trying out different food (such as tofu ice cream (don't judge until you try it)), Chinese wraps and of course the flowers cake. As for dinner, the ribs hot pot is fantastic! I shouldn't forget to mention that the buildings are beautiful, and I strongly recommend you check the small alleys as you might be surprised by what you may see.See more..

4.5Yunnan Shaxi Ancient Town(291 reviews) - Perfect place for Chinese New Year Historic Sites • Historic Walking Areas • Scenic Walking Areas
We were here for Chinese New Year eve and the atmosphere was lovely, with lots of people on the streets setting off firecrackers, children playing and fireworks. I've been to many ancient towns in China, and this was one of my favourites. There are some really quaint bars, restaurants and souvenir shops, and lovely mountain views. Would recommend staying a night here, as the atmosphere in the evening is excellent. There are plenty of hotels/hostels inside the town. Entry is free. The village is located in between Lijiang and Dali. You may wish to combine with a trip to Shibaoshan (石宝山), just 14km away. Name in Chinese: 沙溪古镇See more..

4.0White Water River(92 reviews) - Nice and Blue with Help from People Bodies of Water • Historic Walking Areas
The river is in the Blue Moon Valley and is full of nice clear blue water. The rock underneath the river is white so hence the name. The area has quite a few man made features to help with glacier protection but we felt it was still worth the trip. There are lots of walkways and platforms to view the river. There is also a decent amount of vendors and clean washrooms. We had troubles getting here because the bus stations were not open when we went but our hotel helped us get a guide. The guide took us to a few scenic spots in the area.See more..

4.0Yufeng Temple(18 reviews) - Temple + 500 year old Camellia Thursday: 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Historic Walking Areas • Architectural Buildings • Religious Sites
The temple is one of the well known lamaseries among five in Lijiang. The highlight of Yufeng temple is a 500 year old Camellia in the Northern courtyard. This tree has an intricate pattern of twisted stems, and shows thousands of flowers. Tree lovers will also appreciate a rare species of a Yunnan Michaela Figo, that has a less respectable age of only 200 years.See more..
4.5Spruce Plateau (Yunshan Ping)(16 reviews) - Stunning view Thursday: 8:30 AM - 6:00 PM Historic Walking Areas • Forests
Best recommendation by our tour guide to see visit the spruce plateau instead of going up the glacier park at the jade dragon snow mountain. Unless you are part of a large tour group going up the glacier park is almost impossible. Our private guide recommended this trail and we got stunning views of the mountain top too. A nice and easy walk but bring along a can of oxygen - it does help with the breathing at this height. See more..
4.5Xuesong Village(12 reviews) - An Ancient Village Thursday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Historic Sites • Historic Walking Areas
What makes a picturesque village? This ancient village has all the potential, located at the foothills of Yulong Snow Mountain with narrow endless stone alleys. All the houses were made by Naxi people using unique stones with “Bird Wing Roofs”. Yuhe Lake is beside the village. We went to the Former Residence of Luo Ke and had the opportunity to enjoy the fresh air and this beautiful serene beauty. There are donkey rides and souvenir shops. One thing is the tour guide told us don’t buy anything from the villages, we all listened. Happy Travelling!See more..
5.0Wengding Wa Nationality Gregarious Village(8 reviews) - Historical village outside of Cangyuan, Yunnan province China Thursday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Historic Sites • Historic Walking Areas
What an adventure. Leaving Lincang we hired a car and driver for a four hour drive to Cangyuan. Our goal was to visit a Wai people village. You have to hire a car and driver to take you to the village which takes about 45 minutes. The village is authentic and about 250 Wai people live there. You can walk around the village and see how the farming community lives. The government has given incentative for the people to continue to live in the village and preserve their way of life. We were told that the village is about 600 years old. They do not speak English so be sure you have an English speaking tour guide. It is the first place I have been and seen women who have blacken their teeth. We elected to take the local bus back to Lincang. When leaving any part of Southern Yunnan province you will be stopped for a random search of luggage. The government cracks down on smuggling in drugs. But it a great time to rest and buy bottle water.See more..
