  1. 4.0 Erhai Lake (552 reviews)
    - Cycling Fun
    Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Forests
    Erhai Lake image
Rent a bike and tour as far as you wish along the edge of Erhai Lake. Don’t hesitate to ring your bell when passing near tour groups - they far appreciate the sound over mistakenly backing into your path as you travel by. We visited during a busy day and started where I suppose most people begin their journey (the wharf just 5km from Dali ancient city) and still we were able to go for long stretches without having to share the path and views. A word of caution - two of our bikes broke down en route, make sure you have the contact # of the rental company and they can come and help get you rolling again. Even the newest looking “Forever” or “Merida” brand could disintegrate under modest use, especially if the bike has been poorly assembled. See more..

    - Beautiful tiered waterfalls
Friday: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM Bodies of Water • Mountains • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Forests • Waterfalls
    Jiulong Waterfalls image
As I visited during the low peak season, getting there was challenging, as there wasn’t any direct public bus. I ended up taking 2 public buses plus a short private car ride to the top entrance. Entrance fee is 95rmb. I spent about 3 hours leisurely walking downhill to the bottom exit. By the way, both top and bottom serves as entrances as well as exits. As there was only 1 trail, exploring the area was easy. The tiered waterfalls were picturesque and beautiful, with many photography spots. Suggest to take the bamboo raft (10rmb per pax) which brings visitors closer to the waterfall for better view and photo shoots. Restrooms were located along the trail. Overall, highly recommended to visit. See more..

Haba Snow Mountain is a junior snow mountain in China. The scenery is very good and it is worth visiting. Difficulty index: 6 stars, very suitable for beginner snow mountain lovers.I asked a guide 2300RMB for 3 days (including 3 days of accommodation, 3 days of food, 2 days of guide fees and 2 days of equipment costs), the guide is very good. 7. 4.0 Xishuangbanna Rainforest (26 reviews)
    - Ewok Village in China :)
    Forests
    Xishuangbanna Rainforest image
This park is about an hour south of Xishuangbanna. We were able to hire a driver for 200RMB to take us their and back. At the park they have tour guides to tell you about what you will see (30RMB), however, you will need a translator to understand them (you have to bring your own). The entrance fee for the park is 160RMB for adults and 80 RMB for kids. The trail itself is a nice walk. The forest is beautiful, the living situations are interesting, the walk in the trees is fun (free), the variety show in the middle is entertaining, and the huge swing was thrilling (20RMB). There is plenty to do without the translator, but if you can have a translator it would a lot more interesting. This was one of the most fun days on our trip to Banna. We got some great pictures and had fun as a family. See more..

  9. 4.5 Spruce Plateau (Yunshan Ping) (16 reviews)
    - Stunning view

    Spruce Plateau (Yunshan Ping) image
Best recommendation by our tour guide to see visit the spruce plateau instead of going up the glacier park at the jade dragon snow mountain. Unless you are part of a large tour group going up the glacier park is almost impossible. Our private guide recommended this trail and we got stunning views of the mountain top too. A nice and easy walk but bring along a can of oxygen - it does help with the breathing at this height. See more..
  10. 4.0 Tropical Rain Forest, Moli (13 reviews)
    - Good way to spend an afternoon
    Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Forests
    Tropical Rain Forest, Moli image
Went there after the despair that the border 'attractions' delivered, pleasantly surprized, lot of magnificent tropical trees in a valley ending up in a nice waterfall. For those with a botanical edge there is a lot to see beyond the planted alley. Huge liana, ferns, mosses, giant trees, and lot of orchids in the trees. Basically a very rich natural environment nicely converted for tourisms, allowing an easy path into the natural local forest. Also includes a Budhist small temple at the beginning of the path. Main issue is taxi cost to go there, as they refuse to use meter and want exorbitant price for travel, but that's true for all Ruili unfortunately. Entrance 50 RMB/per. See more..

    Bubang Wangtianshu Air Corridor image
We took more than one and half an hour to drive from Anantara resort hotel in Menglun to skytree rainforest in Mengla. On the way to skytree Mengla, we drove to a small village called Mandan. It is worth to visit the small village as well as hike in skytree rainforest. The air corridor is so high almost 20 meters height and the skytree average 70-80 meters. When you walk on this corridor, you find the nature is so close to your heart. You can even smell the tropical air everywhere and help you get rid of city's noise. See more..
  13. 4.5 Jiaozi Snow Mountain (9 reviews)
    - Treasure of Kunming.
    Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Mountains • Forests
    Jiaozi Snow Mountain image
The Jiaozi mountain is an absolute beautiful. Drove from Kunming city centre. Takes about 2-3 hours. You drive up to a certain point 3000m, then you take the first shuttle bus to the main centre of the mountain to purchase tickets. Prices are a bit steep but discounts are available for students. Then you take another shuttle bus to a base point at about 3500m, There you have an option to start walking up or take a cable car ride. The cable car ride when we went was very crowded, so we decided to start walking up. The walk up is beautiful but dangerous (i.e. no proper railings on the stairs etc). Make sure you have proper hiking shoes. Once you reach the next base point, there are around 4-5 spots you can visit. The furthest and highest one is the Sedan Chair. The place is mostly filled with local chinese tourist. Not much foreign visitors. See more..

Yunnan Golden Monkey National Park (滇金丝猴国家公园) Arrived at the Yunnan golden monkey natural reserve around 9am. We then took a little buggy up the road, then trekked for thirty minutes up the mountain. We saw a troop snubbed nose monkeys, I would say around thirty of them, watched them for a good ninety minutes (most were eating lichen, some teenagers were playing about) until we headed down the mountain for a well deserved cup of tea! We went with friends in 3 MPVs. Narrow roads only one car can pass for each direction. Once there was a slight landslide, we were stranded for about an hour, waiting for the people to clear the road. Its norm for them. Suitable for adventurous people. We enjoyed the Nu ethnic & Lisu ethnic 手捉饭 We enjoyed the view along the Nu River. If have more time, go up to Dulong River - it's even nicer, remote & more peaceful. The river was so raw..... 16. 4.0 Qianshi Mountain (5 reviews)
    - Mystical place
    Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Mountains • Forests
    Qianshi Mountain image
Our guide recommended the trip to Qianshi Mountain and we have really enjoyed it. Its not overrun at all. There are obviously hundreds of steps to climb but its worthwhile to see the hundereds of stone lions that got carved there into the walls. The beautiful landscape gives this place a special atmosphere. The climb to the lion king is worthwhile since the outlook is nice but obviously the lion has been created only 20 years ago. We did not got to the tower on top of the hill since our guide advised its not worthwhile. We left in the morning at 9am in Lijang and came back around 3pm. See more..

    Dashanbao Grusnigricollis Natural Reserve image
We were taken into this natural reserve from Ludian where we were staying, a 2hr drive. I think in time the tourist centre will be quite smart, but at the moment there is an unfinished air about it. This did not detract from the scenery at the viewpoints which were quite the most spectacular that I have seen anywhere in the world. We were taken to one of he viewing points on horseback for 20 Yuan each, an inexpensive way to add to the enjoyment of he area. On the day we visited, the viewing points were above the clouds and the distant scenery, far below us, drifted in and out of view lending the place a quite mystical feel. There were a few other tourists but the site was far from being crowded though I suspect as tourism and access is developed in the area it may become crowded. It was (in both senses) the highpoint of our trip. See more..

    Mt. Zhongling Forest Park image
This amazing place is about a 90 minute drive southeast of Kunming. There are limestone columns that rise from the earth and it is like walking through a vast, roofless cavern. The limestone has been eroded into interesting shapes and figures. It is large and filled with visitors but our guide (Murphy) showed us some areas that were not crowded. Many of the local guides were Yi people wearing very colorful native dress. The spider is one of their special symbols. We climbed to the top of the Pagoda to get a panoramic view. See more..

    - Ok to visit if you have enough time!

    Guangnan Babao image
There are not many old houses, and everything is under construction (very dusty). But, what I liked is that Babao is not a commercial village, and you still can see the peasants planting rice, grandmas carrying their nephews on their backs and grandpas smoking their cigarets. The locals are also friendly and curios... we got invited in their home for a cup of tea. At first I was a bit disappointed about how it looks with all those new buildings but hey! this is the New China! Everything under construction! I would recommend this place only to travelers that have plenty of time - if you're on a short trip to Yunnan then better try to visit some other places. See more..

    - Nature, culture, and luxury

Laiyang River National Forest Park image
The seven of us from the United States visited the Sun River National Park in Pu’er, China. The park used to be called Laiyang River National Forest Park. We stayed in the park for two nights. The experience is very pleasant and memorable. The highlights are the two as follows: The Little Panda Manor - we stayed at “hexagon glass villa” situated in the woods with panoramic view from every angle. The villa itself is spacious and properly furnished with nothing but local materials. You don’t need to close the curtains for privacy, as each villa is surrounded by trees. Waking up by the gentle sunlight hearing birds singing and trees shivering was the most refreshing experience. Soaking in the tub bathing while enjoying the scent of woods and fresh air relaxed all the travel fatigue. We thought the Manor alone was worth the trip! Park tour with the naturalist - we had a half day tour accompanied by a very knowledgeable naturalist named A-Fu, who knows the park and the animals made the park their home intimately. Not only did he showed us the animals, plants, incests, and birds, told us the history of the park, he even “called” gibbobe, lories, little panda, owls, etc. over for us. He took the animals as his family members, called many by their nicknames. With his gentle “talk” to a female rhino, some of us even had rare experience to “pat” the huge animal! At the end of the day, the park staff consisted of quite a few different minorities performed a lovely show for us (they do it on daily base). It was wonderful to see the young park employees showcase their talents. The singing and dancing were very nice. The park is a fabulous place to go, for nature, for culture, with the ingenious Little Panda Manor, for luxury too. See more..
